Answer: Movement becomes slower

Rain-storms were one of the first features added to "Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13". They are very well-done visually, and the most noticeable gameplay effect they cause is a serious decrease in vision range. During severe storms, it's possible that you'll only spot enemies when they're almost on top of you. A heavy storm will also have lightning, which may reveal enemies that aren't normally within sight-range. In addition, rain makes weapons less reliable (I.E. more prone to jamming), and will make it harder to regain lost breath (or "fatigue").

Movement speed is unaffected.

Answer: Burst-fire mode

Burst-fire causes the gun to fire a pre-set number of bullets. This feature existed in the original "Jagged Alliance 2". The 1.13 mod added auto-fire capability which allows shooting any number of bullets in rapid succession, although the shooter can sometimes overdo it by mistake (firing more bullets than intended).

Also, it now costs a number of AP's to raise a weapon for firing. Larger weapons, such as assault rifles, cost more APs to raise. Most pistols can be raised instantly without having to pay any cost, which makes them very useful for close-range encounters.

There are so many new weapons in "Jagged Alliance 2 1.13" that they can sometimes be very difficult to tell apart. It adds not only guns, but a plethora of grenade launchers, missile launchers, knives, and even blunt weapons.

The M-21 is a sniper rifle based on the M-14 (used in the Korean War). It can even be modified with a modernized stock, which allows attaching all sorts of cool add-ons to the weapon, and in this form it is generally considered one of the best semi-automatic sniper rifles in the game.

Answer: PSO-3

The Russian PSO-3 has 8x magnification and fits on most Russian sniper rifles like the SVD Dragunov and its many variants. It is a good scope, slightly better than the western-made "Battle Scope" with its 7x magnification. The best scope in the game is the 10x Sniper Scope, but that can only be fitted on western sniper rifles.

"Jagged Alliance 2" v1.13 offers a very large number of weapon attachments, not just scopes. In fact, it offers a large selection of EVERY kind of item, from armor to camouflage kits to night vision equipment. The total number of items in v1.13 to date is just over 1000 different items of all kinds.

Answer: They allow targetting specific bodyparts

Scopes are very powerful in "Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13". A skilled sniper with a good rifle and a good scope can shoot the head off a far-away enemy rather easily. Scopes can also be used as binoculars, to spot enemies well beyond sight range, something which was not possible in the original game. However, scopes only work if the enemy is sufficiently far away. They also cause a tunnel-vision effect, so you won't be able to spot enemies sneaking up on your flanks!

Scopes do not allow targeting bodyparts - you can do that even without a scope! However, the accuracy bonuses they bestow can help greatly in shooting specific bodyparts (Head or Legs), which are always harder to hit than the torso.

Roaming Militia are recruited by you (the player) and can patrol the countryside on your behalf. They will fight enemies on their own, which will make defending your liberated cities much easier - assuming you can afford their training! Roaming Militia are very expensive to train - three times as much as regular militia training.

However, you can also turn on a setting that generates them automatically every day, free of charge.

Answer: A bag or item of clothing that has pockets for extra equipment

LBE stands for "Load-Bearing Equipment". It comes in the form of vests, thigh packs, combat packs or backpacks. When worn, an LBE will increase the size of your inventory, allowing your mercenary to carry more equipment. LBEs are very diverse, and each specific type will allow different equipment to be carried. All of this is part of "Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13"'s New Inventory system, which completely changes the way that your inventory works.

Answer: Drassen Mine sector

The Drassen Counterattack was one of the first features added to v1.13. If enabled, once the entire town of Drassen has been liberated, a force of several dozen enemy soldiers will assault the Drassen Mine in a concentrated attack. Since Drassen is usually captured in the very early stages of the game, this can be a VERY difficult battle to win! It makes use of 1.13's reinforcements feature, which allows enemies (and militia!) to join a battle from several different directions, and constantly flood in to the battle. New versions of v1.13 promise to add counterattacks against other cities as well. Of course, like every other feature in this mod, it can easily be turned off if you do not want to face such a difficult fight.

"Sirtech", the company that produced the original "Jagged Alliance 2", has gone defunct many years ago. The copyrights were sold to "Strategy First", but that company RELEASED THE SOURCE CODE to the general public, so work on v1.13 is completely legal and is under their explicit permission. The people who program this mod all work for free and the download of v1.13 is also free of charge.

However, to install "Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13", you will still need to own a copy of the original "Jagged Alliance 2". Fortunately, the game is STILL BEING SOLD, 11 years after it was first made! How's that for a cult following?

Answer: The White Hats

These were the guys responsible for reviving the game - they not only translated the game into a more modern programming language, but also set up the entire infrastructure that makes 1.13 so accessible to new programmers. "Coders" for "Jagged Alliance 2" v1.13 have come and gone, but the legacy of the White Hats lives on.
