This crafting is one of the first every player puts together to light up the night and keep the Creepers at bay. It requires one coal and one stick, each crafting attempt creating four torches. Coal is located by examining rocky areas. It will appear in the stone block as black chunks. It must be mined with a pickaxe.

A Creeper is a green "creeping" thing that silently approaches you and detonates itself.

2. Speaking of a pickaxe, your bonus box contained a wooden one that wasn't very durable. You know some mining is in your near future as you build shelter so you upgrade your pickaxe as best you can. You know you'll need two sticks and three of what to make a slightly upgraded tool?

Upgrading that wooden pickaxe you started with would next be a stone tool. You'll need two sticks and three cobblestone (the most basic of mined material) to put together an upgrade. Upgrading tools and weapons is a constant thing as they wear out items and your game progress allowing for better materials...wood to stone to iron to gold to diamonds.

3. Rest is essential in "Minecraft" if you are hoping to speed through the night without attack. You created a sword earlier and hunted enough sheep to build a cozy bed. You know you'll need wood planks and three pieces of what to successfully sleep?

Answer: wool

First beds were always bear a red blanket and are easily packed if you were planning to roam. Creating a bed in a safe place and climbing into it as darkness falls fast forwards the game to daylight, decreasing the chances you'll be attacked by a myriad of "Minecraft" villains. Important early on, not as important as you get stronger and build more protections.

4. Food is a constant worry. Sure you can periodically locate apples in the trees or some bread stored by a villager, but farming or hunting will be necessary. My favorite meal is baked fish...mmmmhhh. To get fishing, I'm going to need more sticks and some string to make a rod, so it's time to go hunt a what?

Answer: spider

Spiders can kill you and only come out at night (unless you are in a mine/cave...and those guys are worse, they are venomous spiders). Killing a spider results in some of them dropping string or spider eyes. You will need two strings to combine with three sticks to create a fishing pole that will help feed you.

5. You just noticed a village on your map! These can be great resources for apples, gear and food, plus villages are a lot of fun to explore. Careful sleeping there though, villages are prime for attacks by what creatures?

Answer: zombie

Villages were originally pretty safe to stay in within the Mojang versions of "Minecraft". But once Microsoft acquired the game, villages were prone to zombie attacks. They were even able to beat down the door where you are staying and kill all the other villagers, turning them too into zombie villagers.

Villages usually have great gardens where you can collect food such as carrots, potatoes and melons.

6. Doing a little swimming, you happen upon a strange and wonderful place, a mushroom biome! A whole island covered in mushrooms of all sizes and shapes! Even luckier, its inhabited by a special variation of cow, the Mooshroom! You happen to have a bowl handy and are excited to eat what?

Answer: stew

Milking a mooshroom with a bowl will produce mushroom stew which will restore six bars of hunger. Possibly one of the easiest food sources as you don't have to cook or catch it, just milk a mooshroom with a bowl. Mooshroom can be led back to your settlement and bred for additional food sources.

7. After all your swimming and exploring, you've found a sweet spot and begin the creation of your permanent home. You're going to want to plant a garden, and that usually starts with wheat. What will you need to cut in order to acquire the wheat seeds you need to cultivate?

Answer: grass

Grass can be cut with the most basic of tools, I often just use a stick, collecting what falls with about a 50/50 chance of getting wheat seed. Taking the seed home cultivates it into wheat once you select a garden location and hoe it. Wheat is important for making bread and feeding animals.

8. Surviving in "Minecraft" is a bit easier if you prepare and protect yourself. Protecting yourself begins with a good weapon and armor. The lowest level of armor quality is crafted from what material?

Answer: leather

Leather is the lowest level of armor with a durability rating of 55 (as opposed to diamond armor with a durability of 363). It is randomly dropped by animals you kill and can be crafted with rabbit skin. Wearing armor of any kind helps protect you from attacks. A minecraft character can armor the head, chest, legs and feet.

9. Shelter, food, and defensive strategies help you survive in the "Minecraft" world. A wide variety of creatures in the night seek to kill you, but there are a few things you can do to defend yourself. Take for example, a skeleton. Befriending what creature will help you defend against skeleton attacks?

Answer: wolf

To befriend a wolf, you feed it bones in random amounts (some take more than others). A red collar will appear on a tamed wolf and it will follow you incessantly until you make it sit. A wolf will go after a skeleton and keep you safer from their attacks. Wolves do periodically need fed or healed from the job they do.

10. Oh no you've exploded again! A Creeper snuck up on you and this time, YOU LOST YOUR MAP! Hope isn't all lost, it's just a long process to gather the goods to create another map. You'll need paper, iron ingots and redstone for a map. What crop must you grow to create paper?

Answer: sugar cane

Losing your map in "Minecraft" means you don't want to stray too far from your shelter/home in search of villages or materials. It's about the worse thing that can happen, you die AND your new body may spawn far from safety. To create a map, you have to plant sugar cane and turn that into paper. Mine AND smelt iron into iron ingots (which requires a lot of mining with the proper pickaxe) and then use the iron and some redstone you also mined to create a compass which you combine with the paper to create a map. Yeah...don't lose that map.
