Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is NOT true of "Ms. Pac-Man"?

Answer: It was first released in the late 1970s

The maze arcade game was first released in the early 1980s (in 1982 in North America), not the late 1970s. It was the second in the "Pac-Man" series. Versions were made for the arcade and the Atari 2600 and eventually for the Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Commodore 64, and various other gaming platforms.
2. Unlike "Pac-Man," "Ms. Pac-Man" was not developed by Namco.

Answer: true

While "Pac-Man" was developed by Namco, "Ms. Pac-Man" was designed by Steve Golson, developed by General Computer Corporation (GCC), and published by Midway. GCC was formed in 1981 as an American video game company, though it later went on to make printers and other computer peripherals. However, the president of Namco, Masaya Nakamura, provided feedback on the character design.
3. "Ms. Pac-Man" was originally made as a modification kit for the original "Pac-Man". What was it titled at that time?

Answer: Crazy Otto

Midway, the previous North American distribution of "Pac-Man", persuaded GCC to use the game as a basis to create a sequel to the original "Pac-Man." A variety of names were tossed about for the new game, including "Miss Pac-Man" and "Mrs. Pac-Man".. "Pac-Woman" and "Super Pac-Man" were also considered.
4. What color is the maze in levels one and two of "Ms. Pac-Man"?

Answer: pink

Levels one and two use a pink maze, while levels three through five have a light blue maze. Then the color shifts to brown for levels six through nine, and finally dark blue for levels ten through 14. There are more levels after 14, and, at that point, the maze colors alternate after every four levels. This was in contrast to the original "Pac-Man," which simply had a blue maze.
5. Which of the following is NOT a way that "Ms. Pac-Man" differs from "Pac-Man"?

Answer: There are three ghosts instead of four

"Ms. Pac-Man" still has four ghosts like the original "Pac-Man," though one is renamed Sue instead of Clyde. "Ms. Pac-Man" has Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Sue. The first, second, and fourth mazes in "Ms. Pac-Man" have two sets of warp tunnels, whereas "Pac-Man" only had one, and the maze walls are solid. The ghosts also follow different behavioral patterns than they do in "Pac-Man."
6. In Ms. Pac-Man, fruits appear in the center of the maze and remain there until they are eaten.

Answer: false

While in "Pac-Man", the fruits appeared and remained in the center of the maze, in "Ms. Pac-Man", they bounce around. Extra points are earned by gobbling the fruits, between 100 and 5,000 points depending on what is eaten. Once all of the fruits have appeared in order and then been eaten, they occur at random throughout the rest of the game.
7. Which of these fruits is worth the MOST points when eaten?

Answer: Banana

The cherry is worth the least at 100 points. The banana is worth the most at 5,000 points. An orange is 500 and a strawberry is 200. There is also an apple for 1,000 and a pear for 2,000.
8. What is the only food item to appear in "Ms. Pac-Man" that is NOT a fruit?

Answer: Pretzel

The pretzel is the fourth food item to appear and is worth 700 points. The rest of the food items are all fruits. While the original Pac-Man folded in on itself when killed by a ghost, Ms. Pac-Man spins around before perishing.
9. What happens in the third intermissions of Ms. Pac-Man?

Answer: The stork drops off a baby for Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man

The original "Ms. Pac-Man" had three intermissions. The first, after round two, was "They Meet". Just before colliding, Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man move abruptly upwards, causing the ghosts they are leading - Inky and Pinky - to bump into each other and vanish.

Then the two Pac-Men face one another and a heart appears above them. In the second intermission, called "The Chase", the two Pac-Men chase each other across the maze. In the third intermission, called "Junior," a stork flies overhead with a blue bundle and drops it to reveal a baby Pac-Man.
10. "Ms. Pac-Man" was the second in the series of "Pac-Man" games. What was the fourth, which was released as a pinball game?

Answer: Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man

"Pac-Man Plus" was the third in the series to be released, on March 13, 1982, for the arcade. Also in 1982, "Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man" was released as a pinball game. Developed by Bally Midway, the game had some minor maze elements. Next, a hybrid pinball/video game called "Baby Pac-Man" was released. "Professor Pac-Man" came out in 1983 and was designed for the arcade. "Pac-Mania" was released in 1987. "Pac-Man Battle Royale" was released for the arcade in 2011.
