Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Double-F game would fall into the role-playing game category, generally?

Answer: Final Fantasy

While "Fatal Fury" and "Final Fight" are beat-'em-up/fighter-style games and "Fatal Frame" is a horror title, "Final Fantasy" is one of the largest RPG series in the gaming sphere having started on the NES console back in 1987. Developed by Square (and eventually Square-Enix), the series has spanned most consoles and has branched off into tactical games, racing games, shooters, and puzzle titles.

The games in the series have influenced Japanese-style RPGs for decades, sinking into the groundwater for nearly all future releases in some way.
2. Developed by Harmonix, what five-letter 2020 rhythm game allowed players to mix music on a virtual stage?

Answer: Fuser

Only a few years earlier, Harmonix, known for "Rock Band", released a card-based music game alongside Hasbro. Known as "DropMix", the application allowed players to utilize different elements of songs to create their own mixes in different game modes. "Fuser" was a console/PC-based successor, allowing players to do much of the same with countless tracks, effects, and instruments.

The game also allowed players to mix cooperatively on online freestyle stages to make new creative tracks.
3. Lionhead Studios, founded by Peter Molyneux, continued the releases of what series of games which started on the original Xbox console?

Answer: Fable

Lionhead was also known for "Black & White", but their biggest success came from the "Fable" series which saw several releases on Xbox consoles and PC throughout the 2000s and 2010s. A set of American RPGs hosted in a fantasy world, "Fable" was perhaps most known for its alignment system with which players could shape the game world by being good or evil while completing quests and interacting with NPCs. Lionhead Studios went defunct in 2016 and ownership of the series was kept by Microsoft.
4. First appearing in "Donkey Kong Country", what member of the Kong family has sold flights, amassed an arsenal, and become a playable character?

Answer: Funky

Funky Kong was originally introduced as a waymarker for players in the early "Donkey Kong Country" games, acting as a way to navigate through different worlds on K. Rool's island and beyond. In the first and second games, that involves a plane, but by "Dixie's Double Trouble", he makes his way into boat rentals. "Donkey Kong 64" introduced Funky's weapon shop while "Tropical Freeze", further down the line, brought him back as a playable character for the Switch port. Nonetheless, he's one of the longest-lasting Kongs, debuting in 1994 and even appearing in the "Donkey Kong Country" animated TV series.
5. What tournament-standard map from the "Super Smash Bros." series is also the stage in which you normally face off against Master Hand?

Answer: Final Destination

Final Destination is commonly regarded, in competitive spheres, to be one of the ultimate stages for play since it's unaffected by platforms and obstacles. Originally, it was the final stage in the 1-Player storyline for N64's "Super Smash Bros.". It's a common fixture in every subsequent game in the series both as a stage for the final boss and as an accessible multiplayer stage.

This being said, the background of the stage changes from game to game. In "Ultimate", different variations of the stage (beyond the basic form) come with soft platforms.
6. "Ultimate Knockout" was the subtitle for what 2020 mini-game title which gained popularity in the COVID-19 pandemic?

Answer: Fall Guys

"Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout" released as a sixty-person battle royale game featuring a series of mainstay mini-games (a la "Mario Party") that would knock people out round after round until a winner was crowned. Although some of these games involved racing to a finish line, others involved matching/concentration puzzles, some required dexterity, and some featured sporting events.

The game became popular in Summer 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and promised new seasons of content every few months, refreshing ongoing content.
7. As per the popular horror title, how many nights are spent at Freddy's?

Answer: Five

"Five Nights at Freddy's" is a unique indie horror title in that it blew up in popularity since its 2014 release off the back of its premise and gameplay which force players to act as surveillance in a closed location containing homicidal animatronics.

The series was immensely popular with a younger audience, especially when streamed on Twitch, and it managed to score a book series and merchandise deals as the "FNaF" empire grew. Later games in the series also made their way to mobile devices and utilized augmented reality to heighten the scare factor.
8. Which game series had iterations subtitled "New Vegas" and "76"?

Answer: Fallout

Created by Interplay and published by "Elder Scrolls" developers Bethesda Interactive, "Fallout" was a futuristic RPG that put players into the role of a survivor following a nuclear apocalypse. Games in the series often set themselves in the remnants of America, pitting the player against mutated foes, ravenous fellow survivors, robotic nightmares, and the ever-present effects of radiation.

While "Fallout 3" was set around the Capital Wasteland (formerly Washington D.C.) and "Fallout 4" was set around what was once Boston, players also completed quests in "New Vegas" and, in the MMORPG environment of "Fallout 76", West Virginia.
9. What console, somewhat of a predecessor to the NES, utilized proprietary floppy discs to store game content?

Answer: Famicom

Released solely in Japan in 1986, the Famicom was a peripheral used for some of what would become Nintendo's biggest early video games (including "Super Mario Bros. 2" and "The Legend of Zelda"). Using floppy discs for storage, the device never really stayed around all too long; it was discontinued in 1990 and Nintendo plodded along with the Super Nintendo (SNES), staying the course with cartridges until the Gamecube was released.
10. "Show me your moves!" What captain from the "F-Zero" series is known for his kicks and punches when he's not racing?

Answer: Falcon

The face of the "F-Zero" series, Captain Falcon wears blue and brings his winning attitude on the racetrack and the "Super Smash Bros." battlefield. A bounty hunter from Mute City, Falcon drives the Blue Falcon and appears in all "F-Zero" titles (however few) as a starting character.

In "Super Smash Bros.", he debuted in the original N64 game and returned for subsequent versions with his devastating 'FALCON PUNCH!', which has since become a bit of a meme.
