Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is Kazooie's partner?

Answer: Banjo

Banjo the Bear first appeared in the Nintendo 64 game "Diddy Kong Racing" as one of ten playable racers. His big break was in the spin-off "Banjo-Kazooie", created by Rare. This game became a big platforming hit resulting in a number of sequels, the first of which was "Banjo-Tooie" on the N64.

After Rare was acquired by Microsoft at the dawning of the Xbox 360 in 2005, the "Banjo" series moved onwards with "Nuts and Bolts". Banjo's partner in crime throughout these games is Kazooie, a red breegull with a quick mouth.
2. In "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", Link can use these moving bombs to hit distant targets or go bowling. What is their name?

Answer: Bombchus

Link can start using Bombchus quite early on in the game though for the most part, he'll use bombs shortly after receiving the Goron Bracelet and receiving a Bomb Bag at Dodongo's Cavern. Bombchus are mainly used in the Bombchu Bowling Alley in Hyrule Castle Town (when Link is a child). Playing this interesting game and winning will result in a victory Piece of Heart or Purple Rupee or Bomb Bag or Bombchus. Bombchus are only required at one point in the game-- to blow up a rock in the Spirit Temple. Bombchus make a reappearance in "Majora's Mask".
3. A 2K Games release, what game set in the city of Rapture contains themes from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged"?

Answer: BioShock

"BioShock" was a first-person shooter title set underwater in the steampunk city of Rapture. You played Jack Ryan, a man with a mysterious past setting out to save himself in Rapture under a plane crash. He soon discovers that Rapture is a much deadlier place than envisioned, and with unique powers known as plasmids, angry Slicers, and large Big Daddy enemies, things get pretty difficult to manage.

A sequel was made in 2010, three years after "BioShock" was released to critical acclaim. Another entry in the series, "BioShock Infinite", would be set in the sky in a location known as Columbia.
4. Which of these developers is responsible for the creation of "Diablo II" and "World of Warcraft" (among other games)?

Answer: Blizzard

Blizzard is not only responsible for the MMORPG "World of Warcraft", known for its huge player-base and sprawling online world; it's also the company which made the "Diablo" and "Starcraft" series, both of which have spread to become some of the most famous PC games ever made. In 2008, Blizzard merged with Activision, the creators of the "Call of Duty" series, in one of the largest gaming mergers of all time.
Blizzard Entertainment is responsible for the Battle.net system which revolutionized online gaming servers upon its launch in 1996.
5. Which of these is the home planet of Blob from "A Boy and His Blob"?

Answer: Blobolonia

"A Boy and His Blob" was first conceived as an NES platforming title in 1989. Subtitled "Trouble on Blobolonia", the game featured the player character (the boy) controlling his blobby buddy by feeding him jellybeans. A Wii version was created in 2009 and was published by Majesco.

It was quite well-received by viewers who appreciated its charm and puzzling levels. This new version was developed by WayForward Technologies, a California company responsible for WiiWare's "Lit".
6. What Mario enemy takes the form of a laughing ghost?

Answer: Boo

Boos are sneaky creatures found in most "Mario" series games. First appearing in games on the NES, these ghoulish enemies will chase after Mario when his back is turned and freeze when he faces them. Because Boos are already dead, many earlier games offer no method of destroying them (except Starman, of course).

In later games (eg. "Mario Tennis", "Mario Party" games, "Mario Kart" games, etc.) Boo becomes a playable character. In others, "Luigi's Mansion", for example, they become prominent hindrances.

The Boos are led by a singular King Boo, of course.
7. Created by Platinum Games for the Xbox 360 and PS3, what 2010 game named after its title character featured the 'Witch Time' mechanic?

Answer: Bayonetta

"Bayonetta" became well-received by players and those in the industry alike with other development companies praising Platinum Games' work on the title. Platinum Games, who previously created "MadWorld" for the Wii and derived from Clover Studio (known for "Okami"), became a force to be reckoned with. "Bayonetta's" title character is a witch with the ability to use weapons, including guns, to defeat her otherwise mystical foes. Using 'Witch Time', Bayonetta can slow down time in order to defeat her enemies by bringing them to a near-halt.

Many reviewers compared it to "Devil May Cry" and "Ninja Gaiden" amongst other hack-and-slash games.
8. "Yawaraka Atama Juku", a 2005 Japanese DS game, was ported to international gamers in 2006 under which name?

Answer: Big Brain Academy

Part of a series of puzzle and brain games for the Nintendo DS under the Touch! Generations logo, "Big Brain Academy" sold over five million copies in three years becoming one of the most famous DS games ever released. A major game for mature players, it was one of many to open the doors of video gaming to a non-children audience.

In 2007, "Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree" was released on the Wii, selling over two million more copies for the series. Both games were developed exclusively by Nintendo EAD.
9. Which of the following terms is seen in the "Final Fantasy" series?

Answer: Bahamut

Although the Bahamut is a creature from Middle Eastern myth, its appearance in the "Final Fantasy" series is relatively well-known, particularly as a summon and occasional enemy in the games. When Bahamut is a summon (in "Final Fantasy VIII" and "Final Fantasy IX", for example), he's one of the last to be found and one of the most powerful.

In 1996, "Final Fantasy" developers, Square, created "Bahamut Lagoon", a game for the Super Famicom released only in Japan. "Bit.Trip" is a series of stylized games for different systems (online particularly, like XBLA), BFG is a famous gun from "Doom", and "Baldur's Gate" is a role-playing game series for PC and Xbox a la "Dungeons and Dragons".
10. Created by Gearbox Software, what 2009 first-person shooter and RPG received critical acclaim and was set on the planet of Pandora?

Answer: Borderlands

Released to a fair bit of fanfare, "Borderlands" became one of the most important new IPs of 2009 appealing to both FPS players and RPG players. You take on the role of one of four types of characters (eg. Sharpshooter, Explosives Expert, etc.) and strive to unlock the mysteries of the Eridian Vault. The game received a great amount of critical praise and sold many copies resulting in a 'Game of the Year' edition.

A sequel was greenlit shortly thereafter and wouldn't be released until 2012. The original was released on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC and spawned several popular DLC installments.
