Available as a map item and a level item, obtaining this powerup will allow you to run through your enemies without receiving damage. Also, who can forget the catchy music played when you get a starman? Almost makes you not want to lose it, huh? A weird thing I found about this was that if you are Super Mario or bigger, when you have a star and jump, you perform flips. Very entertaining.

Answer: It puts all the Hammer Bros. levels on the map to sleep for a number of turns

Upon being used, all of the Hammerhead Bros. levels (you probably know them as "those annoying camel guys") will go to sleep for a limited amount of turns. This way you can walk through them without having to face them in battle. Very useful when you're tiny and don't want to risk losing another life.

From time to time you will come across stones behind which are mini games or actually paths to more levels. The Hammer Bros. Hammer comes in great use, especially when you're short on a powerup item and there's a mushroom house on the other side of the stone. Unfortunately, though, there are only very few Hammer Bros. Hammers in the whole game, so you need to use them wisely.

Answer: Anchor

Anchor! Pretty easy, I guess you didn't even have to have ever played the game to get that. Just testing you, though! The only two ways to get an anchor are (1) collecting all the coins on a white airship (or, "coin ship"), and (2) obtaining them in an uncovered white mushroom house on any of the evenly-numbered worlds. If you don't have one, you'll find yourself chasing after the airship every time you don't beat it. Yes, that gets quite annoying.

Answer: Goomba's Shoe

Actually, I've also heard this called "Kuribo's Shoe", which is derived from the Japanese name for "Goomba". I know, I was surprised too, I'd always called it a boot. I wasn't trying to stump you or anything, I just figured one way or another you should learn that it's called Goomba's Shoe, not Boot.

But if you did get this one right, nice job; you're better at this stuff than I am, obviously.

Answer: Tanooki Suit

Though it hardly ever comes in handy, it's still fun to press down and B just to see the cute little Mario turn into a statue. I don't know, that's probably just me. Wondering what a Tanooki is? Me too. I looked it up and apparently it's derived from a beast in Japanese mythology called a tanuki. Contradicting stories believe it is either a raccoon or a badger or a type of dog; whichever it really is, it's still fun to play around with on the game!

Answer: Frog Suit

Yes, oddly enough, a Frog Suit greatly enhances your swimming abilities. It also allows you to swim against the water's current, allowing you to reach secret pipes that would be otherwise inaccessible. However, you will find it much harder to maneuver yourself around on land.

Answer: Magic Whistle

If you are in Worlds 1-6, you will only be able to transport to Worlds 5-7. However, if you are in World 7, you will be able to transport to World 8. And, coincidentally, the music the Magic Whistle plays is exactly the same as the music the whistle plays on another classic Shigeru Miyamoto game, 'The Legend of Zelda'.

Answer: Lakitu's Cloud

Yes, I use this a lot when I'm frustrated and just can't complete a level. It's almost embarrassing to use it, but hey, at least you get that level out of the way. However, if you fail to beat the next level, you'll go back and have to do the level you just skipped, so you basically just wasted your Cloud. So use it wisely. Oh, and another interesting bit is that Jugem is the Japanese adaptation of Lakitu, or, rather, Lakitu is the US's adaptation of Jugem. Just thought that was a bit interesting.

I figured if I called the power meter a P-Meter it would be too easy. But yes, the P in P-Wing stands for Power, and appropriately, too. These really come in handy on those annoying tank levels on the 8th world; just a little hint for you there.
