Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What do you inherit from your grandfather at the beginning of Stardew Valley?

Answer: A run-down farm

'Stardew Valley' begins when you inherit your grandfather's overgrown farm, escaping a draining corporate job for a simpler life. Your task is to restore the land by clearing weeds, growing crops, and raising animals.

The game is a sandbox game with role-playing (RPG) elements allowing you to choose your own path, whether it's farming, mining, fishing, foraging, questing, slaying monsters or building relationships with the town's residents. With no linear story, you are free to progress at your own pace and design your farm and life as you see fit. This freedom and creativity are what make the game appealing to a wide range of players.
2. Which of the following crops can only be grown in the Fall if growing outdoors and not in a greenhouse?

Answer: Pumpkin

'Stardew Valley' is primarily a farming simulation game with the core gameplay centered around planting, growing, and harvesting crops which you can sell to earn gold. You can spend your hard-earned gold on upgrades to your farm or equipment and items/resources found in various types of unique shops and vendors located all across Stardew Valley. Select recipes can also be purchased which unlock blueprints for crafting items.

Your Farming skill levels up from 1 to 10 by performing tasks like harvesting crops and caring for animals. With each level, you unlock valuable crafting recipes, such as sprinklers and quality fertilizers, that significantly improve your farm's efficiency and yield. At levels 5 and 10, you select a permanent specialization that either increases the value of all crops or all animal products. This progression system allows you to tailor your farming style for maximum profitability.

In Stardew Valley, diverse crops like vegetables, fruits, and flowers are specific to the Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall seasons, each lasting 28 in-game days with each day lasting fourteen minutes real time. Crops require daily watering, which can be automated with sprinklers or helped by rainy weather, and their growth speed can be boosted with fertilizer. Each crop has its own growth cycle, ranging from four days (ex: cauliflower) to the whole season (Ancient fruit). Some crops, like corn, can grow across multiple seasons, while others, like strawberries, parsnips and pumpkins are limited to one.

The only way to grow any crop year-round is by unlocking the greenhouse, which removes all seasonal restrictions.
3. What is the name of the town where you interact with many of its citizens?

Answer: Pelican Town

Pelican Town is located in the center of Stardew Valley and functions as the hub where you'll find most of the villagers, shops, and community buildings. Additionally, it serves as the setting for many of the festivals in the game in which you can choose to participate in.

Locations in Pelican Town include Pierre's General Store, Harvey's Clinic, Stardrop Saloon, Mayor Lewis house, Clint's Blacksmith shop, The Museum & Library, The Community Center, Joja Mart and various other dwellings.

The town is accessible by going in an easterly direction starting from your farm after you side-scroll through two screens.

The incorrect options listed refer to names of other games or cities found in games that have farming or other similar style gameplay to 'Stardew Valley'.
4. How do you travel to the tropical locale of Ginger Island?

Answer: Willy's Boat

Ginger Island serves as the first major expansion to 'Stardew Valley' released in update 1.5 in 2020 and it features lots of rich content including Volcano Dungeon, Leo's hut, the Dig Site and other end-game activities and locations for the player to explore.

To gain access to this illustrious island, you must repair Willy's Boat which requires 200 hardwood, 5 battery packs, 5 iridium bars. In order to unlock the Willy's Boat quest, the player must either depending on the path they choose, fully complete the Community Center or fund a series of Joja Development projects.

If you are sensing a resource gathering theme, then you would be describing another fundamental aspect of 'Stardew Valley' in which the majority of the game is built around. Gathering objects either through chopping trees, fishing, mining ores, slaying enemies, farming or foraging are the main ways to collect the resources you need to progress through storylines or quests you choose to pursue.

None of the other options are transport methods present in 'Stardew Valley'.
5. Which is these is not the name of a festival in 'Stardew Valley'?

Answer: Oktoberfest

These festivals offer unique activities, rewards, friendship opportunities, and special items that can only be obtained during these events, although not mandatory to attend these events, it is strongly encouraged to check out these special social events. Generally, each season in 'Stardew Valley' traditionally has two festivals. With the 1.6 update of 'Stardew Valley', three new events and seasonal festivals were added to the game.

Depending on which festival you participate in, activities include dancing with a prospective mate, competing in an ice fishing contest or adding your finest quality ingredient to a communal soup in order to impress the visiting Governor.

There are two Fall festivals: Stardew Valley Fair and Spirit's Eve, but no Oktoberfest featured in the game.
6. What item do you need to enter the dangerous Skull Cavern in the desert?

Answer: Skull Key

You obtain the Skull Key by reaching the bottom floor 120 in the Mines which are located in the northeastern section of Stardew Valley. The Mines serve as the introductory combat training dungeon with easier mobs and enemies to kill here in addition to containing ores which are required for upgrading your tools and equipment. Skull Cavern is located in the northwest part of Calico Desert and access to the desert is unlocked after first repairing the Bus Stop in order to access the primary transport method to the desert.

The Skull Cavern is a high-difficulty dungeon filled with dangerous enemies like the Royal Serpent. While perilous, it is the primary source of valuable Iridium ore, which is essential for crafting the game's best tools and equipment. Unlike the standard mines, the cavern has no final floor, offering infinite exploration. Deep-diving this dungeon requires thorough preparation, including powerful weaponry, high healing food items, increased energy bar and bombs which come in handy when clearing floors.
7. What item must you give to a potential marriage candidate to propose?

Answer: Mermaid's Pendant

You can buy this from the Old Mariner on the Beach ONLY during rainy days after reaching ten hearts with your chosen partner and having 5,000 gold handy. This item functions as the engagement ring of 'Stardew Valley', a significant milestone that represents the ultimate commitment and highest relationship level you can obtain.

There are twelve potential partners you can marry, and you must first date a partner which is triggered by gifting a bouqet of flowers at eight heart levels. After tying the knot, your partner can move in with you but only after you have upgraded your house to accommodate more inhabitants. Additionally, you can even have children with your partner in 'Stardew Valley'. After marriage the relationship level increases by four to a maximum of fourteen heart levels.
8. Which of the following materials is not utilized to craft an upgraded version of your tools?

Answer: Radioactive Ore

The progression order for your tools from lowest tier to highest tier is 'Rusty'-->'Copper-->'Steel'-->'Gold'--> 'Iridium'. Tools are upgraded in order using these materials at the blacksmith, with each upgrade improving the tool's effectiveness and energy efficiency. Additionally your tools can be modified with enchantments to have additional useful perks. This process of enchantment was added in update 1.5 and can be performed at the Forge located in the Volcano Dungeon on floor 10.

Update 1.5 also introduced Radioactive Ore, a green material rarely found in nodes located in enhanced difficulty variants of the Mines and Skull Cavern respectively. Radioactive Ores are used in advanced crafting recipes such as the Heavy Tapper and Hopper after smelting the ores into their ingot or bar form.
9. Which of these is not a benefit of increasing your friendship level with each of the inhabitants of Stardew Valley?

Answer: Unlocking new emotes

In 'Stardew Valley', building friendships with villagers is a key element, tracked through a heart system that increases when you give gifts, engage in conversation, and complete quests. It's important to maintain these relationships, as neglect can cause friendship points to decay over time.

As you raise your friendship level, you unlock special cutscenes that delve into the characters' personal stories and backgrounds. Reaching higher heart levels also rewards you with practical benefits like unique recipes, helpful items sent in the mail, and access to secret areas. While most friendships max out at ten hearts, you can pursue romance with certain characters, eventually marrying them and achieving up to fourteen hearts.

This relationship-building layer adds meaningful depth and rich lore to the game, making it more than just a farming simulation. Ultimately, these connections significantly enhance the overall experience and sense of community in the valley.
10. Which magical creatures help you restore the Community Center?

Answer: Junimos

Junimos are forest spirits residing in the dilapidated Community Center and are believed to be fabled creatures by most of the townsfolk. These cute little creatures assist you with repairing the Community Center as you fulfil bundles for them which are orders that upgrade different parts of the center and requires quite a bit of resource gathering.

After you complete a certain quest for The Wizard you unlock the Junimo Hut which you can build for these helpful creatures to reside in. They will assist with gathering the produce from your crops and will place them in a bag which functions as a chest and can hold up to thirty-six items. After complete repair of the Community Center, the Junimos will leave and take up residence in the Cindersap Forest.

The other options are in the game but are hostile mobs that are harmful and not helpful! Pepper Rex are dinosaur-like creatures that breathe fire and are found in Skull Cavern. Slimes are the most common type of enemies and have many different variants and are gelatinous blobs found in the Mines. Squid Kids are squid-like enemies that spit out fireballs and are also found in the Mines.
11. Which expensive item costs 2,000,000 gold and has the ability to instantly teleport you home?

Answer: Return Scepter

This legendary item allows you to warp home anytime and has infinite charges. This fast travel device definitely adds up on the time saved spent walking to your house especially from remote areas on the map. It is available for purchase from a shop in the Sewers. Producing the funds needed for this scepter is a grind as you can expect to make about 250,000 gold per season using maximum profit optimization methods during the early years of the game.

The incorrect options listed are unique items also available in Stardew Valley. The Horse Flute summons your horse to your current location and works outdoors only and contains infinite charges. It is obtained from the shop in the Walnut Room using the special currency earned there.

The Golden Clock is one of the most expensive items in the game, one will set you back 10,000,000 gold and is sold by The Wizard and it works by preventing debris such as weeds, rocks and trees from spawning on your farm.

The Farm Totem is an item that can be crafted and is a single use consumable item that will warp you to your home, additionally it can be found for sale in the Casino for 1,000 gold.
12. Which mysterious denizen resides in the Sewers of Stardew Valley?

Answer: Krobus

Krobus is a unique character in 'Stardew Valley' in that he is not human but rather classified as a shadow monster. Despite this classification, Krobus is a very friendly creature you can develop a friendship with and is the only citizen who can live with you as a roommate without being married. Prerequisites for this to happen are reaching ten hearts and gifting a Void Ghost Pendant.

In order to access the Sewers, you are required to collect sixty artifacts to donate to the display in the museum ran by Gunther. This is no easy task as some artifacts have extremely low drop rates or are time-gated behind other quests. Once you complete the museum collection you are gifted with the Rusty Key, which unlocks the door to the sewer system (accessible through the sewer cover in town or the grates in Cindersap Forest). Krobus runs a shop that contains some of the most exclusive items in the game available to purchase 24/7 once you gain access to the Sewers.

The Dwarf and The Wizard are both characters in 'Stardew Valley' however they reside in the Mines and Wizard Tower respectively. Shredder is from the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' universe.
13. Which non-playable character (NPC) has a special walnut room that you can access after collecting 100 golden walnuts?

Answer: Mr. Qi

Mr. Qi is a mysterious trenchcoated figure who wears purple spectacles and a black fedora with a galactic motif. Qi's Walnut Room is one of 'Stardew Valley's' most exclusive endgame locations.

Inside players gain access to a perfection tracker that measures your game completion percentage, a special-order board in which you can fulfil orders by gathering certain rare items to earn Qi gems and a vending machine that functions as a store where you can spend your Qi gems on exclusive rare items.

There are no characters by the name of Mr. X or Z, but there is an NPC referred to as The Wizard.
14. What do you need to achieve to unlock the Statue of Perfection?

Answer: Light four candles in Grandpa's shrine

The Statue of Perfection is a valuable mid-game item in 'Stardew Valley' that produces 2-8 Iridium Ore daily. You earn it by passing Grandpa's Evaluation, which occurs at the start of Year 3. To pass, you need to light all four candles on his shrine by accumulating at least 12 out of 21 possible evaluation points. These points are earned through various milestones like your total earnings, skill levels, and friendships. If you succeed, the statue becomes available from the shrine the next day.

Before the start of Year 3, Grandpa's spectral form will appear to you and perform an evaluation on your progress in Stardew Valley. There are no consequences for failing to light all candles during Grandpa's evaluation on the first try and he can be re-summoned by placing a diamond on Grandpa's Shrine any time after the initial evaluation to re-assess you.

There is also a reward called the True Statue of Perfection requiring 100% game completion which is much lengthier and more difficult to obtain requiring hundreds of hours of gameplay. This item dispenses one prismatic shard per day required to craft the formidable galaxy weapons.

Slaying 1000 slimes will award you with the Slime Charmer ring (go to Marlon in the Adventurer's Guild to claim this) which grants immunity to slime damage when equipped. Collecting all golden walnuts doesn't gift you any rewards, this feat only contributes towards the 100% completion checklist.
15. Which of these is not a fish available to catch in 'Stardew Valley'?

Answer: Whale Shark

Fishing is also another skill featured in 'Stardew Valley' and can be advanced to a maximum of 10 levels. The core fishing mechanic involves keeping a green bar positioned over a moving fish icon until a progress bar fills completely. The fishing skill in Stardew Valley levels up by catching fish, with higher levels making the fishing minigame easier by increasing the green bar size and reducing energy consumption. You can upgrade from the basic Training Rod up to the Advanced Iridium Rod with higher tiered rods adding bait and tackle, with bait reducing wait times and tackle providing various bonuses like easier catches or better-quality fish. At levels 5 and 10, you choose professions that either increase fish value and treasure chances (Fisher path) or improve crab pot efficiency (Trapper path).

If you want a challenge, you can try your hand at becoming a master angler by catching all five legendary fish, with five additional legendary fish added in the 1.5 update. These fish are much more challenging to catch and are only found in certain areas during certain conditions.

Ghostfish and Cave Jellies are found on certain floors in the Mines in underground lakes, Mutant Carp is found in the Sewers.
