Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Coastal Forest After collecting the two-way radio, Lara will come across which weapon first and foremost?

Answer: Longbow

Shipwrecked on an island east of Japan, the story begins with Lara being captured by an unknown party while her crewmates take stock on the beach. She awakens in a cave and fights to free herself, ultimately emerging from a cave-in on the rocky cliffs surrounding the island's coast. Following the tutorial, Lara will come across a camp, collect her two-way radio, and take shelter from the storm under a ridge, commencing the Coastal Forest stage.

The area will allow her to collect both the Makeshift Longbow and, heading into a bunker, the Pry Axe utility item.

She will eventually come across several of her crewmates again as they head deeper inland, but the area will end with Lara and Dr. Whitman opening an ancient gate.
2. Mountain Temple The people of Yamatai, the island featured in the game, worship who of these?

Answer: Himiko

Lara and Whitman advance up towards the Mountain Temple, but their quick step closer to the center of the island is marred by enemy forces who, when Whitman tries to stand his ground, capture and bind Lara. She's forced to tread stealthily, heading up into the temple as it burns down around her and escaping out the other side. Undeniably there are issues standing in the way, but with some well-timed stealth kills, she can avoid needing to encounter firebombs for the most part. During this section of the game, Lara will also lay claim to a Semi-Automatic Pistol.
3. Mountain Village Who does Lara locate in the Mountain Village?

Answer: Roth

Arriving at the Mountain Village, Lara will find Roth being attacked by wolves and he'll fall unconscious. It'll be on her to retrieve Roth's pack from atop mountain, if only to retrieve the radio inside. It requires a trip into a wolf den, but it will result in her obtaining a Climbing Axe, required to make her way up climbable walls. And that's the first thing she'll do.

While the Mountain Village is visited several times over during this portion of the game, the next step is heading up to the radio tower to get a signal.
4. Base Approach/Mountain Base Which weapon can Lara nab from the mobs in the Mountain Base?

Answer: Submachine Gun

As Lara ascends the mountains of the island, the phase that involves her heading up to the radio tower requires that she not only get used to travelling by zipline, but also travelling through enemy bases. She'll head up to the communications relay, but along the way she'll have to blow up some walls with a gas leak, acquire a submachine gun, and plow through mobs of armed foes.
There will be a console in the bunker, but it'll be destroyed. Lara will need to head further up to the tower directly to get what she needs.
5. Base Exterior Here, Lara can obtain the Firestarter, an item with finite charges for use.

Answer: False

Lara will emerge from the Mountain Base and onto an abnormally snowy mountaintop. There will be cultists here amongst the bridges and ruins at the top of the island, but the goal will still be for Lara to reach the top of the broadcast tower to get a signal.

She will, most certainly, be able to contact a plane, but she'll need fire to proceed any further. It means nabbing a Firestarter to be able to light a torch at any time without an existing brazier (as much as she wants). The plane will come down to the island but, as if things couldn't get worse, it'll crash into the mountain.
6. Cliffside Village/Mountain Pass Between these two areas, there are no collectibles (GPS Caches, Relics, or Documents)?

Answer: True

While, combined, these two areas contain a couple of campfires for Lara to rest at, these two zones are a go-between, connecting her with the observation tower atop the mountain and the Mountain Village she left Roth at earlier on. There's a slide sequence and a fight against a machete-wielding foe deeper into the villages resting on the cliffside.

She'll get trapped (again) and tied up, but it will only allow her to acquire a rope for her arrows and give her the opportunity to make it back to Roth. By this point, the plane will have crashed in the clearing here and there will be a new objective.
7. Chasm Monastery Cultists found here are attacked by what creatures?

Answer: Oni

Heading out from the Mountain Village and onward across the chasms to the monastery, Lara will get captured again and witness the local cultists being attacked by what can only be described as Oni. If she can hide, run, and use the monastery's crumbling fixtures, she can nab a shotgun along the way.

Here, Lara will confirm she's on the island of Yamatai because the monastery appears to be the tomb of Himiko, the Sun Queen. After somewhat destroying the monastery, Lara will also receive word that Sam has been kidnapped for the cultists' fire ritual.

It never seems to end.
8. Shanty Town Who sacrifices themselves here to protect Lara?

Answer: Grim

After one more pass through the Mountain Village, Lara's next destination is the Shanty Town, a larger area that requires a mountain descent through a rushing river. It'll result in a rough landing, part of which will involve nabbing a parachute, last moment, and descending through the trees.
After finding a downed rescue helicopter and searching for first aid, Lara will acquire Fire Arrows which can be toggled from the bow.
Arriving in the Shanty Town proper, Lara will cross through large groups of foes inhabiting the dense, makeshift buildings. She'll cross several gondolas and come across Grim, held hostage by the Solarii cultists, and he'll sacrifice himself to ensure she gets through the area.
9. Cavern Entrance/Geothermal Caverns Which of these can Lara ignite with fire in these locations?

Answer: Methane

Crossing the upper half of the Shanty Town, Lara will inevitably get captured by the Solarii as she races across the collapsing bridges and into the island's caverns. Her plan is to reach Sam in time and save her from being killed in a ritual sacrifice for Himiko, but things change when the island appears to have other plans. Lara escapes, descending into the geothermal caves with nothing but a bow.

It means crossing through a thrall pit and using the natural methane gas leaks to her advantage.

She'll locate the rest of her crew trapped in a plane during her escape, and with her help, they'll be able to escape as the whole cavern system comes down around them. It doesn't end there; Lara still needs to find Sam and Whitman.
10. Solarii Fortress Here, Lara upgrades one of her guns to become which of these?

Answer: Grenade launcher

Emerging from the Geothermal Caverns, Lara will run into Whitman and Sam and manage to save them as the cultists' fortress comes down around them. The others will flee as she fights against armored foes and, when she's able, the path will be made for her out on the parapets, rooftops, and adjacent stairwells. Eventually she'll face her first gun turrets and repurpose her Submachine Gun into a Grenade Launcher.

It'll allow her to break past new barriers. Roth will arrive with his chopper and, when faced with the possibility of leaving the others behind, Lara will fight back and lead the helicopter to crash land in the ensuing storm.

The decision will cost Roth his life when he's attacked on the ground...but it will save Lara. She'll reunite with others and they'll say their farewells, burning Roth's body on a funeral pyre.
11. Summit Forest A trip through this area will lead back to which previous location (en route to the Shipwreck Beach)?

Answer: Shanty Town

With Roth's death and the destruction of the chopper, Lara's new plan is to commandeer a boat to go inland to the ritual chamber to stop everything that's happening on Yamatai. The cultists will come after her in the Summit Forest (along with their wolves) so she'll be pushed into the caves there.

She'll be called, via radio, towards the beach, but this will require another gondola ride through the fogs of Shanty Town. This will culminate in a battle atop the creaky structures of the village and, yet again, a ride down a raging river all the way to the Shipwreck Beach.
12. Shipwreck Beach The last major hub map of the game, Shipwreck Beach does not connect to which of these other locations (by travel on foot or by story prompt)?

Answer: Base Exterior

Lara will crash through the raging river and arrive at Shipwreck Beach to find the rest of her crew there, having set up an encampment on the shore while repairing an escape boat. She'll find Sam amongst them, but Alex will have headed off to the wreck of the Endurance to obtain much-needed tools and supplies.

It means nabbing both the block and tackle from a nearby wreck and then receiving a Compound Bow from Jonah to be able to traverse the cliffs and ships along the coast to help out.
13. Cliffside Bunker This stage of the game takes place as Lara heads to the Endurance. Who dies there?

Answer: Alex

Lara needs to grab Reyes' tools from the Endurance and find Alex along the way, but getting there involves passing through a bunker of cultists looking to salvage the building and the ship. When Lara finally ziplines onto the deck she'll fight a larger foe for the Rope Ascender, her final major item of the adventure. Alex will be inside the ship with the tools, but he'll be killed in an ensuing explosion that sinks half the Endurance.

There's no real choice at this point but to plod forward. Lara believes that the cultists need to resurrect the Sun Queen to get off the island, so while her companions fix the boat, she needs to head off to a base beneath the cliffs for answers.
14. Research Base To break through the elevator shaft, Lara has to destroy how many gears?

Answer: Four

Although Lara has to ascend the cliffs near Shipwreck Beach to get into the Research Base, she has to descend into the base to find what she's looking for, and that means pushing through tight, ruined hallways and an unusable elevator to get to a ritualistic, cavernous chamber.

Here, she'll be ambushed, but not before finding mummified remains and a sword containing a hidden scroll. It's from this that she gleans that WWII scientists believed the storms were controlled by a mechanism in a ritual chamber deeper in the island.

She has no choice but to believe in the legend of Himiko and travel inland if not only to ensure the crew's escape, but to save Sam, who's been taken yet again.
15. Chasm Stronghold/Chasm Shrine/Chasm Ziggurat With which of these does Lara defeat Matthias?

Answer: Pistols

When Lara makes it into the chasm deep within the island, she'll discover that Whitman has been responsible for Sam's most recent disappearance; he brings her up to Matthias, but is killed by the Oni protecting the shrine. What follows is a mad scramble up the side of the ziggurat in which Lara must avoid conflict with the devastating Oni as long as possible, defend herself from the cultist guards, and reach the ritual chamber at the top.

When she arrives, Himiko herself awakens and prepares to claim Sam's body, but she's able to fight hand-to-hand with Matthias, shoot him with dual pistols, and stab Himiko before the transference can be completed.

As the adventure comes to a close, Lara and the others are picked up by a rescue boat out in the Dragon's Triangle.
