Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What do Thomas Jefferson and John Adams have in common?

Answer: They died on the same day in the same year.

Adams died in the evening and among his last words it was reported he said: "But Jefferson still lives." However, he was wrong. Jefferson had died that morning.
2. What else do John Adams and Thomas Jefferson have in common?

Answer: They both died on the Declaration of Independence's fiftieth anniversary.

It was exactly fifty years to the day that both men died, July 4, 1826. Jefferson even wrote a letter of apology to the people of Washington, saying he was too ill to attend the 50th anniversary, but would be there in spirit (I guess in a way he was).
3. What do John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln have in common?

Answer: The answer is not listed here

People have suggested various parallels between the lives and careers of Kennedy and Lincoln, such as that both were elected in years ending in -60, a century apart (Lincoln in 1860, Kennedy in 1960). On the other hand, this is a game that can be played with any pairs of presidents - you just need to ignore all the non-parallels!
4. What else do Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy have in common?

Answer: They were both shot in the head.

Both men died as a result of these wounds. While Lincoln's death was pretty much an open and shut case, Kennedy's, to this day, remains highly controversial.
5. There exists still another common link between John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln; what is it?

Answer: They both had vice-presidents with the last name of Johnson.

Lincoln's vice-president was Andrew, Kennedy's vice-president was Lyndon, and both were from southern states. Lyndon Johnson later won his own four year term, but Andrew Johnson did not.
6. What is the common link between John Adams and John Quincy Adams?

Answer: They were father and son.

John Quincy Adams is the only president to serve in the legislative branch of the government (he served in The House of Representatives), AFTER he was president.
7. What do Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt have in common?

Answer: They were fifth cousins.

Theodore attended Franklin's wedding. Theodore ran for a third term himself in 1913 when he formed his own party, the Bull Moose Party. However, both he and the incumbent Howard Taft lost to Woodrow Wilson.
8. What is the common link between Benjamin Harrison and William Henry Harrison?

Answer: They were grandson and grandfather.

William Henry Harrison's nickname was Tippecanoe, the place where he fought a battle against the native americans. So the campaign slogan for him and his vice-presidential candidate was "Tippecanoe & Tyler too".
9. What is yet another common link between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams?

Answer: They were co-authors of the draft of the Declaration of Independence.

They were fierce rivals most of their lives yet exchanged many letters. John Adams was the only member of the short lived Federalist party to serve as President.
10. What is a common link between James Madison and Alexander Hamilton?

Answer: This is a trick question; only one of these men served as president.

Hamilton was killed in a duel by Aaron Burr. Since dueling was forbidden in New York, they held the contest on the bluffs of New Jersey. Hamilton fired first and missed, some historians say on purpose. For further in-depth info on the Hamilton/Burr duel, see the book: FOUNDING BROTHERS, by JOSEPH J. ELLIS.
