L.B. Baker and M.L. Baker were on the hunt for their President's assassin. Lt. Luther B. Baker was the leader of the cavalry patrol which trapped Booth at Garrett's barn. Baker was a lieutenant in the First District of Columbia Cavalry. The Warren Commission stated that Dallas Policeman Marion L. Baker (motorcycle officer) heard the shots fired at President Kennedy while on Houston St. and raced to the Texas School Book Depository. Baker was escorted by the building's superintendent Roy Truly. Baker and Truly were separated at one point, in which Baker encountered Oswald and held him in the 2nd floor lunchroom within 90 seconds of the shots.

When Truly caught up with Baker, Baker asked Truly if Oswald worked in the building. Truly said Yes, so Baker let Oswald go and he made his way up to the rooftop with Truly.
