Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How do you say "What´s your name?" in Swedish?

Answer: Vad heter du?

"Lever du?" means "Are you alive?". "Är vi släkt?" means "Are we related?" and "Vilket namn har du inte?" means "What name don't you have?"
2. If you say "Aldrig i livet!", what does it mean?

Answer: No way!

If you want to say "Honestly!", you say "Ärligt!". If you want to say "I swear!", you say "Jag svär!" and if you want to say "Yes please!", you just have to say "Ja, tack!".
3. If you want to propose marriage to someone, which of these would you say after kneeling?

Answer: Vill du gifta dig med mig?

"Så du är upptagen?" means "So you are taken?" and "Hur mycket kostar den där?" means "How much does that cost?".
4. You are standing in a store and really want that something, but can't afford it. How do you ask them to lower the price?

Answer: Kan ni sänka priset?

"Kan ni höja priset?" actually means "Can you RAISE the price?", so there you see that "Höja" means Raise and "Sänka" means Lower. "Jag undrar om den här klänningen kan bli mer fulare?" means "I am wondering if this dress can be more ugly?".
5. The person you like has just walked in to the room, and you think it is time for you to express your feelings. How do you tell the person that you like her/him in Swedish?

Answer: None of these.

I hope you don`t say any of these, because then you would say "You are ugly. (Du är ful)", "You are not my type (Du är inte min typ)." and "I hate you (Jag hatar dig).". "Jag gillar dig" means "I like you." and would be the correct answer.
6. "Rött" is a ... what?

Answer: A colour

"Rött" means "Red". "Blått, grönt, gult, guld" is also colours and means "Blue, green, yellow, gold".
7. Sweden celebrates Christmas and New Year. If you ever go to a Christmas or New Year's Eve party in Sweden, this may be useful. How do you say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year" in Swedish?

Answer: "God Jul!" and "Gott Nytt År!".

All of these incorrect answers are just rubbish and made up, except for "Ja må han leva!", wich is a part of the Swedish Happy Birthday Song, and means (if directly translated) "Yes may he live!", but if you want it to make sense it is better to translate it to "Yes he will live!".
Did you know that in Sweden they give out presents on the 24th December, NOT the 25th?
8. If the police came and asked you if you had committed a crime, but you are innocent; what should your answer be?

Answer: Nej

I hope that you don`t say "Ja" to that question when in Sweden, because that would earn you a direct ticket to jail. And "Jag kommer inte ihåg..." (I don`t remember...)" isn`t so smart either. If you say "Karl" they would think you have a problem or something, because that is a name...
9. How could you ask someone how old they are?

Answer: Both of these

You are asking the same question except in different ways, because "Hur många år är du?" means "How many years are you?" and "Hur gammal är du?" means "How old are you?". So they are different ways to ask the same question and you would get the same answer.
10. ABBA is a Swedish pop group whose songs were used in the famous musical "Mamma Mia!". "Mamma Mia!" is an Italian expression which means "My Mother!". How do you say "Dear Mother" in Swedish?

Answer: Kära Mamma

That wasn't so hard was it? You know, The winner takes it all... Lycka till med livet! (Good Luck with your life!)
