Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the NY Tri State Area, which of these is the longest suspension bridge?

Answer: Verrazzano Narrows Bridge

The Verrazzano Narrows was completed in 1964 and at that time was the longest suspension bridge in the world. It has been surpassed several times now. The Tappan Zee bridge connecting Tarrytown, NY and Nyack, NY is not a suspension bridge.
2. What is the TBTA?

Answer: Triboro Bridge and Tunnel Authority

The Bridges and tunnels in the authority all connect the 5 Boroughs of NY.
3. If you own this, you can have the price of the toll deducted from a prepaid account, meaning faster travel across the bridge, without having to pay a physical toll.

Answer: EZ Pass or Fast Pass

EZ Pass was developed to link all the tolls to one database and have a prepaid account to speed up traffic.
4. The Bronx-Whitestone Bridge opened and then went through a major refit adding additional truss work, why did this happen?

Answer: Because the Tacoma Narrows bridge was sheared by high winds.

The Tacoma Narrows bridge was sheared apart by high winds. Fearing the same would happen to the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, the architect added an additional truss to the roadway.
5. Which is not a suspension bridge?

Answer: Bayonne Bridge

The Bayonne Bridge connecting Staten Island to NJ is not a suspension bridge. The other three are. The suspension span of the Triboro Bridge connects Randall's Island to Astoria, Queens.
6. The Three spans of the Triboro Bridge meet where?

Answer: Randall's Island

All Three Spans - The Harlem River Lift Bridge, the Bronx Crossing Span, and the East River Suspension Bridge all converge on Randall's Island, home of Downing Stadium, past home of the NY Cosmos soccer team.
7. This Crossing is not part of the TBTA

Answer: Brooklyn Bridge

Wanna buy a bridge?
8. True or False: There is a bridge linking Connecticut to Long Island?

Answer: False

There is no bridge connecting these two geographical points. However, there is a ferry that runs between these points. The closest water crossing is the Throgs Neck Bridge or the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge.
9. The George Washington Bridge is owned and operated by?

Answer: Port Authority of NY and NJ

The Authority also operates the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels as well.
10. The Verrazano Narrows Bridge was featured in which film?

Answer: 'Saturday Night Fever'

Tony and his friends were seen fooling around on the bridge, and during the last sequence, Bobby C loses his footing (maybe on purpose) and falls into the drink.
