Washington died on December 14, 1799 at Mount Vernon, his home on the Potomac River in Virginia, of quinsy, a throat ailment. He was 67.
2. How old was US president John Adams at his death?

Answer: 90

John Adams was born on October 30, 1735. He died at his home in Quincy, Massachusetts in the summer of 1826. He was 90.
3. Which of the following US Presidents did NOT die on July 4?

Answer: Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson died on June 8, 1845, at age 78. James Monroe died on July 4, 1831 in New York City at age 73. John Adams died on July 4, 1826 at age 90. Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826 at age 83. It is nothing short of miraculous that Adams and Jefferson, who both served on the committee to write the Declaration of Independence, should both die on the 50th anniversary of that document's taking effect.
4. Which US president was known as "Old Tippecanoe"?

Answer: William Henry Harrison

William Henry Harrison was in command of U.S. troops at the Battle of Tippecanoe, on Novemeber 7, 1811. His army won a close-fought battle over the Native American forces. Harrison was called "Old Tippecanoe" during the presidential election of 1840 to remind voters that he was a war hero in the same mold as Andrew Jackson.

Martin Van Buren finished his one term as President in the early months of 1841. William Henry Harrison, who had defeated Van Buren in the Election of 1840, took office on March 4, 1841. John Tyler's first wife, Letitia Christian Tyler, died in 1842, while her husband was President. Two years later, Tyler married Julia Gardiner in the White House. Tyler was 54, Julia was 24. Between his two wives, Tyler had 15 children.
8. Who assassinated President James Garfield?

Answer: Charles Guiteau

Charles Guiteau was 39 when he shot Garfield. Guiteau wrote and delivered one short, rambling speech in favor of Garfield during the Election of 1880. Guiteau expected to be rewarded as Ambassador to France, though he could speak no French. He was put off by Garfield and his staff and was told to leave and not return. Guiteau took his frustration out on the good Mr. Garfield, shooting him at the Sixth Street Train Station in Washington D.C.on July 2, 1881.
9. Who was the first US President to attend a major-league baseball game?

Answer: Benjamin Harrison

Benjamin Harrison attended a game at Boundary Field in Washington D.C. on June 6, 1892. This was the home field of the National League's Washington Senators. Harrison watched the Cincinatti Reds defeat the Senators 7-4 in 11 innings. A huge fan of the game, Harrison stayed for all 11 innings.
10. Which of the following US presidents never married?

Answer: James Buchanan

Up to and including Obama, James Buchanan was the only US president who never married. Evidence suggests he was a homosexual. His niece, Harriet Lane, served as his First Lady during his one term as President (1857-1861).
