William Lyon MacKenzie King was born December 17, 1874 into a Presbyterian family in Kitchener, Ontario. His father was an unsuccessful lawyer and his mother was the daughter of the 1837 rebel, William Lyon MacKenzie.

King was one of the most educated prime ministers. He attended all of the above schools, and he also attended the University of Chicago. He held a doctorate in economics. He also performed social work in some of the worst slums in North America in order to further his learnings.

King was the tenth prime minister, following Arthur Meighen. John A. Macdonald was the first prime minister, Pierre Trudeau was the 15th prime minister and Joe Clark was the 16th prime minister.
