Subject: Quiz-O-Meter 5 - COMPLETE

Posted by: kyleisalive
Date: Mar 29 20

Tacked to the wall in this corner of the Author Lounge is a ten-step meter. Someone has placed a sign beneath it. Judging by challenges of this type in the past, all we need to do is fill it up to the top, but how do we do that?

Even points... Hmm

Maybe sports?

Tied or duce?

How about an even number with "points" in the title?

BTD, that's what I was thinking once I figured out the clue system.

I have an idea for a quiz on famous ties in sports. Just trying to figure out how to title it.

I wanted to be cute and do something like "Kissing your Sister" (as the old saying about ties,) but I'm not sure a "cute" title like that works for this challenge.

Or maybe there's a common word again. I'm thinking about 'break' which could be 'break even' or 'break points'.

You are probably correct. :D

Still not sure I understand the hints. Is 'even points' linked to the previous words like 'super' or is each clue separate? Are all of the quizzes going to be related to each other by some common theme or will they all be completely unique, dependent on the clue at the time?

Historically with these 'meters', the cryptic clue is in and of itself. Everything you need should be right there. It is expected that some of the clues will be tough. I can tell you that for the first three, you pretty much just needed to start the quiz title with 'Super' (since 'Super' started the examples) and submit to a handful of applicable categories.

This clue here? Very different. It's not about the title at all. It might not even be about the contents. Going to need to get creative.

Without spoiling, I would try thinking 'how do I...?' instead of 'what do I...?'

Is there a way to guarantee players can only score an even number of points? Like only choosing the HTML version or writing match quiz?

I think the html version gives you 15 points per question. While you would expect match quizzes to have an even number of correct answers, that is definitely not the case, either.

But I like the way your mind is working - sometimes we have to go WAY outside the box to beat the meter! Then sometimes it is absolutely literal.

Sorry Reedy-- this one isn't working. But it's a great effort! :)

Re: "But I like the way your mind is working"

Likewise. There are more ways to think about points than one.

I am inclined to suspect a criterion such as finding a subcategory that currently has an odd number of quizzes, and writing one to make it an even number of quizzes. Too busy at work right now to write, and probably for a couple more days, but someone else might consider that suggestion.

Testing looney_tunes's theory. My latest quiz just went online in a category that previously had an odd number of quizzes.

Nope on this one as well; the meter doesn't see anything to qualify that as a proper quiz for the clue.
