Alejandro mentions this during the scene where Diego de la Vega takes him to his old lair. He said, "I never thought that one day I would be in the lair of the fox...the lair of Zorro."

At the beginning of the movie, Montero says this, after Zorro says, "You would murder 3 innocent men just to capture me?" Montero answers, saying, "I would murder 100 innocent men if it meant killing you." Montero is the sworn enemy of Zorro, so that is why he wants to kill him.

Whenever Zorro needed Tornado to come for him, all he would need to do is whistle a high-pitched whistle. The original Zorro (Hopkins) whistled for Tornado after the scene where he cut the letter 'Z' into Don Rafael's neck. Alejandro tried calling for another black horse later on in the movie so he could have a black stallion. Alejandro called the horse many names but the horse only came when he whistled.

Joaquín is played by a Cuban named Victor Rivers. He and Antonio do look somewhat similar.

I had thought it sounded like an animal doing their form of yelling, and this thought was confirmed by the DVD commentary, specifically said by the director, Martin Campbell.

When De La Vega and Alejandro are riding in the cart through the market, they spot a black Andalusian being led off. Alejandro remarks that it looks like De La Vega's old steed, Tornado.

De La Vega and Montero are fighting and in an attempt to kill De La Vega, the guard kills Esperanza by accident. Montero is in love with Esperanza, so he kills the guard to avenge her. De La Vega is also devastated by her death.

Diego saves Alejandro's life by stopping him from doing just that in the cantina.

Elena was presented with a flower on the beach by a peasant girl. She recognized the scent and was told by Don Luiz, "It's called Romneya, but it only grows in California and I believe this is your first visit to our shores." But of course she recognized the scent because it was the same flower her ninera hung on her crib when she was a baby in California.

The jail keeper is startled by the water that was thrown on him, so he shouts, "What do you want? Please! Don't touch me. What do you want? Who are you?" Then the mysterious figure lifts his hood, and the jail keeper discovers that it is Rafael Montero. He gulps because he is afraid of what Rafael might do to him.

Diago says this to Alejandro when he wants to go and fight Captain Love whilst he is drunk. This is a bad idea if he wants to fight and kill Captain Love. 'No, not today. He is trained to kill.
