Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does "Zorro" mean in Spanish?

Answer: fox

Alejandro mentions this during the scene where Diego de la Vega takes him to his old lair. He said, "I never thought that one day I would be in the lair of the fox...the lair of Zorro."
2. What kind of horse was Tornado, according to the film's dialogue?

Answer: A black Andalusian

Diego told Alejandro this as the soldiers dragged the horses through the market.
Quote:
Diego: "A black Andalusian; magnificent."
Alejandro: "Looks like your old horse, Tornado."
3. How many children did Diego say that he and Esperanza would grow old with?

Answer: 5

Diego and Esperanza already had 1 child (Elena). Since the Spaniards were going home, Diego didn't need to be Zorro anymore.
Quote:
Diego: "...Today was Zorro's last ride. From now on we'll grow old together with our five children."
Esperanza: "Five?!"
Diego: "Yeah, not enough?"
4. Who was the story by?

Answer: Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio

Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio also wrote the story and screenplay for "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Aladdin".
5. What kind of flower was Elena presented with on the beach when Rafael landed in California?

Answer: Romneya

Elena was presented with a flower on the beach by a peasant girl. She recognized the scent and was told by Don Luiz, "It's called Romneya, but it only grows in California and I believe this is your first visit to our shores." But of course she recognized the scent because it was the same flower her ninera hung on her crib when she was a baby in California.
6. When Three Fingered Jack brought Joaquin and Alejandro to Lopez to see how much they were worth, there was a man and his son there. They gave the men food and told them that the soldiers had a strong box on the wagon. You see the little boy in another scene, later in the movie. Where do you see him again?

Answer: working at the mine

You saw the boy when Alejandro was with the Dons at the mine. He was climbing a ladder with a basket strapped to his head.
7. What was Captian Love's first name?

Answer: Harrison

The only time his first name was said was when Rafael introduced him to Don Alejandro at the Hacienda. Alejandro asked him, "Are you not the man who was chasing a legendary bandit recently?" Captian Love: "He was hardly legendary" Alejandro: "So you caught him?" Captian Love: "It's only a matter of time." Alejandro: "Well the bandit may have escaped, but the rest of us will certainly think twice about going to confession." Of course Alejandro had been the bandit.

He knew the right nerve to hit with Captian Love. Even though Zorro was supposed to put aside personal feelings, it was obvious that the confrontation was purely for personal reasons.
8. Captain Love killed Joaquin Murrieta.

Answer: False

Joaquin killed himself. He didn't want to give Captian Love the pleasure. Had he not shot himself Captain Love would have killed him anyway, so it is often be interpreted that he killed Joaquin.
9. Antonio Banderas was the first Spanish actor to play Zorro.

Answer: True

There were many actors who had played Zorro prior to this movie. The part was even played by a woman, Linda Stirling, in "Zorro's Black Whip". Antonio Banderas was the first Spanish actor to play the Zorro role, but ironically the character of the "new" Zorro, Alejandro Murrieta, was supposed to be a Mexican.
10. Finish the quote: "I have had the proper instruction since I was ____."

Answer: four

Alejandro (as Zorro) had just stolen the map from Rafael, the map of the location of the mine. He ran into the barn where he found Elena. She knew he was up to something and demanded "....whatever it is you have stolen from my father, I want it back, give it to me!" He refused and she pulled a sword on him. He responded with "I don't have the time to give you the proper instruction".
