Answer: Garo Yepremian

Garabed Sarkis "Garo" Yepremian was a National Football League soccer style placekicker for four different teams from 1966 to 1981. In 1966, while kicking for the Detroit Lions, Garo was the last player to play without a facemask. He decided to add one after he was leveled by Green Bay Packer middle linebacker Ray Nitschke. Ouch!

2 Who was the first National Football League team to display a logo or insignia on their helmet?
Answer: Los Angeles Rams

In 1948, Fred Gehrke, one of the Rams' halfbacks, hand-painted yellow ram horns on all the team's helmets. Gehrke was no amateur artist, because he was an industrial designer in the offseason. His trend setting art caught on fast, and by 1962 all but one NFL team sported art on the side of their helmet.

Bob Howsam, a successful minor league baseball owner, was awarded an AFL charter franchise on August 14, 1959. Severely limited financially, Howsam clothed his debut Broncos in discarded used uniforms from the defunct Copper Bowl in Tucson, Ariz. Making the uniforms particularly unusual were the vertically-striped socks that completed the Broncos' dress. If you've ever seen them, they're kind of comical.

The Packers were the NFLs first example of corporate sponsorship. Their uniforms and equipment were purchased for them by the Indian Packaging Company, hence, their name.
