The red dragon is displayed on the national flag of Wales. However the reason it was chosen remains unknown, although there are many myths and legends regarding its origin. 'Red Dragon' is also the name of a Welsh radio station, which covers the South East Wales area.

Moreover in 2000, the teaching of Welsh became compulsory for all children up to 16 years of age, which has helped to stabilise what once seemed to be a declining language.
