State Anagrams Trivia Quiz
This is a collection of anagrammed US states. Just to make it more interesting, the wrong answers have an extra letter. Your task is to pick out those 12 US states that do not have a spare letter.
A collection quiz
by suomy.
Estimated time: 3 mins.
As mentioned in the Introduction, all the anagrams will produce US states. Those without the extra letter are the ones required and these are (with the anagram in brackets):
California (Oilcan fair) - Lots of possible anagrams. I suppose the oilcan these days is more likely to be containing olive oil rather than the black gold variety.
Florida (Old fair) - The South Florida Fair is probably the oldest, starting in 1912. It used to be called the Palm Beach County Fair however that does not work for this quiz.
Georgia (Aero gig) - Perhaps the Aerospace Tech Week Americas held in Atlanta.
Maryland (Ran madly) - Numerous marathons are held in the state. Madness is not a prerequisite.
Michigan (Ham icing) - If looking for a Michigan glazed ham recipe, there is Aretha Franklin's Detroit-style Holiday Ham recipe.
Minnesota (Nominates) - The state name comes from one of two Dakota names for the river (meaning 'clear blue water' and 'cloudy water'). Not sure who nominated the name.
Montana (Nano mat) - Not sure if you can get the NanoMat fleece roller filter in Montana. It's for aquariums.
Nebraska (Snake bar) - Twenty-nine snake species are found in Nebraska. There is also Snake's Lakeside Beach Bar in the state, apparently.
New York (Worn key) - Plenty of worn keys, or keys worn about the body, with over a million buildings in the New York City alone.
South Carolina (Haircut saloon) - the AI search assistant tells me that there are 2,619 hair salons in the state. Perhaps some of them are saloons as well.
Washington (Saw nothing) - ... at least not until checking out the tree laws for the state. Plenty of scope for dispute with overhanging branches.
Wyoming (My owing) - Few anagrams for this state. A high rate of home-ownership in the state suggests that there a plenty of mortgages in Wyoming with total US mortgage debt around $13 trillion.
The wrong answers, each with an extra letter, are:
Alaska (Kabalas, with a 'b'), Arizona (Aria zone, with an 'e'), Delaware (Wears lead, with an 's'), Maine (Cinema, with a 'c'), Oregon (Goonery, with a 'y'), and Texas (Extras, with an 'r').
