Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Marries Nancy Barbato

Frank and Nancy Barbato were married from 1939-1951. Nancy was the mother of all of Frank's children: Nancy (born 1940), Frank Jr. (1944) and Tina (1948). Nancy Barbato was the first of four wives for Mr. Sinatra, and the one he was married to the longest.
2. Daughter Nancy born

Nancy was the first child of Mr. Sinatra and wife Nancy Barbato, born in 1940. She followed her father into show business, becoming a singer, actress, and movie producer, probably best known for her 1965 hit song "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'". Nancy also sang the theme song to the 1967 James Bond movie, "You Only Live Twice".
3. Leaves Tommy Dorsey's Band

Sinatra left Dorsey's band in 1942. Sinatra had found great success with the band and had a contract that paid Dorsey 43 percent of his earnings. After a legal battle, Sinatra was released from that contract and left Dorsey's band. One of the earliest rumors about Sinatra's involvement with the Mafia concerns this split, the rumor being that Willie Moretti, an underboss of the Genovese crime family, coerced Dorsey to let Sinatra go. For whatever reason, Sinatra and Dorsey never reconciled, even though they had previously been very close.
4. Seen with mobster Lucky Luciano

Sinatra grew up in a working-class New Jersey neighborhood where the Mafia was not unknown. Many Mafia families met in Havana Cuba in 1946 to set post-war organization, and Sinatra was seen there in company with Charles "Lucky" Luciano, the head of the Genovese crime family and the assumed leader of the entire American Mafia. For the rest of his life, Sinatra was plagued with allegations of association with the Mafia.
5. Oscar for "From Here to Eternity"

Sinatra won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar and Golden Globe in 1954 for "From Here to Eternity", a WW2 movie that was seen as reviving Sinatra's career. Sinatra played a junior soldier, Maggio, that was a good friend of Montgonery Clift, and under the command of a top sergeant played by Burt Lancaster.
6. "Oceans 11" with the Rat Pack

Sinatra starred as Danny Ocean in the 1960 original movie "Ocean's 11", the role played by George Clooney in the 2001 remake. Sinatra's Danny Ocean led a group of former army buddies that robbed five Las Vegas casinos. Five members of the Rat Pack starred in this movie: Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop.
7. Son Frank Jr. kidnapped

Frank Sinatra Jr. was 19 years old when he was kidnapped in 1963. He was held for two days and released after his dad paid the demanded ransom of $240,000. The kidnappers were later arrested and sentenced to prison terms, but they were released after serving only portions of their sentences.

One poignant anecdote: the kidnappers insisted on communicating only by payphone, and Sinatra Sr. carried ten dimes with him at all times so he wouldn't be caught short. It was reported that Sinatra carried 10 dimes with him for the rest of his life and was even buried with those coins.
8. Marries Mia Farrow

Sinatra was married to actress Mia Farrow from 1966-1968. At their wedding, Farrow was 21, and Sinatra was 50. Even after their divorce, they reportedly remained close friends for life. Farrow was a young actress and had received notice for her role in the prime-time television soap opera "Peyton Place" from 1964-1966, reportedly quitting at the urging of Sinatra. Farrow played a caring mother for a "special" baby in the 1968 movie "Rosemary's Baby".
9. Presidential Medal of Freedom

Sinatra received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Ronald Reagan in 1985. Sinatra was a Democrat who supported Franklin Roosevelt and John Kennedy, and he was reportedly a close friend of Kennedy. However, he supported Republican Richard Nixon for president in 1972 and donated $4 million to Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign.
10. Rat Pack Reunion Tour

In 1988, Sinatra reunited with Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. for a 29-show, "Rat Pack Reunion Tour", that played in some large arenas across the U.S. Dean Martin left the tour after five shows, citing health problems, but Sinatra and Davis continued, adding Liza Minelli to replace Martin.
