Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A perfect mixture of comedy and action, Jackie Chan makes architectural feats look easy and hilarious. In which of his movies, also starring Chris Tucker, did the climactic battle and many stunts take place in the Eiffel Tower?

Answer: Rush Hour 3

In the third movie of the "Rush Hour" film series, Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and his sidekick James Carter once and for all defeated the Triads, an Asian criminal organization. An assassin attempted to kill the Chinese ambassador, who was searching for the person known as "Shy Shen", a figure of importance within the Triads. In the end, Shy Shen turned out to be a woman who, with Lee and Carter's help, exposed the leaders of the Triads and killed the main villain.
In the climactic battle in the Eiffel Tower, Lee battled the assassin, who was his foster brother, Kenji, while Carter took on several Triads. After Lee saved Kenji's life, but they continued fighting, they ended up hanging onto a line high up on the tower. Kenji sacrificed himself so Lee could live. While escaping from the Triads, Lee and Carter performed their amazing feat through an impromptu parachute comprised of them clinging to a big French flag. They drifted from near the top of the tower under fire from the Triads, and splashed down in a nearby fountain and pool.
The incorrect answers are all movies starring Jackie Chan, but none with Chris Tucker and with scenes on the Eiffel Tower.
2. You can't really get more action in movies than from Tom Cruise, who played Ethan Hunt, hero of the "Mission: Impossible" film series. In which "Mission: Impossible" movie did Ethan have to climb the tallest building in the world?

Answer: "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol"

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, the fourth Mission: Impossible film, was about how IMF, specifically IMF agent Ethan Hunt and his team, were blamed for blowing up the Kremlin, which is later revealed to be caused by Kurt Hendricks, a Russian who wanted to start a nuclear war between the US and Russia. Ghost Protocol, was activated, meaning that IMF was disowned and must continue as a rogue operation. Hunt lead his team to stop the impending nuclear war, and proved that the US did not cause the Kremlin's bombing.
The Burj Kalifa was where the team had to intercept codes needed by Hendricks to launch a missile against the US and begin a war. Ethan had to climb eleven stories up and seven units over to the 130th floor so that the team could control the building's system. He climbed up outside the tallest building in the world without any help other than two gloves that magnetically clung to surfaces. After that amazing feat on an architectural wonder, he then had to return down, but both gloves stopped working. Ethan ran down the building and swung into the room he was in by means of a lead that, as Brandt said was "too short". After that, Hunt followed up with another amazing feat in a building, driving a car over the edge into a hundred foot fall so he could stop the missile in time.
The scenes in the building were filmed on location at the Burj Kalifa in Dubai. Cruise refused a stunt double and did the stunts on the building himself.
The incorrect answers are the previous three "Mission: Impossible" movies.
3. Upon which architectural wonder was the climactic battle of the 2009 film version of "Sherlock Holmes" set?

Answer: Tower Bridge, London

Based on the famous detective novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, "Sherlock Holmes" describes how Sherlock Holmes caught a "magician", Lord Blackwood, and then solved the mystery of his supposed revival after his hanging which was presumed to have killed him. Blackwood attempted to kill all Parliament members other than his cohorts, but was thwarted by Holmes, who had figured out the intricacies of Blackwood's supposed magic. At the end of the movie, it is revealed that Blackwood was used by Professor Moriarty as a distraction for Holmes while he prepared for his own devious schemes to take place, setting the plot for the movie's sequel.
The main battle took place on what was in that time period a still incomplete Tower Bridge in London. Using fighting skills that he had displayed early on in the movie in a boxing ring, Sherlock defeated Blackwood and left him hanging in chains and ropes that swung on that architectural structure.
The incorrect answers are all different, real structures.
4. In which "Star Wars" movie do two siblings swing across a chasm within a terrifying, man-made structure?

Answer: Star Wars Episode IV: "A New Hope"

The plot of "A New Hope" centered around Luke Skywalker and how got caught up in the war between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. After becoming the owner of a droid, R2-D2, who possessed the plans to the Death Star, which had to be destroyed if the Rebel Alliance would survive. Luke, a Jedi (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Han Solo and his faithful friend Chewbacca saved Princess Leia, and in the end shot the Death Star, which exploded.
While running from storm troopers aboard the Death Star, Luke and Leia (while being siblings were not at the time aware of it) swung across a deep chasm within the massive structure, a feat performed on merely a thin string. There was supposed to be a bridge, but Luke shot the control panel before he realized what it was for, so he was forced to improvise.
The wrong answers are other "Star Wars" movies, but non featured Luke and Leia swinging across a chasm in a man-made structure. They did, however, swing in a similar way from Jabba the Hutt's boat to another in "Return of the Jedi".
5. Falling down can also be a feat, that is, if the architectural structure is high enough! Superheroes can have architectural accidents, too. In "The Avengers" (2012 film), who fell off STARK Tower without his suit?

Answer: Tony Stark

"The Avengers" is a story based on the Marvel Comics of how a band of heroes saved the world from an alien invasion led by Loki, a demigod from space with designs of ruling the world. Tony Stark "Iron Man", Steve Rogers "Captain America", Dr. Bruce Banner "The Hulk", and Thor, Loki's foster brother saved Earth from Loki's Chitauri invasion along with Clint Barton "Hawkeye" and Natasha Romanoff "Black Widow", two ordinary humans with spy training.
In a confrontation with Loki, Stark took off his suit, leaving him powerless to stop when he fell off his own tower. However, his suit was sent flying after him, and closing around him kept him from turning his amazing feat to a tragedy.
The incorrect answers are male members of the Avengers, who, while facing a lot of danger, did not come close to falling off STARK Tower.
6. Ever seen the Three Musketeers doing stunts? While being in a completely different movie, a similar trio performed incredible feats around an architectural wonder in the movie "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers". What architectural wonder was it?

Answer: Helm's Deep

"The Two Towers", part of the "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy, picked up where "The Fellowship of the Ring" left off with the breaking of the Fellowship, and continued on to Frodo and Sam's journey to Mordor while far away the "Lord of the Rings" three musketeers, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli found Merry and Pippin and defended Rohan against Isengard armies in a desperate stand in Helm's Deep, the great refuge of Rohan.
During the battle at Helm's Deep, the Three Hunters performed great feats of valor, such as Gimli leaping off a castle wall to save Aragorn, Legolas sliding down stairs picking off orcs with his bow, and Aragorn tossing Gimli and himself onto a bridge to defend the keep against Saruman's orcs.
The incorrect answers are various buildings on Middle Earth: Isengard is Saruman the White's lair near Rohan, Minas Tirith, or Minas Anor, is the capital of Gondor, and Meduseld is the king of Rohan's hall in Edoras, Rohan's capital.
7. A short segment of the Climax! series, what relatively unknown TV version of a famous novel features a renowned spy who performs feats in a well-known gambling house?

Answer: "Casino Royale"

"Casino Royale" is a short television segment of TV series Climax! and based on Ian Fleming's novel "Casino Royale". James Bond was given a mission to force Soviet spy Le Chiffre to get bankrupt. He accomplished this by winning a lot of Le Chiffre's money, getting himself and Bond girl Valerie Mathis (the TV equivalent of Vesper Lynd in the book) caught in the process. 007 managed to escape and shoot Le Chiffre, not without a confrontation scene in which he performs his usual James Bond feats.
The incorrect answers are all James Bond movies.
8. What TV show includes breathtaking architectural feats such as falling off a building and trying to get to safety with plywood, or jumping in elevators?

Answer: "Mythbusters"

Mythbusters is a scientific TV series, the purpose of which was to prove or refute many rumors or myths, hence the name "Mythbusters".
The ninth episode of the 2004 season saw them testing elevator falls. In the tenth episode of the same season, the MythBusters tested the theory of whether a person falling off a building could slide to safety with a sheet of plywood. While the MythBusters considered safety a top priority, apparently it was still safe to try out such breathtaking feats.
Of the incorrect answers, "Desperate Housewives" and Prison Break are real TV shows, "Suicide" is made up. Despite being desperate, hopefully housewives will never be so desperate as to try these feats performed on and in architectural structures!
9. In which popular TV series does the main character sacrifice herself to save the world by jumping off a tower into a portal?

Answer: "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer"

"Buffy" is a TV show that focused on Buffy Summers, a Slayer, called to protect the world from magical, harmful beings, especially vampires. In the last episode of the sixth season, "The Gift", Buffy realized that death is her gift, accepting what had been told her by the First Slayer previously. She leaped into a portal opened by an evil being, Glory, sealing the portal with her essence and prevented an apocalypse.
In the final battle atop a hastily erected architectural structure, a tower by the portal, Buffy defeated Glory and instead of letting her sister Dawn sacrifice herself, leaped into the portal to save the Earth for the umpteenth time.
The incorrect answers are all TV series: "Angel" is a spin-off from "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer", and the other two are completely unrelated shows.
10. In which episode of the comedic TV show "The Office" did main character Michael Scott pretend to commit suicide by leaping off an architectural structure (namely, his office building)?

Answer: "Safety Training"

In the third season, "Safety Training" is the twentieth episode, and centers around Michael, who, annoyed that people did not appreciate his office safety training, placed an inflatable castle at the bottom of the building and made the employees believe he was going to kill himself. However, he had practiced before on a trampoline, and really had no intention of dying. In the same episode, worker Karen Filipelli decided that she was still an outsider after discovering that she knew nothing of her coworkers' habits and peculiarities.
After putting on a show of depression, Michael allowed himself to be talked out of jumping onto the bouncy castle, and his only feat on that architectural building was the trial beforehand on the trampoline.
The incorrect answers are all "Office" episodes.
