Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The first appearance of Aquaman was in 1941 in "More Fun Comics" #73. At the time he was mainly occupied with war-time foes such as Nazi U-boat captains. His origin story was referred to briefly. It was further developed during the Silver Age (after his appearance in "Adventure Comics" #260 in 1959) where his father Tom and outcast mother Atlanna are revealed. The Modern Age origin story has him born as Orin to Queen Atlanna and the mysterious wizard Atlan. Abandoned due to his blond hair, he is adopted by a lighthouse keeper named Arthur (not Tom) Curry, who names him after himself.

Likewise his half-brother Orm is variously the younger son of Tom Curry and a human woman (Silver Age) or the second son of Atlanna by King Orvax. He is also known as Orm Marius. There also at least two versions to his Ocean Master persona - sworn enemy of Aquaman or eventual ally.

Arthur marries his wife Mera in "Aquaman" #18 (1964) and she becomes his queen when he is recognised as successor to the Atlantean throne. They have a son Arthur Jr., also called Aquababy, who dies at the hands of Black Manta, a ruthless bug-eye-helmeted mercenary. Despite the supervillain's numerous origin stories, he has consistently been an archenemy to Aquaman since appearing in "Aquaman" #35 (1967).

In the Modern Age, Mera blames Arthur for the death of their son, goes insane, is locked up and escapes back to her home-world Xebel in another dimension, only to return later after becoming sane again and to resume active participation.

Nuidis Vulko appears in the Silver Age as a mentor to Aquaman and then royal advisor. In the Modern Age, Vulko's involvement starts when he objects to baby Orin's abandonment to die on Mercy Reef.

A fresh approach to the Aquaman character in 1994 saw Charybdis, who shares his name with the Ancient Greek sea monster, responsible for Aquaman losing his left hand in a piranha-infested pool. This resulted in Aquaman having his left arm weaponised with a harpoon. It gets a lot more complicated with Aquaman being killed and resurrected. At least he gets his left hand back.

Aquaman has also had appearances in various TV series and films, sometimes as part of the Justice League or variants. These appearances add detail, complexity and sometimes inconsistency to the character's story.
