Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Last Gleaming Pt. 1"- At the beginning of the issue, Angel was having a talk with a higher being housed inside the body of what kind of animal?

Answer: Dog

The issue, written by series creator Joss Whedon, started off with a drawing of the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, California with the caption "Some time ago..." Angel fell from the sky and through the Hollywood sign, landing back in the City of Angels where he'd lost the fight (as he put it).

The "dog" told Angel his city had been restored and that Angel was meant for more. Angel joked that the dog telling him to continue killing was reminiscent of the Son of Sam situation that occurred in New York City in the mid 1970s.
2. "Last Gleaming Pt. 1"- Spike admitted to Buffy that he was there with her and the gang looking for what magical entity?

Answer: Seed of Wonder

Angel had to save a crashing jetliner falling from the sky above Los Angeles. A wink and nod from Joss Whedon that it was an Oceanic airplane, an airline used in TV and movies. Maybe the most well known use was in the TV series "Lost", when an Oceanic flight (815) from Sydney to Los Angeles crashed into a mysterious island.

After Angel saved the flight from disaster, he was thanked salaciously by a flight attendant. She was playing host to the higher being at the time, and afterward told Angel he'd been rewarded for giving up his paradise with Buffy in a way that far surpassed the Shanshu prophecy.

The Scroll of Aberjian held the Shanshu prophecy, which claimed the vampire with a soul could become human once his atonement was fulfilled. Spike told Buffy he and his bug minions were searching for the magical Seed of Wonder.

It would stop the chaos going on in the aftermath of Buffy and Angel's new reality. A reality they immediately abandoned for the greater good, but which was now getting bent of shape over being ditched at birth. And, Spike too was now a vampire with the soul, so Shanshu may never have been Angel at all. And, unfortunately, the Seed of Wonder seemed to be back where it had all started..
3. "Last Gleaming Pt. 2"- Near the end of this issue, Buffy jumped down into the crater that was once Sunnydale. Who grabbed a hold of her and rode down into the crater as well?

Answer: Spike

In this issue, written by Joss Whedon and Scott Allie, Spike explained to Buffy about the Seed of Wonder. He used the cork in a wine bottle metaphor to explain its purpose. The Seed of Wonder was basically a mystical cork standing between their dimension and all of the other ones out there.

It created all of the magic found on their plane of existence, was older than even the First Evil, and could face three different fates. It could left as it was currently. It could be removed and destroyed, as was Twilight's mission. Or, it could be destroyed while sitting deep inside the Earth.

The last option would stave off dimensional bleeds, but erase all of the magic on the current plane of existence. Once the pair made it down into the Sunnydale crater, the protector of the Seed told Spike he'd expected Twilight to travel down with Buffy. Angel, aka Twilight, was off fighting another battle and being goaded on by some entity to destroy the Seed.

This was the same creature posing as a dog in the previous issue.

It appeared at the end of this issue that Angel had not been quite sold on fulfilling his Twilight destiny. This entity kept calling Angel 'father'. Meanwhile, Willow was finding out from Aluwyn that she was most likely the traitor Buffy had faced in the future. Willow had to make sure that Twilight/Angel was not successful in his mission to destroy the Seed, should he choose to accept said mission,
4. "Last Gleaming Pt. 3"- Who turned out the be the protector of the Seed of Wonder?

Answer: The Master

The Master told the gang he'd been resurrected when "Twilight chose Angelus". He also said he'd expected Angel/Angelus/Twilight to already be down in the crater nearing the Seed. Spike was quick to offer, "oh he'll be around later to take credit everything, don't you fret." It turned out that the Master had been under control of the Seed for his entire 800 years, though he hadn't realized it at the time. Buffy said that explained the Master's grotesque face, which she wanted to hit again after so many years. Xander made a cute "Lord of the Rings" reference by insinuating the Master was Gollum and the Seed was "his precious".

This issue, part three of five, was also written by Joss and Scott.
5. "Last Gleaming Pt. 3"- Who lost his/her power while in the Seed's presence?

Answer: Buffy

They called it her kryptonite. She was useless fighting down near the Seed, so she was forced to head back up to be more useful. Meanwhile, Dawn had been injured during an attack and Xander had taken her topside for military medical support. Once there, he found out the Amy and Warren had left the aid of the military and went off on their own to destroy the Seed.

At the end of the issue, Twilight showed up in full control of Angel's body and attacked Buffy.
6. "Last Gleaming Pt. 4"- Who killed the Master, again?

Answer: Twilight/Angel

Twilight was sort of telling/pleading to Buffy not to turn her back on the new world they'd created together. He said "you were chosen, Buffy". The Master replied "that's original". So, Twilight put his fist right through the Master's face, all the way out the back of his head. It was a similar scene, though in reverse, of what Conner did to Jasmine at the end of season four of "Angel".
7. "Last Gleaming Pt. 4"- Who took the mystical scythe from Faith in order to deliver it to Buffy?

Answer: Giles

When Giles got down near the Seed, where the power duo had taken their fight, he found Xander down there as well. Xander tried to talk Giles into throwing the scythe to Buffy, since the Seed fueled the scythe's powers. But, Giles was sure if he did that, Buffy would hesitate in killing Twilight for fear of ending Angel at the same time. Twilight killed Giles by snapping his neck, which immediately prompted Buffy to retaliate.

She used the scythe to destroy the Seed. Warren was killed by something that fell from the sky (hooray). Magicks were gone, and the slayer line was ended.
8. "Last Gleaming Pt. 5"- The final issue of season eight started out four months after the end of the Seed. What was Buffy doing for a job?

Answer: Waitressing

Yep, our Buffy was back to waitressing! It was four months later and she was in San Francisco. She narrated that she was not completely depressed by this waitressing stint. It may have as simple as not having to wear a hat with a chicken on it (good old Doublemeat Palace).
9. "Last Gleaming Pt. 5"- Why was Kennedy leaving Willow?

Answer: Willow had broken off their relationship

Kennedy told Buffy that she had not needed to destroy the Seed, as Willow had been close to beating back the monsters. Buffy told Kennedy that she did not have a choice but to do what she had done. After seeing Giles die, Buffy had acted as quickly as she could to do what needed to be done to stop Twilight.

Then, Buffy asked Kennedy how she could leave Willow now, when Willow needed her the most. That was when Kennedy revealed that Willow had dumped her. Later, Willow told Buffy she'd done it because Kennedy would have left her eventually, since she no longer had power of her own. All of the slayers already called were still powerful, but no new ones would ever arrive.
10. "Last Gleaming Pt. 5"- Which choice was not true about the final issue of season eight?

Answer: Dawn was pregnant

Also true was that Spike came by to visit Buffy and gave her a pep talk. He still had her back, and seemed as though he might be the only one never to turn on her. "The trouble with changing the word is... you don't."
