Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I seem to be forever running into ghosts and monsters, along with my buddy Shaggy. I'm admittedly not the bravest dog around. Like many, though, treats are my thing. I am a Great Dane. Can you name me?

Answer: Scooby Doo

Scooby was introduced in the late sixties by Hanna Barbera. His other friends include Velma, Daphne and Fred. The voice of Scooby Doo has been provided by Don Messick.
2. I am a mixed breed. Dick Dastardly is my partner. My speech is pretty much limited to a wheezing laugh, which usually occurs when one of Dick's evil plans backfire. Who am I?

Answer: Muttley

Muttley is another Hanna Barbera creation. At first, he wore only a collar, but in later incarnations he appeared wearing an aviator's cap and scarf, and was a pilot.
3. I am a member of the Jetson family; George, Jane, Judy and Elroy. My speech is in low growls and every word seems to begin with an R. I am older than Scooby Doo, making my first appearance in 1962. Who am I?

Answer: Astro

Yet one more Hanna Barbera creation, the Jetsons were created as the space age equivalent of the "Flintstones". Don Messick is the voice of Astro.
4. I began to appear in newspaper cartoons in 1954. Drawn by Brad Anderson, I'm a member of the Winslow family. I'm a Great Dane who believes he's a lap dog, and am spoiled beyond redemption. What's my name?

Answer: Marmaduke

Marmaduke appeared in his own motion picture in 2010. He appeared in the daily comics for over five decades.
5. I am a female who has never been known to speak. I live with the Bumsteads, Blondie and Dagwood. I had five puppies at one time in the past, one of which was called Elmer, but the pups haven't been seen in many years. Do you know me?

Answer: Daisy

Daisy appeared in the Chic Young strip beginning in 1938. After Young's retirement, the strip was produced by his son, Dean. The Bumstead children grew into their teens, and the buxom Blondie started a catering business. Daisy remained the household pet.
6. I am a member of the Warner Brothers cartoon family. A supporting player, you might say. I'm a basset hound. My life seems to revolve around tormenting and being tormented by one Foghorn Leghorn. It may be difficult, but can you name me?

Answer: George P. Dawg

George, the barnyard dog was introduced in 1946 by director/animator Robert McKimson. He was voiced, of course, by Mel Blanc. He has also appeared as Porky's pet and as a vagabond dog attempting to get Porky to adopt him. He once claimed to be half pointer, half setter and half spitz.
7. I was portrayed in a movie by a dachshund. My friend Garfield once looked me up in a book and found that I am "purebred clown". My owner is Jon. Who am I?

Answer: Odie

A Jim Davis creation from 1979, Odie has been described by some as unintelligent. Still, despite being Garfield's sometime nemesis, he is a loyal friend of the feline.
8. I appear in the daily funnies. I am a puppy, the only child of a couple named Paul and Jill. A flea who lives in my ear is also my conscience. Drawn by David Gilbert, can you name me?

Answer: Buckles

Buckles hates vacuum cleaners (the only good vacuum is a dead vacuum) and squirrels. His strip is unique in that Buckles has a handicapped friend, Lester, who gets about in a wheeled contraption that replaces his hind legs.
9. I live at Camp Swampy with my companion, Sergeant Snorkel. I am even allowed to wear an Army uniform. I am a bulldog. Can you name me?

Answer: Otto

Drawn by Mort Walker, Otto and the Sarge were created in the early '50s. They appear in the comic strip "Beetle Bailey". These soldiers, including Otto, have served an amazing sixty plus year hitch.
10. My boy Sherman and I witnessed many great historical events, thanks to my invention, the WABAC time machine. We were first seen on the "Rocky and Bullwinkle Show". Do you know my name?

Answer: Mr. Peabody

Mr. Peabody and Sherman, whom he adopted for company, always found historical facts a little skewed. For instance, when his Latin was translated by the machine, a Roman delivering a speech turned out to be a used chariot salesman. Mr. Peabody was a Jay Ward creation, voiced by Bill Scott.
