Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Arthur Plays the Blues", when Ms. Cardigan retires, who becomes Arthur's new piano teacher?

Answer: Dr. Frederique Fugue

At the beginning of the episode, Arthur's piano teacher (Ms. Cardigan) retires. She then arranges for his new teacher to be Dr. Fugue. Dr. Fugue is a genius. He can tell how long someone has been playing piano just by looking at his or her fingers. He is also very strict. At Arthur's first lesson, he makes Arthur play a lot of scales. Arthur plays all those scales perfectly, so Mr. Fugue assigns Bach's "Two-Part Invention No.8 in F Major" as homework for the next lesson. It has 8,955 notes, which scares Arthur. Throughout the week, he continues to procrastinate. His parents make him practice for one hour on one day, but that's all he does.

At the next lesson, Arthur attempts to play the piece. He does not do it very well. Dr. Fugue asks him if he practiced. Arthur admits that he did not practice enough. Dr. Fugue fires him. Arthur thinks that he was fired because he did not play the piece perfectly, so he goes to Ms. Cardigan's house to talk to her. She explains that Dr. Fugue fires any student that does not practice. She explains that Dr. Fugue does not expect perfection, he just expects them to play their best. Arthur decides to practice again. He spends a few hours practicing the piece until he plays it very well. He returns to Dr. Fugue's house, tells him that he has been practicing, and asks for a second chance. Dr. Fugue grants it. Arthur plays the piece again, and while it plays it very well, he's ashamed of the mistakes he made. Dr. Fugue says that Arthur made 78 mistakes. Arthur apologizes for wasting Dr. Fugue's time and heads to the exit, but Dr. Fugue re-hires Arthur, which proves Ms. Cardigan right.

Dr. Fugue has knitting needles. This scares Arthur because Binky had warned Arthur about Dr. Fugue's knitting needles. Binky seems to think that Dr. Fugue uses those needles as some sort of punishment. Actually, he uses them to make gloves for his students because he requires his students to keep their hands warm.
2. At the end of "Buster's Sweet Success", where does Buster get a job?

Answer: Jack's Joke Shop

Buster buys chocolates from Ms. Krasny with the intention of selling them to make money for the band. He has no success selling a single chocolate. At one point, he starts eating the chocolates. Before he knows it, he's eaten them all and he is in debt. At first, he tries to pay off his debt by making his own chocolates and selling them.

He sells a few boxes of his own chocolates, but nobody likes them and all the customers ask for a refund. After explaining the situation to Ms. Krasny and Mr. Haney, Mr. Haney tells him that a donor has paid Buster's debt but Buster has to work at his shop to pay him back. The donor is Jack, who owns Jack's Joke Shop. Buster does a great job of selling Jack's merchandise.
3. In "Prunella's Special Edition", what is so special about Prunella's copy of the latest "Henry Skreever" book?

Answer: It is in Braille

"Henry Skreever" is a parody of "Harry Potter" ,which was the most popular book series among kids in the 2000s, when this takes place. Most of the kids in Elwood City are fans of "Henry Skreever". Prunella has a reputation for being the biggest "Henry Skreever" fan of them all. However, she is not at the book store when the latest book comes out. She has ordered a special edition of the book and it is coming later in the day.

When the book arrives, Prunella is astonished to learn that it is in Braille. She cannot read Braille. No one lends her their copy of the book. Eventually, she goes to the library and gets a book on how to read Braille. While there, she accidentally bumps into a blind girl and drops her "Henry Skreever" book. The blind girl picks up the book and she is thrilled, because she had been looking for a Braille edition of the book for weeks. Prunella asks the girl to read it to her. She does, and they become friends.
4. "Prunella's Special Edition" introduces which character?

Answer: Marina

Marina is a blind girl. She and Prunella bump into each other at the library (literally). Prunella drops her book and Marina picks it up. Marina discovers that it is a book that she had been looking for for weeks. Prunella cannot read it so she asks Marina to read it to her. Marina does, and she and Prunella become best friends. For some reason, Prunella's other friends do not see Marina very often.

Marina is not to be confused with Maria. Maria is a stutterer who becomes a lead reporter for the school's TV news and then she leads a cat adoption show. The two girls have similar names but they are not the same character.
5. Which characters begin talking in "The Secret Life of Dogs and Babies?"

Answer: Kate, Pal, and Nemo

In this episode, it's revealed that babies and animals can talk with each other. They just cannot talk with older people. Kate has a high-pitched young female voice with a mid-Atlantic accent. Pal has a British accent. Nemo also has a bit of a British accent.

Mr. Read has baked a cake for Mr. Crosswire's niece's wedding. However, the cake-topper has gone missing. It is designed to look like the bride and groom. Kate notices that it is under the table and though she cannot understand what her father is saying, she figures out that he is looking for it. Just as she is about to get it, her mother takes her upstairs for a nap. As she's being carried away, she asks Pal to get it. He gets close to it, but D.W. gets it first and she locks it in her toy barn and takes it upstairs.

Kate sees that it is there (because she and D.W. share a room) and she cries to get D.W. to show it to her. D.W. shows it to her for a little while, but then she tries to take it back. Kate calls Pal and asks for help. Pal gets there in time and he ends up getting it in his mouth. He carries it to Mr. Read. Arthur and D.W. see Pal with it in his mouth and they're not pleased because they don't know what he intends to do with it. As Mr. Read is looking under a table in the living room, Pal tries to get his attention and fails. Pal take it to the kitchen.

Pal leaves the kitchen with a piece of bacon in his mouth and he swallows it. Arthur doesn't clearly see what was in Pal's mouth and Arthur thinks that Pal ate the cake-topper. The Read family goes to the wedding with the cake without the topper, with Mr. Read feeling very sad. We see that Pal left it on top of his food dish in place of the bacon. Pal gets it and runs to the van. He cannot get in the van in time, but Kate tells him that they are going to the Crosswire residence.

Pal tries to follow the van, but his leash gets caught on a fence. Nemo releases the leash on the condition that Pal beg for him, and then Nemo tells him where the Crosswire place is. Pal gets there and throws the cake-topper to Kate, who then throws it on top of the cake. Arthur's parents try to talk to Mr. Crosswire about why there's no cake-topper (they do not know that Pal didn't eat it and that Pal give it to Kate who put it on the cake). When Mr. Crosswire sees the cake, the cake-topper is there and Mr. Crosswire is thrilled. Everyone has fun at the wedding. At first, Kate is sad because she thought that putting the cake-topper on the cake would turn everyone into babies. Pal cheers her up by telling her that their appearances haven't changed, but they are behaving similar to babies. The episode ends with Kate saying "I don't know what they'd do without us."
6. In "Muffy's Soccer Shocker", when Mr. Crosswire becomes the kids' soccer coach, what position does Muffy play?

Answer: Goalie

The team's original soccer coach, Trevor, is fired because he does not care about winning. He only cares about having fun. His replacement is Mr. Crosswire. Mr. Crosswire is a car salesman and he tries to apply his knowledge of cars to soccer. Initially, the kids do not enjoy his car-themed drills and his cheer. It gets worse when he makes Muffy the goalie.

On Muffy's first practice as goalie, every shot went past her into the net. Her attempts to talk to her father and trick her father fail. In her second practice, she stops two out of fifty shots. She then gets demoted to substitute goalie while Brain becomes the goalie. In the next game, the kids use their coach's car terms to communicate with each other (They are heard saying things like "Muffler" and "Shock Absorber"). With the Elwood City kids winning 3-2, Brain makes a save but then injures his ankle and Muffy steps in. She allows a goal on the first shot in her direction. In the final 10 seconds, an opposing forward has a breakaway and Muffy is the only person between the ball and the goal. She makes the final save. The kids and parents are thrilled to have tied Mighty Mountain. Muffy's teammates chant her name at the end.
7. In "The Boy Who Cried Comet", who is the boy who cried comet?

Answer: Buster

Buster gets a telescope to look for UFOs. He does not find one, but he finds a comet. The telescope tells him that the comet will hit Earth in 37 days. His mother tells him that if a comet hits the Earth, the dust will block out the sun and there will be another ice age and that this is what caused dinosaurs to go extinct. He tries to tell all the kids at school about it, but they don't believe him. He asks Brain for help and he shows Brain the photo of the comet.

Brain checks Buster's data and he concludes that Buster is correct. This causes the kids to run around screaming. Fern steps on a screw on the ground. She puts it in the telescope and fixes it. It turns out that without it, the telescope was giving incorrect readings. With it, the telescope says that the comet will not hit the Earth. Despite that mistake, Buster gets his name in the paper for discovering a comet and he gets praised by his friends.
8. "Arthur and Los Vecinos" introduces which family?

Answer: Molina

The Reads get new neighbors who are originally from Ecuador. There's a teenage boy named Alberto, a 3-year-old girl named Vicita, their parents, and a big dog named Amigo. Alberto and Arthur become good friends. They both like comic books. Alberto gives his comic books to Arthur, but they are in Spanish so Arthur cannot read them. He constantly calls Alberto asking for translations until Alberto gives him a Spanish-English dictionary.

D.W. and Vicita play several games and Vicita always wins. D.W. brings over her favorite game (Tower of Cows) to teach Vicita how to play it, but Vicita instantly wins. D.W. calls Vicita a terrible friend after that. Later on at an outside dinner, Vicita cries because the peas touch the mashed potatoes. D.W. uses a knife to separate the foods, which calms Vicita down. D.W. says that green and white foods can never touch each other. Pal and Amigo become good friends and the episode ends with them teaching each other how to bark in the other language.
9. In "Citizen Frensky", Francine starts a newspaper that makes fun of everybody. Who starts another newspaper that makes fun of her to teach her a lesson?

Answer: Catherine

One day, all the kids are sent to the workplace of a classmate's parent. They draw names out of a hat to determine who will go to whose parents. Arthur goes to Mr. Crosswire's car dealership. Muffy goes to Brain's mother's ice cream shop(everyone wanted to go there), Brain goes to Mr. Read's house and he installs a new accounting program on her computer, Buster goes to the dump with Mr. Frensky, and Francine goes to the newspaper with Ms. Baxter.

Ms. Baxter introduces Francine to Harry Mills, the lead sportswriter and Ms. Baxter's boyfriend. He assigns Francine to take photos of the next horse race. There is a goat on the racetrack and neither Ms. Baxter nor Harry notice, but Francine notices. The goat causes a lot of trouble on the racetrack and Francine takes plenty of photos to document it. The story goes on the front of the sports section and Harry calls Francine an "ace reporter." This inspires Francine to start her own newspaper.

The Frensky Star takes embarrassing photos of Mr. Ratburn and all of Francine's friends. They all turn against her. One day, Francine is drumming and singing on the roof (the season four episode "To Beat or Not to Beat" established that she does this on the roof all the time and she sounds really bad) and an unseen person takes a photo of her. The next day, copies of The Inquirer are passed around the school which show embarrassing photos of Francine. All of Francine's friends deny responsibility for this, though they admit that they wish they did it. At the end of the episode, Catherine reveals that she started The Inquirer and she took those photos. She did it so that Francine could feel the way that she was making her friends feel, and so that Francine would not lose her friends. At the end of the episode, Catherine tells Francine that the next day, it will all be yesterday's news and she'll have her friends back.
10. In "The Boy With His Head in the Clouds", what does George have?

Answer: Dyslexia

George cannot read or write very well. Mr. Ratburn discovers that George might have dyslexia. Mr. Ratburn sends George to Mr. Haney, who also has dyslexia. They go to a museum about Leonard da Vinci, who also had dyslexia. When there's a written report due, George does not write it.

Instead, he builds a flying machine similar to one of DaVinci's flying machines. Mr. Ratburn gives him an "A."
11. In "Rhyme For Your Life", who learns how to speak as a poet?

Answer: Binky

Binky wants to write a poem for his mother for Mother's Day, but he cannot think of any rhymes. Fern gives him a book of great poems by great poets to inspire him. He reads it, but he still has trouble writing a poem for his mother. He then falls asleep and has a nightmare where he is in a country where it's a crime not to rhyme. In his nightmare, everyone speaks in rhyme.

When he wakes up, he buys an empty card for his mother. His mother appreciates the gift but he still feels like he let her down. While speaking about he let her down, he unknowingly talks in rhyme all the time. After she points it out to him, he realizes he is addicted to rhyming. He continues to be addicted to rhyming until he speaks to Arthur. When Binky cannot find a rhyme for "Arthur" he is cured. At the end of the episode, Arthur is the one who becomes addicted to rhyming.
12. In "The Good Sport", who is Lakewood Elementary School's athlete of the year?

Answer: Jenna

In this universe, Michelle Kwan is a graduate of Lakewood Elementary and has been a famous figure skater for years. To honor her, Lakewood Elementary creates the Athlete of the Year award for a student athlete. The winner gets to meet Michelle Kwan. Francine is 100% sure that she will win the award and even fantasizes about giving Michelle Kwan a hockey lesson. However, the winner is Jenna.

Francine is a sore loser. She complains to Mr. Haney. He explains that Jenna excels at some sports that Francine does not play, such as skiing and badminton, and she also coaches pee wee soccer and the wheelchair basketball team. Francine then goes to Muffy, literally crying. Muffy starts a petition saying that Francine should win the award, but only Muffy signs it. Even Francine's other friends refuse to sign it. Francine's father tells her to be a good sport. She hates the idea but she reluctantly tries it.

Francine convinces Mr. Ratburn to throw a party for Jenna. At the party, Francine stands on a chair and gives a speech for Jenna in which she pretends to praise Jenna but really insults her. Francine tries to throw another party for Jenna and she and Muffy hang posters in the school to promote it. Jenna tells them to stop and runs away crying. Muffy continues to show no remorse, but Francine finally shows remorse for Jenna. Francine has a dream in which Michelle Kwan teaches her a lesson. Francine wakes up having learned her lesson. The next day, there's a Michelle Kwan poster on her desk with Francine's name written on the bottom. Jenna told Kwan about Francine and got Kwan to sign that poster for her. Francine congratulates Jenna and praises her for being a good sport. The other kids tell Jenna that they saw her on TV and they ask what it was like.
13. In "Crushed", who has a crush on a babysitter?

Answer: Arthur

The Read parents go to an opera and they get a babysitter. The babysitter loves one of Arthur's video games, and together they get further along than either of them ever got on their own. Just when they get to level 12, the Read parents come home so the babysitter has to leave. From then on, Arthur finds more and more fun activities for his parents to do so that they'll bring the babysitter back.

This works, but one day, Arthur discovers that she has a boyfriend. This crushes him (hence the title "Crushed").

In the Sugar Bowl, he tells Buster about her. Buster thinks that he's talking about the video game, yet he gives Arthur some oddly accurate advice. Arthur goes to Buster's house for a sleepover the next night. His mother went out on a date with her new boyfriend, so Buster has a baby sitter.

It's the same babysitter as the one that babysat Arthur because Arthur's parents recommended her. Arthur is mad at first, but then she tells Arthur that Corey does not play video games and she loves playing video games with Arthur.

This cheers Arthur up, so he, Buster, and the babysitter play the game together. They lose. Buster reminds Arthur what he said at the Sugar Bowl. Arthur is astonished to realize Buster was talking about the video game and not about Arthur's heartbreak.
14. In "Arthur Loses His Marbles", who teaches Arthur how to play marbles?

Answer: Grandma Thora

Arthur and Buster play marbles. Buster wins and keeps all of Arthur's marbles except Arthur's shooter. Later, Arthur and D.W. go to Grandma Thora's place. She notices that Arthur has a marble. She tells Arthur how good she used to be at marbles and then shows him some of her marbles. The next day, Arthur plays marbles with Francine and Muffy. When Arthur is down to his last marble, Grandma Thora takes over. She wins the game for Arthur but lets Francine and Muffy keep their marbles.

After this, Grandma Thora coaches Arthur about playing marbles. Arthur ends up beating all of his friends. He then has to play against Grandma Thora. He does not want to upset his grandmother, so he intentionally misses a lot of easy shots in an attempt to let her win. She catches onto him, so she steps into the ring and disqualifies herself and Arthur wins. Arthur does not feel good in the end. He learns that it's better to lose a good game than win a bad one.
15. In "Friday the 13th", who tries to disprove crazy superstitions?

Answer: Brain

Brain refuses to spit on a baseball bat when he is told to do so, and he and his friends lose a game. His friends say that they were unlucky because Brain refused to spit on the bat, but he insists that the other team was just better. The next day, Buster informs Brain of more of the popular superstitions. Brain's attempt to tell Buster that these superstitions have never been proven true fails, because Buster knows that just because something hasn't bene proven true doesn't mean it isn't. The next day, Brain shows his friends the beginning of an experiment. He walks under a ladder, dances on a crack, and breaks a mirror. He hypothesizes that nothing bad will happen.

At dinner, he accidentally drops a knife on the floor. His mother says that now the family will get a male visitor. Brain does not believe that, but then Binky shows up at the door asking for help with his math homework. Brain soon discovers that he left his backpack at school. That night, there is a storm and the roof leaks on Brain's bed. The next morning, Brain wakes up too late to get to school on time, his father accidentally drives over and smashes Brain's bike, Brain falls in the mud while running to school and drops his lunch and math homework (Brain's lunch and homework weren't in his backpack because he had left his backpack at school), a dog eats Brain's homework, and a crow takes Brain's lunch. This is a lot of bad stuff, so Brain begins to believe that these superstitions are true. To make matters worse, Friday the 13th is coming soon.

Brain goes to Buster and asks for some advice. Buster gives Brain a lot of his good luck charms. He takes them, but as soon as he gets home, Brain discovers that his mom is injured. He concludes that the charms didn't work, so he decides to stay home on Friday the 13th. The other kids play another baseball game and they do not do so well at first. At the very end, Brain shows up at the game with a bag. He then spits on the bat and hits the game-winning grand slam while carrying the bag. He thought the bag had all of his good luck charms, but after the game, he discovered he took the wrong bag and he has his mother's gym clothes. He feels thrilled that he proved his hypothesis (he didn't have his good luck charms and he still hit the game-winning grand slam) but the other kids just say that his mother's gym clothes are good luck and they steal some of them.
