Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Looney Tunes character sings "kill the wabbit" in the classic cartoon "What's Opera, Doc?"

Answer: Elmer Fudd

"What's Opera, Doc?" is perhaps the most famous and well-liked Looney Tunes cartoon. Debuting in 1957, the cartoon features Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny in an opera of many Richard Wagner pieces of music, including "Ride of the Valkyries". The most famous line from this cartoon is Fudd singing "kill the wabbit" to the tune of the opera.
2. "Porky's Duck Hunt" marks the debut of which iconic character?

Answer: Daffy Duck

"Porky's Duck Hunt" is a 1937 cartoon directed by Tex Avery that marked the first appearance of Daffy Duck. In this animated short, Daffy resembles more of a normal duck than his usual appearance. He is shorter and walks more like a duck than the larger more famous looking Daffy. The short centers on Porky Pig as he attempts and fails to shoot a duck for his dinner.
3. The first Warner Bros. Academy Award win went to 1947's "Tweetie Pie" which was the first time Tweety and Sylvester met. However, in this cartoon Sylvester went by what other name?

Answer: Thomas

Both Tweety and Sylvester had appeared in cartoons prior to 1947's "Tweetie Pie" but that short marked the first time the two were adversaries. However, in this cartoon Sylvester was called Thomas; this was the only time that name was used for this cat.

He went unnamed in previous appearances. His name was changed to Sylvester to avoid confusion with Tom from "Tom and Jerry" who was also an antagonistic cat. Also in this cartoon, Tweety and Sylvester/Thomas' owner is not seen on screen, as Granny had not yet been introduced.
4. In "Slick Hare", which famous actor wants Elmer Fudd to prepare him a dish of fried rabbit?

Answer: Humphrey Bogart

"Slick Hare" is a classic 1947 cartoon starring Elmer Fudd as a waiter serving Humphrey Bogart. Bogart wants fried rabbit so Elmer must find Bugs Bunny and hunt him down. Hilarity ensues as Fudd, as usual, is outsmarted by Bugs Bunny. "Slick Hare" features a number of famous celebrities and celebrity impersonations including Carmen Miranda and Groucho Marx.
5. In some of his early appearances, Wile E. Coyote would speak to the audience.

Answer: True

Wile E. Coyote spoke in a few of his initial appearances, in particular the ones where he appeared with Bugs Bunny such as 1952's "Operation Rabbit". Notably, he did speak in the 1965 cartoon "Zip-Zip Hooray" where he delivered a monologue about why he keeps chasing the Road Runner. After his early appearance, Wile E. Coyote spoke less and less to the point where he rarely speaks.
6. In "Bully for Bugs", who is Bugs Bunny's titular bully?

Answer: A bull

"Bully for Bugs" is a classic 1953 cartoon where Bugs Bunny gets lost and finds himself as a matador in a Spanish bull ring. A bull name Toro becomes enraged by Bugs, who has many clever ways of dealing with the bull - including an anvil and dynamite.
7. Although not his usual occupation, which character appeared as a sultan in "Hare-Abian Nights", a pirate in "Buccaneer Bunny" and a mountain climber in "Piker's Peak?"

Answer: Yosemite Sam

Yosemite Sam is usually a cowboy/bandit villainous character in many Looney Tunes and Merrie Melody cartoons. However, he has been known take on other roles such as a sultan in 1959's "Hare-Abian Nights", where Bugs Bunny tells him about his past adventures in previous cartoons.

He was also a pirate in "Buccaneer Bunny" in 1948, where he plundered treasure (not unlike his usual cowboy persona). He also was a mountain climber in the 1957 film "Piker's Peak", where he tries to win a cash prize for being the first to climb the Schmatterhorn in the Alps.
8. "Henhouse Henery" was the first cartoon to depict Foghorn Leghorn singing which song which came to be heavily associated with him?

Answer: Camptown Races

In 1949's "Henhouse Henery", Henery Hawk is once again trying to capture a chicken but is constantly foiled by Foghorn Leghorn (nicknamed Foggy in this film). "Henhouse Henery" was the first film to show Foghorn Leghorn sing "Camptown Races" by Stephen Foster.

The folk song would quickly become heavily associated with Foghorn Leghorn and he sang it in nearly every one of his subsequent appearances with only a few exceptions.
9. Speedy Gonzales first appeared in the 1953 cartoon "Cat-Tails for Two" but it was his appeared in 1955's "Speedy Gonzales" where he first appeared with his what?

Answer: Sombrero

In his first appearance, Speedy Gonzales wore a red shirt and had black hair. This was in 1953's "Cat-Tails for Two" and Speedy did not appear in any other cartoons until 1955's "Speedy Gonzales". In that film, Speedy was redesigned to stand out more on screen. He was given a sombrero, a white shirt and shorts and a red ascot.
10. "Haredevil Hare", a cartoon from 1948, marked the first appearance of Marvin the Martian and took place where?

Answer: The moon

"Haredevil Hare" in 1948 was the first appearance of Marvin the Martian who, despite his name, appears to live on the moon and not Mars. In that cartoon, Bugs Bunny is forced into a space ship, shot into space and lands on the moon. He then encounters Marvin the Martian (who is not named) and learns that Marvin intends to blow up the Earth and it is up to Bugs to stop him. Marvin the Martian was simply called the Martian in this short film.

He would not be officially named until 1979 when he appeared in "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie".

Some of his previous names included the Commander and Antwerp.
