1. From 2020 to 2024 state teams won three hockey Stanley Cup trophies

Answer: Florida

Between 2020 and 2024, every National Hockey League championship has featured a team based in Florida, ironic for a state known for their lack of snow and high temperatures. In 2020 and 2021, the Tampa Bay Lightning won the elusive Stanley Cup trophy.

In 2022, the Lightning reached the finals but lost to the Colorado Avalanche. In 2023 and 2024, the Florida Panthers reached the finals and won the trophy in 2024.
2. Home of the first Chick-Fil-A restaurant

Answer: Not Florida

The famous chicken restaurant opened in a shopping center in Atlanta, Georgia in 1967. The fast food restaurant is known for their efficient handling of customers. The name Chick-Fil-A pays homage to their main ingredient, chicken, and the "Fil-A" is a reference to the grade-A quality they try to give their customers.
3. NASA Headquarters

NASA Headquarters is located in Washington D.C. not Florida. While Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas are among the many field centers in the United States, the headquarters has always been in the nation's capital.
4. Where Tom Petty was born

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rock band based out of Gainesville, Florida. The site of the University of Florida was also the birth place of Tom Petty on October 20, 1950. He passed away at the age of 66 in 2017.
5. First state with over two million alligators reported

Florida is home to the Everglades and a huge population of alligators but the state's alligator population isn't even close to Louisiana. In fact, it's estimated that Louisiana has three times the number of gators compared to Florida. Louisiana's conservation efforts and alligator farms have seen the state's number increase exponentially in the last 50 years.
6. Site of the first Sea World theme park

Sea World does have a theme park in Orlando, Florida but it was not the first for the aquatic themed park. The original Sea World was opened in San Diego, California in 1964. Florida's park opened its doors in 1973. It was the third Sea World as Ohio opened the second in Aurora.
7. Went from 29 electoral college votes in 2020 to 30 votes in 2024

Electoral College votes are determined each election by the state's population. In 2024, Florida was worth thirty electoral votes and cast the state's votes for Donald J. Trump in the vote for President. In previous years Florida's electoral votes were worth six in 1920 and 25 in 2000.
8. Abolished state personal income taxes in 1924

Answer: Florida

Many wealthy people including actors and athletes have set up residency in Florida to take advantage of the state's no state income tax rule. In 2024, only nine U.S. states had no state income tax. These other states included Alaska, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.
9. Part of the Confederacy during the US Civil War

On January 10, 1861, Florida officially seceded from the Union and supported the Confederacy army during the Civil War. The southern state provided over 15,000 troops to the army and provided many agricultural crops to the effort. At the same time, many Floridians supported the Union and even used Key West as a Union key port.
10. Site of the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash

Answer: Not Florida

The Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, did form in Florida. But the legendary rockers saw three band members die tragically in a plane crash near Gillsburg, Mississippi. Lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, along with Steve and Cassie Gaines, lost their lives on October 20, 1977.
