Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these films was almost completely lost when a computer code was entered into the editing system?

Answer: Toy Story 2

The first feature film to be edited digitally on computers was in 1992, so feature films released prior to that year could not have suffered this near-tragedy that "Toy Story 2" experienced in 1999. The other films on the list came out in 1985.

When that snafu happened to "Toy Story 2", 90% of the film was deleted. A plan went into action to restore the data from a back-up but the back-up wasn't working properly. Unthinkably, Pixar did not have a back-up on its servers, but then a miracle happened. The film's technical director, Galyn Susman, had recently given birth and so was working from her home with a copy of the film she had made. So, the copy was wrapped in blankets and driven back to the studio.
2. Which two wrestlers were involved in "The Montreal Screwjob", one of the most infamous behind-the-scenes incidents in wrestling history?

Answer: Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Shawn Michaels

The controversial event occurred during a match between Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Shawn Michaels at the 1997 Survivor Series of the World Wrestling Federation (now the WWE). Hart was the WWF Champion since August that year, and was scripted to win his match against Michaels, Without Hart's knowledge, though, WWF owner Vince McMahon orchestrated a different outcome for the match, and instead of ending in a disqualification which would have had Hart maintain his championship, the referee called the match in favor of Michaels.

The shenanigans led to ongoing animosity in the world of the WWF. But of course, there are those who would say that Hart was indeed in on the drama.
3. Rocks and minerals are categorized into three categories based on how they were formed. Which is NOT one of those categories?

Answer: paleovulcanic

All rocks are composed of different combinations of minerals (minerals are made of particles structured in a regular pattern). Igneous rocks are formed by hot magma inside the earth or by lava above ground, then after it cools it's a rock. Sedimentary rocks have grown out of layers of sediment that has settled at the bottom of bodies of water and hardened over time - sediments such as sand, clay, silt. Metamorphic rocks are formed by heat and intense pressure on the minerals found in other rocks.
4. Saturn is famously called the planet with a ring around it, but three other planets actually also have a belt ring around them. Which of these is NOT one of the three other planets with a ring around it?

Answer: Mars

Yes, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune also have rings, but admittedly, Saturn's rings are the biggest and brightest. In the 1970s, it was discovered that those other three giant gas planets had rings. The planetary rings are made up of dust, ice chunks, and rocks.
5. Which of these cliches in Hollywood Westerns was actually extremely rare in actual saloons of the American old wild west?

Answer: Swinging batwing doors

In the old American wild west, saloons weren't much like Hollywood movies depicted them. For starters, it was usually a very narrow building on the corner of a section of establishments, and it had a false front with a two-story façade nailed to the front of its one-story reality. That façade had fake windows on the upper story. Like the movies though, they did have hitching posts out front to tie horses to.

Those swinging batwing doors that the movies show cowboys pushing open as they swagger in were very atypical. It's understandable why they were very rare as they provided neither privacy nor protection from the elements. In reality, the saloon doors were full length, double-hinged and weighted so that they would swing back closed. But even after entering you wouldn't be facing a bar in front of you like in the movies; instead, you would find yourself in a long narrow room with the bar down one side to the left. That was indeed a fancy bar, carved, made of hardwood and polished, and cost more than the building itself. Behind and above the bar there was a long mirror. Along the bottom of the bar was a brass rail with spittoons located on the floor at intervals.
6. Famous for his title role in TV's "Magnum, P.I.", which of these is NOT true about actor Tom Selleck?

Answer: Avocados are his favorite food

Although actor Tom Selleck owns an avocado farm, he has said that he hates the taste of avocados.

He is friends with former secretary of state Colin Powell. He is a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was "awarded" the Razzie worst in film, for playing King Ferdinand in "Christopher Columbus: The Discovery"; his daughter buried that award in a secret location. For the record, he does not wear Hawaiian shirts, which were his Magnum, P.I. character's trademark, nor would play a cameo in a remake, saying, "They often pay the original actor for a cameo so the audience knows it's OK, but I ain't gonna do that."
7. In what country did the Joseon dynasty rule for five centuries?

Answer: Korea

The Joseon Dynasty in Korea began in 1392 A.D. in Korea, and its first king was the military commander Yi Seong-gye from the state Goryeo which is how Korea got its name, when the country underwent a broader unification of its territory. Yi Seong-gye allied himself with followers of Confucius and infused his teachings in Korean society. Over the following few centuries, the Dynasty was weakened by repeated invasions by Japan and China, until internal power struggles and rebellions brought an end to the Dynasty as Japan began controlling Korea in 1897 A.D.
8. How did The Gobbledy Gooker make his famously disappointing debut at the WWF (World Wrestling Federation) in 1990?

Answer: He hatched out of an egg

The highly anticipated Gobbledy Gooker WWF mascot character debuted at the 1990 Survivor Series, dressed in a giant, colorful turkey costume. However, the comedic gimmick turned out to be a huge disappointment to fans, after all the hype that preceded as a large egg was displayed on various occasions with the promise of a revelation of the character. It was intended to be wrestling's version of baseball's San Diego Chicken, and former wrestler Hector Guerrero was recruited to play him. But when he hatched, the fans were underwhelmed and booed mercilessly.
9. The mask that the evil character Michael Myers wears in "Halloween" (1978) was creatively manipulated, adapted from a mask of whom?

Answer: Star Trek's Captain Kirk

Director John Carpenter asked the film's production designer and editor Tommy Lee Wallace to find a creepy mask for the killer, so Mr. Wallace visited a magic shop on Hollywood Boulevard. In the Netflix series "The Movies That Made Us", Wallace explained that on the shelves there were full face masks of Richard Nixon, and then "down at the end was Mr. Spock. And right next to it was this blank face Captain Kirk." So, he bought the Kirk mask and an Emmett Kelly clown mask.

The crew found the clown mask to indeed be creepy but just not enough. So, Wallace took the William Shatner/Captain Kirk mask, enlarged the eyeholes, removed the eyebrows and sideburns, painted the face white and darkened the hair. Shatner's initial reaction upon hearing, was "I thought, 'Is that a joke? Are they kidding?'" He later gave further details explaining that he recognized it as the death mask that the "Star Trek" crew made for him out of clay so that he wouldn't have to be available for the make-up prosthetics put on his face to look old or evil. "So somewhere along the line, someone got that mask and made a mask of it for Halloween [the holiday, not the movie]."
10. The two names of the Twin Towers form the first and last name of which TV show's lead character?

Answer: NewsRadio

Dave and Nelson were the two nicknames given to the Twin Towers because they were the names of David and Nelson Rockefeller, and it was those two men that backed the World Trade Center building project. On the sitcom "NewsRadio" (1995-1999), actor Dave Foley (from "Kids in the Hall"), played David Nelson the manager of a news radio station. According to the show's creator Paul Simms, it is just a coincidence that over the show's opening credits, Dave Foley's name appears superimposed over a shot of the Twin Towers.

The lead character of "24' is Jack Bauer, Don Draper is the lead on "Mad Men" and Fox Mulder is "The X-Files" lead male.
