Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Confronted with the possibility of being in the crosshairs of another killer, who of these simply leaves amidst the killings at Windsor College in "Scream 2"?

Answer: Gale's cameraman

Taking place not long after the Woodsboro Massacre that acted as the plot of "Scream" (1996), "Scream 2" (1997) followed Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott as she was followed by yet another serial killer bearing the same 'Ghostface' mask in her college years. Close enough to home, the event brought back Courteney Cox's Gale Weathers and David Arquette's Dewey Riley as they once again teamed up to unmask the villain(s) and survive.

At a pivotal moment in the second act, meta-savvy survivor Randy Meeks (played by Jamie Kennedy) was finally nabbed by the killer and murdered in the back of Gale's news-van. Her cameraman, Joel, decided immediately after that it wasn't worth hanging around and suffering the same fate as Gale's original cameraman. He returned at the end of the film, once the killers were taken care of. Honestly? Very fair decision.
2. Marty, one of the techs who supports the parapsychology team in "Poltergeist" (1982), leaves the haunting early after witnessing which of these crawling across the kitchen counter?

Answer: A steak

After the Freeling family encounters the spirits from the other side and Carol Anne goes missing across the spectral threshold, a team of parapsychologists led by Dr. Martha Lesh steps in to document the haunting in the 1982 Spielberg/Hooper film "Poltergeist", and in doing so they also become prey to the horrifying events that befall the house built on an ancient Indian burial ground.

Marty has his moment when he steps into the kitchen to grab something to eat, pulling out a steak and leaving it on the countertop. He turns away for a second and when he looks back, he spots it crawling across the surface on its own before bursting into a pile of maggots. In the pantry, he looks at himself in the mirror before tearing at his own face, revealing the skeleton underneath. Suffice to say, after this vision, he ends up leaving the house and not coming back with Dr. Lesh and, inevitably, spiritual medium, Tangina, who finally brings Carol Anne back from beyond the veil.
3. In "Friday the 13th Part 2", people manage to avoid getting killed by Jason Voorhees because they do what instead?

Answer: Stay at the bar

Taking place five years after the events of "Friday the 13th" (1980), "Part II" saw the inevitable reopening of Camp Crystal Lake which had already faced the drowning of a young boy back in the 1950s and the massacre of the camp counsellors when they tried to reopen the first time (at the hands of Pamela Voorhees). This second part is another exercise in futility; this time Jason himself, who never actually drowned, returns to dispatch the new counsellor crop.

Except for those who get out while it's still safe. The night before the counsellors are set to start their training, their boss tells them to go have a night at the local bar. Some of them decide to stay and, honestly, it's the best call. Those who don't stumble back to Camp Crystal Lake avoid getting killed altogether.
4. In the 2014 film "The Taking of Deborah Logan", who leaves the project once Deborah levitates?

Answer: Gavin

In this movie made by first-time director Adam Robitel, a group of film student documentarians embark on a shoot that involves chronicling elderly people afflicted with Alzheimer's, but when they come across Deborah Logan, they unknowingly unearth a much darker situation involving an ancient ritual. Chronicled as a found footage movie, it's actually a well-regarded (and well-reviewed) possession tale that found its audience in the early days of video-on-demand services.

Gavin, one of the students involved in the film, seems to have his wits about him once things get really weird. After encountering inexplicable paranormal events, voices, and Deborah Logan levitating, and after getting shot at, Gavin bails. It's the right move; things get worse.
5. The luxury market of human meat is on the menu in "Fresh" (2022). Paul, who goes searching for Mollie (who, in turn, is searching for Pennie), turns tail and runs when he encounters which of these at their location?

Answer: Gunshots

It's Daisy Edgar-Jones' Noa who falls into the trap laid by Steve (played by Sebastian Stan), a man who she meets in the grocery store and goes on a few dates with in "Fresh". Before long, the two of them head up to his remote cabin and - surprise, surprise - he actually kidnaps women, takes their organs and body parts, and auctions them off to the highest elite bidders. Once her friend Mollie (played by Jonica T. Gibbs) goes looking for her, she too gets captured.

It's Mollie's friend, Paul, who goes on the hunt for Mollie, who leaves enough breadcrumbs to lead him out to Steve's cabin. When he arrives, however, the girls are already making their great escape. Gunfire from this chase leads him to believe it's not worth letting himself get caught in the crossfire, so he peels out altogether. Fortunately, the captives are able to fend for themselves.
6. Dr. Fredrichs is one of the only characters, besides Katie and Micah, to appear in this movie, but he leaves as soon as he senses the evil in their home. What independent 2009 release was this?

Answer: Paranormal Activity

At the time one of the most profitable independent films of all time, "Paranormal Activity" featured the story of Micah and Katie, both of whom chronicled the odd events taking place in their San Diego home on a handheld camera over the course of three weeks. What they found, as this took place, was that nothing could seem to abate the demonic force growing in power on their property.

Amongst the footage, Micah and Katie can be seen speaking to a paranormal specialist, Dr. Fredrichs, who warns them not to engage with the entity under any circumstances. Micah, naturally, takes every opportunity to attempt contact, not that it would have mattered, as the sequels indicated. By the time Dr. Fredrichs returns late in the film, he steps in their front door, senses that things have escalated, and immediately leaves. A couple of days later, things hit a breaking point.
7. To avoid the spread of the flesh-eating virus in "Cabin Fever" (2002), Jeff grabs a case of beer and heads out into the woods. Does he survive the film?

Answer: No

While his friends are dispatched, gruesomely, by both the virus and the townspeople living near their remote cabin vacation spot, Jeff decides to get away from the situation and ride it out in the forest as, by that point, their only real exist strategy has been wiped out. In the meantime, Paul, Karen, Bert, and Marcy either become violently ill or outright killed as a result of the virus which, after their encounter with a sick, homeless man, has spread due to a body in the nearby reservoir.

Jeff does manage to survive the proceedings, but when he returns to the cabin and witnesses the aftermath, his celebration is met with a gunshot. The police arrive, shoot him in the head, and burn his bodies with his friends' to avoid spreading the infection. Unfortunately for the town, the reservoir is still an unknown problem.
8. Paranormal events start to befall the Lambert family in "Insidious" (2010) and it turns out that which of the following is actually haunted?

Answer: Their son

As their encounters with ghostly figures in their new home increases, the Lamberts decide to move out altogether at the end of "Insidious'" first act, a choice that most people in such a situation would be quite wise to make. The problem is that even their new home starts to bear these encounters in greater severity.

What they come to discover is that their eldest boy, Dalton, is the key factor. In a coma after their earlier encounters, it's revealed that he has inherited his father's susceptibility to evil beings from another realm known as 'The Further', a fact left buried in his subconscious after events handled in his youth. It means calling in Elise Rainier (played by Lin Shaye), who might be the only one who can bring Dalton back and save the Lamberts from a dark fate.
9. After the events of Wes Craven's "The Hills Have Eyes" (1977), Bobby Carter, one of the only survivors, still suffers trauma of what occurred. Who, in the sequel (released in 1985), recommends that he go back to Nevada, where said events occurred?

Answer: His psychiatrist

In the first "The Hills Have Eyes" film, the Carters, out on a road trip to the West Coast with their trailer, end up getting waylaid in the Nevada desert and it doesn't end up going all too well. The why comes in the form of a family of cannibals out in the middle of nowhere who take advantage of the situation to attack the Carters. Only a few of them survive.

The sequel, which takes place several years later, begins with Bobby Carter getting into a situation that has him, possibly, heading back to the same stretch of Nevada desert where his family was viciously killed, and worse still, his psychiatrist suggests heading back. He doesn't, but Ruby (seen in the first film and now known as Rachel), goes back instead. She doesn't survive this one.
10. In "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" (2023), one gentleman, hired to join the boat trip from Varna to London, opts to back out before the ship disembarks due to a series of unfortunate events. Who, as it turns out, is on the boat?

Answer: Dracula

"The Last Voyage of the Demeter" chronicles the events that befall the crew of an ill-fated ship in the loosely-described chapters of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" in which the evil vampire's body is brought from Transylvania to London, taking the fraught passage through the Mediterranean and leaving the crew to face down a seemingly-immortal threat.

Before they even depart, while the cargo is loaded onto the ship, a local sees the emblem of a dragon on one of the crates being handled and, after witnessing a dangerous spate of bad luck, decides to leave. It spares his life, but it puts Clemens, the protagonist, onto the crew list.
