The song "White Christmas" will likely be familiar to you and is the titular song for the 1954 musical "White Christmas'. The original version of the song was actually written for the 1942 film "Holiday Inn". Also sung by Bing Crosby, that version won an Oscar for Best Original Song for "Holiday Inn". Crosby's version of the song "White Christmas" is said to have sold over 50 million copies, making it likely to be the world's best-ever selling single.
The film has Bing Crosby paired with Danny Kaye to form a song-and-dance duo performing around the US after the Second World War. There is romance, misunderstandings and an attempt to help out a retired army general. Another Irving Berlin song "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep" earned the 1954 film an Oscar nomination.

Morris Day of the Time formed Apollonio 6 in the film in order to displace the Kid (portrayed by Prince) and the Revolution.
Three albums were released as a result of the film: the soundtrack album "Purple Rain" (1984) from Prince, "Ice Cream Castle" (1984) by the Time, and "Apollonia 6" (1984) by Apollonia 6 (a band formed by Prince rather than Morris Day). The film won an Oscar for Best Original Song Score and the album was Prince's first to reach the top of the Billboard 200.

The 1999 film "The Talented Mr Ripley" was not the first film adaptation of the 1955 novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith. It was in fact the French 1960 crime thriller "Purple Noon". Tom Ripley is sent to Italy to convince his friend and wealthy playboy to return home, however the playboy has no intention of doing so and Ripley decides on another plan.
The 1999 film has a different ending to the 1960 film, with both differing from the book's ending.
