1. Velvet (1986)

The 1986 neo-noir mystery film takes its name from the 1951 song which is sung at one point in the film. Directed by David Lynch, it stars Kyle MacLachlan as Jeffrey Beaumont, a college student who comes home temporarily and stumbles into a different world. Controversial at the time, it won a variety of awards and has achieved cult status in the years since.

3. Valentine (2010)

By this time Williams had a daughter whom she was unwilling to move so it was filmed in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

This action thriller film from 1983 is about a military spec helicopter being acquired for police surveillance work in Los Angeles. It is given the nickname 'Blue Thunder' and comes complete with advanced capabilities, sensor technology and weapon systems. Unfortunately there is a conspiracy with plans for the helicopter.
5. Streak (1976)

The 1976 comedy thriller "Silver Streak" is set mainly on a train bearing the name Silver Streak. It pairs Gene Wilder with Richard Pryor with an early murder on board setting the scene. It was set on an Amtrak train however as Amtrak objected to some parts of the script, it was filmed in Canada on equipment from "The Canadian" transcontinental passenger train disguised to look like the "Silver Streak".
6. Bullet (1985)

In folklore a silver bullet tends to be the answer to a werewolf problem so it is no surprise that this 1985 horror film has to do with werewolves. The film is an adaptation of Stephen King's 1983 novella "Cycle of the Werewolf". The design of the werewolf suit was relatively plain with one critic (Vincent Canby for "The New York Times") likening the effect to Smokey Bear with a terrible hangover. Everett McGill, who had the role of Reverend Lester Lowe, ended up performing most of the werewolf suit scenes, for which he received credit.
7. Linings Playbook (2012)

The 2012 rom-com drama "Silver Linings Playbook" is based on the 2008 novel by Matthew Quick. Bradley Cooper stars opposite Jennifer Lawrence. Cooper's character is trying to reconcile with his estranged wife using a dance competition as a vehicle for this. Lawrence's character is his dance partner and their relationship develops.
8. Under the ... Lake (2018)

The 2018 film "Under the Silver Lake" is a surrealist black comedy thriller involving an aimless conspiracy theorist trying to track down a disappeared neighbour. The film follows him through his journey which involves meeting Comic Fan, author of the zine "Under the Silver Lake", swimming in Silver Lake Reservoir, Los Angeles, and chasing down hidden messages and coded symbols.
9. Rock West (1993)

A drifter (Nicolas Cage) gets mistaken for a hitman (Dennis Hopper) in this 1993 western film-noir. "Red Rock West" takes place in a rural town called Red Rock which the drifter has arrived in. He gets asked to do a hit and things get complicated when the real hitman turns up. Money seems to be the cause of all the issues. It was a box office flop although it garnered praise from critics.
10. Heat (1988)

There are two films from the 1980s with this title. The 1985 "Red Heat" has Linda Blair's character up against Sylvia Kristel's in an East German women's prison. The better-known 1988 buddy cop comedy film has Arnold Schwarzenegger's Soviet policeman character paired with Jim Belushi as a Chicago police detective to catch a Georgian drug lord.
11. Blood ... Sky (2021)

This 2021 horror vampire film "Blood Red Sky" is also known as "Transatlantic 473" so vampires and a flight to New York are involved in a modern setting. 12. Planet (2000)

The red planet is usually a reference to Mars and so it is in this 2000 sci fi action film "Red Planet". Starring Val Kilmer and Carrie-Anne Moss, Mars is being terraformed for habitation but something apparently goes wrong when oxygen levels suddenly go down so a mission is sent to investigate. Things go pear-shaped and it becomes a survival struggle.
