Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Since You Been Gone". Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Cozy Powell

Rainbow was the brainchild of former Deep Purple member Ritchie Blackmore. Blackmore formed the band in 1975. The breakthrough for the band was with their single "Since You've Been Gone" (1979). The song was the lead single from the band's fourth studio album, "Down to Earth". Personnel at that time were Ritchie Blackmore, Cosy Powell, Roger Glover, Don Airey, and Graham Bonnet. The band saw many changes to the personnel over the years, except for Ritchie Blackmore, the only constant member.

Other notable singles from the band were "All Night Long" (1980), "I Surrender" (1981), and "Street of Dreams" (1983). The last time Rainbow performed was on their 2019 European tour, so I think it's now safe to say that's the end of the Rainbow.
2. "Is This Love". David Coverdale, Micky Moody, John Sykes

One of the most prominent bands during the mid to late eighties was Whitesnake, a rock band characterized by power ballads and established by lead vocalist David Coverdale. Among the highest-charting and most frequently played singles of that time were "Still of the Night," "Is This Love," and "Here I Go Again."

The 1980s were a wild time, especially for music. Hair metal ruled the radio; from super-high hair to spandex and more makeup than chicks wore, the gods of metal owned the air waves.
3. "Holiday": Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, Tré Cool

Green Day released the song "Holiday" on 14 March 2005. The song was the third single taken from the band's seventh chart-topping studio album, "American Idiot", released in 2004. Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the song and was the lead vocalist.

The song "Holiday" refers to the American government and culture during the Iraq War. It begins by highlighting that the typical American is unaware of the names of the thousands of fallen Americans and Iraqis.

The lyrics of the song highlight the irony of the Christian right-wing perceiving themselves as religiously justified in this conflict: "Can I get another 'Amen'? There's a flag wrapped around the score of men."
4. "Come and Get Your Love". Pat and Lolly Vegas, Tony Bellamy

Redbone was a pioneering 1970s Native American/Mexican American rock band founded by brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas, known for hits like "Come and Get Your Love" (1974) and "The Witch Queen of New Orleans" (1971). Blending rock with funk, jazz, and Latin influences, the band was formed in 1968 and released their first album, "Redbone", in January 1970.

"Come and Get Your Love" was released in January 1974; it was originally a promotional single released under the title of "Hail". The song was later added to the band's fifth album, "Wovoka", which was released in 1973.

On a personal note, "The Witch Queen of New Orleans" is my favourite song from the band. On the UK Singles Chart, the song peaked at number two, while in the US, it just missed the top twenty on the US Billboard Hot 100.
5. "Radar Love". Rinus Gerritsen, George Kooymans, Barry Hay, Cesar Zuiderwijk

Golden Earring was established in 1961 and maintained the same line-up from 1970 until 2021. In the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, the band frequently performed over 100 shows annually. The band was formed in the Netherlands, where "Radar Love" achieved number one on the Netherlands (Single Top 100). Even after all these years, the song continues to be regarded as a national treasure.

"Radar Love" was on the band's ninth studio album, "Moontan", also from 1973. The single version of "Radar Love" became their first international hit, reaching number nine on the Record World chart, number ten on Cash Box, and peaking at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. It hit the top ten in many countries, including the United Kingdom singles chart, Canada, Australia, Germany, and Spain.
6. Album: "You Get What You Give". John Driskell Hopkins, Coy Bowles, Chris Fryar

The Zac Brown Band is a country music group hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. The band was established by Zac Brown in 2002. In 2008, they launched their debut major studio album, "The Foundation", which achieved the second position on the US Top Country Albums (Billboard). Their subsequent album, "You Get What You Give", reached the number one position on both the US Billboard 200 and US Top Country Albums (Billboard).

Throughout the years, the band has consistently maintained a position within the top ten on the U.S. charts. Renowned for their popular songs such as "Chicken Fried," "Toes," "Colder Weather," and "Knee Deep," the Zac Brown Band has received numerous Grammy Awards, filled stadiums across the globe, and contributed to the redefinition of contemporary country music.
7. "Don't Fear the Reaper". Eric Bloom, Albert Bouchard, Joe Bouchard

The song "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" can be found on the band's fourth 1976 studio album, "Agents of Fortune". The song, written and performed by lead guitarist Donald Roeser, also known as Buck Dharma, examines themes of death and eternal love. Dharma imagined it as he envisioned his own premature death.

Within the heavy metal genre, Blue Öyster Cult was considered a "cult" band because of their complex and often confusing lyrics that delve into supernatural themes. Fans of the band realised that, like Black Sabbath, BÖC combined great musicianship with fanciful lyrics that might not be to everyone's taste.

"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" was recorded in 1975 and released in 1976 on the Columbia label. On the charts, the song peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100, while in the UK it reached number 16 on the Singles Chart.
8. Album: "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion". Chris and Rich Robinson, Marc Ford, Johnny Colt

The Black Crowes are an American rock band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1984, although they were known as Mr. Crowe's Garden between 1984 and 1989. The band has seen several line-up changes over the years, with only the brothers Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson having been in the band from the start.

"Shake Your Money Maker" is the band's debut album, which came out in 1990. In 1992, the band released their second studio album, "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion", which peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart and at the top of the US Billboard 200 rankings.

Chris Robinson, the lead singer, is recognised for his heartfelt and passionate performances, many of which showcased his remarkable singing abilities. Robinson's lyrics often explore themes of sadness and soul-searching, including topics such as addiction, love, and loss.
9. "Moves Like Jagger": Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichae, James Valentine, Matt Flynn

Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band from Los Angeles, California, originally known as Kara's Flowers between 1994 and 2001. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Adam Levine, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, lead guitarist James Valentine, drummer Matt Flynn, keyboardist PJ Morton, and bassist and keyboardist Sam Farrar.

All these members were present on the band's smash hit song "Moves Like Jagger", with Christina Aguilera featuring on the song. "Moves Like Jagger" topped the charts in several countries, including the US and UK, in 2011. The song was written in a joint effort between Adam Levine, Benny Blanco, Ammar, and Malik Shellback. I can't believe it was 15 years ago; it seems like yesterday!

On July 8, 2011, Jonas Åkerlund directed the song's music video, which was shot in Los Angeles. Archival footage of the Rolling Stones frontman is shown in the backdrop as we see Jagger impersonators, such as Adam Levine, perform their best dance skills. Unfortunately, Christina Aguilera did not dance like Jagger during her act, despite everyone's expectations.
10. "Rip It Up". Edwyn Collins, Malcolm Ross, Zeke Manyika

Originally Orange Juice were called The Nu-Sonics; they changed their name to Orange Juice in 1976. The band was formed in the Glasgow suburb of Bearsden, Scotland. The band played a mixture of post-punk, new wave, jangle pop and indie pop.

Orange Juice's "Rip It Up" was released on February 7, 1983. The song was a pioneering UK Top Ten single, reaching number eight on the UK Singles Chart, that marked a transition from post-punk to disco-influenced sophisti-pop. It is significant for being among the earliest pop songs to incorporate the Roland TB-303 synthesiser. Despite the popularity of this title track, it was the Scottish band's sole Top 40 hit. Personnel on the song were Edwyn Collins, Malcolm Ross, Zeke Manyika and David McClymont.

Orange Juice was active from 1979 to 1985. In 2008, the original line up of the band came together for a public performance. During their brief career, the band produced three studio albums, which achieved minimal success.
