Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A Dutch band which had one major global hit. The song title was the name of a Roman goddess. And of a planet too. Which is this band?

Answer: Shocking Blue

Shocking Blue were active between 1968 and 1974. Their 1970 hit "Venus" was a chart-topper in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Spain and the USA, and came close on many other countries - including their alma mater of Holland. None of the others made it near as big though.
2. A Scottish band named after a Steely Dan track. Among their hits you'll find "Real Gone Kid". Which is this band?

Answer: Deacon Blue

As of 2015, Deacon Blue is still active. As years went by their material swayed from pop-rock to the alternative, enabled by their healthy fan base. The Steely Dan song in question is "Deacon Blues" out of their album "Aja" (1977).
3. An English band which pioneered in the introduction of classic and orchestral music into rock. They NEVER recorded a track named "Nights In Blue Satin", but that should lead you close enough. Which is this band?

Answer: The Moody Blues

Since their inception in 1964, The Moody Blues have excelled in multiple genres of rock and their contribution and influence cannot be overstated, for example their album "In Search of the Lost Chord" (1968) - a cornerstone of psychedelic rock. The classic "Nights In White Satin" is from their masterpiece LP "Days Of Future Passed" (1967).
4. A Scottish band. Admittedly not a very known one but the fact that it is named after an African geographic feature should help you colour it properly. Which is this band?

Answer: The Blue Nile

5. A Swiss electro-pop band with a colourful sounding name. Their major acclaim and success came in the 1980s, however money was never an issue since one of its members is a millionaire. Which is this band?

Answer: Yello

As of 2015, Yello are still in existence. Their album "You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess" (1983) was a showcase of innovation in sound and beat. The millionaire in question is vocalist Dieter Meier, born to a rich Zürich family who also made a living out of poker and golf.

9. An American rock band which started its life in 1967 as Soft White Underbelly, a name that was changed in 1971. Keep calm and don't fear the reaper. Which band is it?

Answer: Blue Öyster Cult

10. A mixed Dutch-English avant-garde band. Their vocalist's pseudonym is Edward Ka-Spel. Which is this band?

Answer: The Legendary Pink Dots

Pink, for a change. Founded in 1980, The Legendary Pink Dots have served as a major torch carrier between 1960s psychedelia and late 1980s neo-psychedelia. Do try them at home.
