When you're talking about incredible vocalists, Mariah Carey and Steve Perry of Journey will be names high on many lists. Journey took "Open Arms" to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981 and it became the biggest chart topping hit for the American band. Mariah Carey grew up loving the song and released her cover in late 1995 in English and also a Spanish version called "El Amor Que Sone".

"Bizarre Love Triangle" was released in 1986 by New Order and ranked in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the Top 500 Songs of all-time at number 204. The original band followed Joy Division after the death of lead singer Ian Curtis. In 2001, the soundtrack of "Not Another Teen Movie" had current rock/alternative artists covering some of the greatest hits of the 1980s. Stabbing Westward's cover of "Bizarre Love Triangle" added in an industrial pop-rock vibe and stands the test of time as a fun cover of a classic.

"Careless Whisper" was released on Wham!'s second album "Make It Big". Yungblud's debut album was released in 2018. In just a few years, he's become an international superstar. "The Fall Guy" starred Ryan Gosling and was an often forgotten film, but the soundtrack opened with Yungblud taking on the KISS class. His version opened with a dramatic reinterpretation and showed reverence to the song with a killer rock rendition to finish. Ozzy became friends of Yungblud and personally invited him to his farewell concert in July 2025. Yungblud owned the crowd with his powerful cover of Black Sabbath's "Changes" that reminded viewers of Queen's Freddie Mercury.

"I've got sunshine on a cloudy day, when it's cold outside I've got the month of May" are the opening lyrics to "My Girl". The song went straight to number one of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965 and became the first for the legendary Temptations. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Otis Redding added a little extra growl and soul in his rendition that actually beat The Temptations version onto the UK Singles Chart in 1965.

While they did record a version, when the song was released by Irish singer Sinead O'Connor on her second album it became her signature song. "Nothing Compares 2 U" was the third best selling song of 1990 in the United States.

Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" was a breath of fresh air in 1988 when released on her debut album. The singer/songwriter had a simple honesty in her delivery and the song became a worldwide hit and multiple Grammy nominated hit. In 2023, Luke Combs took on the Chapman hit, and the romantic lyrics of driving, being in love, and inspiration stood the test of time. Combs won the County Music Award for Song of the Year, an award that also went to Tracy Chapman for writing the hit.
