Jimmy Buffett found the inspiration for this legendary track in an organically Parrothead fashion. He was sitting at a bar with fellow Coral Reefers in Key West. Coincidentally, a beauty pageant just happened to be in town and the contestants were at the bar. Alongside co-writers Keith Sykes and Coral Reefer Band members Deborah McColl and Barry Chance, Buffett spent the evening observing the largely obnoxious and unsuccessful "land shark" mating rituals of male tourists.

Released in 1979 on the album "Volcano," the track grew into a beloved monster of a live show event, even though it only reached number 66 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was the most stunning example of being a Parrothead. Everyone knew it was time for "Fins" when the band broke out the main title theme from "Jaws". For those of you that are not familiar, "Fins" was defined by a mandatory audience ritual where fans put their hands above their heads to sway side-to-side in rhythm with the lyrics directing the crowd to go "Fins to the Left, Fins to the Right." Watching 20,000 plus people do this as a synchronized, beverage-fueled ritual is a great visual for the word 'unforgettable'.
