Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

"Pinetop's Boogie Woogie" (1928) is considered by many music historians as being the first modern boogie hit. The style became less popular in the 1930s, before making a comeback in the 1940s. In 1941 "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" was released by The Andrews Sisters. After making its debut in the Abbott and Costello film "Buck Privates". The Recording Industry Association of America ranked it as the sixth on their best songs of the twentieth century list in 2001. The instrumental "Boogie- Woogie Etude" was composed and released by composer Martin Gould in 1943. His goal was to bridge classical music to the popular jazz genre. Jose Iturbi recorded first the song that has been covered many times since its debut.

The Boogie-Woogie style continued to grow in popularity and crossed many genres from blues to gospel. For example, in 1951, "The Rhumba Boogie" was recorded by country star Hank Snow. It combined the Cuban beat of the rhumba, with a country sounding melody. It was the number one song on the country charts for eight weeks.

With the disco craze of the seventies, the boogie-woogie style of music had another resurgence. Disco group KC and the Sunshine Band had big hits with their songs "Boogie Shoes" (1975) and "I'm Your Boogie Man" (1976). The former song gained popularity after appearing in the movie "Saturday Night Fever" and the latter soon reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Boogie showed its international appeal when the female Spanish disco duo Baccara released "Yes Sir I can Boogie" in 1977. It became the flamenco dancers turned singers only number one hit when it reached that position on the UK Singles Chart. The disco group A Taste of Honey had one of the most successful disco songs of the seventies with "Boogie Oogie Oogie" (1978). The platinum single reached number one on Billboard's Hot 100, soul and disco charts. In 1979, Earth Wind and Fire released "Boogie Wonderland." Although the band is known for its multi-genre style, not just disco, this boogie song was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Disco Recording and won a Grammy for Best R and B Instrumental Performance.

Songs from other genres in the seventies that include the boogie style were "Casino Boogie" by The Rolling Stones (1972), "Jungle Boogie" (1973) by the funk band Kool and the Gang and the song "Blame it on the Boogie" (1978) by the pop group The Jackson Five.

In 1991 a boogie-woogie style song once again climbed up the country charts when Brooks and Dunn released "Boot Scootin' Boogie". It reached number one on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and crossed over to appear on the Hot 100 chart. The song once again confirmed the wide appeal of boogie-woogie music, and it even sparked a revived interest in line dancing.

The five made up titles are "Beach Baby Boogie" (1966), "The Bluegrass Banjo Boogie" (1963) "Boogie Woogie All Night Long" (1977), "Boogie 'Round the Clock", and "East Coast Boogie".
