"Letter to You" was recorded in late 2019 with Bruce and the E Street Band hitting the studio together for a week in November, and by the time the record was released, the world would have been in lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic for the better part of a year. It may have been the perfect timing for the album which, kicking itself off with "One Minute You're Here", mused on the idea of finality and memory in the way that only The Boss could do.

While Bruce planned to take the album on tour, the plans were obviously marred by the state of the world at the time. By the time he was back on the road in 2023, he'd already released his next album, "Only the Strong Survive".

Tiye queued up this song for this iteration of the Setlist.

Answer: Suspect Device

While all of the song choices here were debut singles and all from Irish rock or punk bands, "Suspect Device" kicked off radio play for the Belfast group known as Stiff Little Fingers, who came up in the local scene during a particularly fraught time in Northern Ireland's history (specifically, The Troubles). Encouraged to create music inspired by their experiences growing up with The Troubles as a backdrop, "Suspect Device" was created and peaked at number seventeen on the UK Indie Chart. It would become a key fixture in concerts and on their first album, "Inflammable Material".

Stiff Little Fingers would cross into the mainstream a year later, releasing "Nobody's Heroes" based on the success of their debut album.

As for the other choices, "Teenage Kicks" came from The Undertones, "Dark Streets of London" was The Pogues, and "Liberty Belle" was by Fontaines D.C.

Answer: While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Commonly regarded as the signature George Harrison song while the Beatles were still together, the track still had all four members of the band, but uncharacteristically featured George as the lead (with McCartney on harmonizing vocals). Originally the band wasn't particularly interested in recording the song; it's why George invited Eric Clapton to provide his input at the time. It would become one of the most enduring tracks from the band, often celebrated as one of the many retrospective hits of the "White Album". Harrison would also receive great critical regard, in later years, for "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun", which he also wrote.

Harrison and Clapton would remain friends and collaborators until Harrison's death, of cancer, in 2001.

Answer: All Comes Crashing

Written during the COVID-19 lockdown, "Formentera" (2022) highlighted anxiety as a core theme, building the band's indie rock stylings into synth-heavy, concert-ready tracks that felt like the natural evolution to their earlier return to rock form in 2018's "Art of Doubt". While "All Comes Crashing" was the first single and the second song on the album, it acted as the middle part of a trio, with the ten-plus minute "Doomscroller" acting as a heavy concert opener and "What Feels Like Eternity" being the short-and-sweet propulsive number.

A year after the release of "Formentera", Metric released a sequel album, "Formentera 2", with a set of accompanying tracks that were, at least, a little more optimistic in nature.

Answer: Jesus Built My Hotrod

By the time "Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs" came out in 1992, Ministry had already staked their spot in the industrial/hard rock sphere with moderately-received tracks in the 1980s (which appeared on the Dance Singles Chart in the U.S., incorporating much more than what one would traditionally consider 'dance music' at the time). "Psalm 69", as an album, changed things. With alternative rock leaning more into grunge and heavy metal gaining more repute, it allowed Ministry to jet up into the album charts in earnest.

"Jesus Built My Hotrod" was one of the first bigger tracks for the group, and one that appeared with substantial radio play. It would reach number nineteen on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart while their next single, "N.W.O.", would hit number eleven. Butthole Surfers would be transitioning from indie charts to the traditional charts at the same time, taking a record deal with Capitol as "Jesus Built My Hotrod" was hitting the airwaves.

It's because of Apathy100 that we have this propulsive rock track playing in the Setlist.

Answer: Monkey Grip Glue

Wyman, the drummer for the Stones from the 1960s to the 1990s, was part of the band lineup as it was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (in 1989) and he contributed to nearly twenty of their studio albums until his departure in 1993. He also released a number of studio albums-- more than the other Stones-- throughout this time, using these as an opportunity to showcase not only music that the band wouldn't take on, but his own vocals. "Monkey Grip Glue", appearing on the "Monkey Grip" album in 1974, was his second single.

"Leather Jacket" was Mick Taylor, "Just Another Night" was Mick Jagger, and "Take It So Hard" was from Keith Richards; all three of these were from their first solo albums without the Stones, released in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Answer: "The Girl From Ipanema" - Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz

A jazzy track with Portuguese lyrics, "The Girl From Ipanema" is one of those songs that most have heard, if not because it won the Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965, then because it's become somewhat synonymous for being easy listening muzak-- they type you might hear in an elevator or played to jokey effect in a movie.

While Stan Getz was an American musician, Astrud Gilberto, the vocalist of the original version, was born in Salvador, Brazil. Salvador is, of course, quite far from Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro.

As for the rest, "Copacabana" released in 1978, "Rio" came out in 1982, and The Offspring's "Come to Brazil" was a 2024 track.

Answer: Waymaker

Smith started his career in music in 1983 and became a mainstay in contemporary Christian recordings for decades; by the time the 1990s came around, his consistent album releases were going Platinum in the U.S. In fact, his albums were so frequently at the top of the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart that he vied for the record of having the most such albums during this period (along with Amy Grant).

"Waymaker" was a cover of a worship song originally released by Nigerian singer Sinach back in 2015. Smith rerecorded it a few years later as a result of his daughter's love for the song, bringing in Vanessa Campagna and Madelyn Berry for vocals (the former of whom recorded an Italian version during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Answer: Off the Wall

Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson first met in 1978 while the two of them were working on the musical film "The Wiz", and from there, a partnership was born, sending Jackson's pop career into the stratosphere and making Jones one of the most sought-after producers in the music industry. The pair would end up collaborating not only on "Off the Wall" in 1979, but on "Thriller" in 1982 and "Bad" in 1987.

Jackson would change his team for "Dangerous" in 1991, releasing tracks like "Black or White" and "Remember the Time" as part of that album and sustaining his supremacy on the charts. Jones, meanwhile, would remain in the entertainment industry pursuing a number of ventures besides just music production, being celebrated well into the 21st century.

"Off the Wall" was queued up for the Setlist by Leodavinci.

Answer: Walk Like an Egyptian

As silly as this pop song sounds, "Walk Like an Egyptian" became the Billboard Year-End number one single in the U.S. in 1987, topping the charts there, in Canada, Spain, Australia, and the Netherlands.

Although originally shopped to Toni Basil (who stopped recording shortly after), the Bangles acquired the song through their producer, David Kahne, who was brought in to record their sophomore album, "Different Light". This track and "Manic Monday" would help bring the new wave-lite group to their peak, taking the album as a whole to multi-platinum status.
