The modern city of Beersheba is the largest in the Negev desert. In Biblical times it marked the southern extent of ancient Israel. The earliest mention is in Genesis 21. Abimelech changed his mind after God came to him in a dream.

The modern-day city of Hebron in Palestine has a long history going back to at least the early Bronze Age. First mention is at Genesis 13:18 when Abram moved to dwell in the plain of Mamre in Hebron.

Sodom and Gomorrah are the pair of cities that were destroyed as divine retribution for their wickedness. The story is described in Genesis 19:1-28. Zoar was the name of the city to which Lot and his family escaped.
More usually translated as Ur of the Chaldees in the KJV, Ur Kasdim is a city in Iraq and the birthplace of Abram (later Abraham). There are three mentions of Ur in Genesis. The actual location has several candidates.
