Saul was the first king of Israel. His reign started well, but later in life he appeared to be more concerned about killing David. This even though David was Saul's son-in-law, having married Michal. On top of this, Saul's son Jonathan was David's best friend. Details can be found in various passages in the Old Testament.
After Saul's son Ishbosheth briefly served as king, David was appointed to the position. David, of course, was the young shepherd boy who slayed the Philistine giant Goliath with a slingshot. David is credited with writing much of the content in the Book of Psalms.
Solomon was the son of David and Bathsheba and served as king during Israel's golden age. Solomon is credited with writing much of the content of the Book of Proverbs as well as the Book of Ecclesiastes and the Song of Songs.
Rehoboam was the son of Solomon and Naamah and replaced his father as king of Israel. However, it was during Rehoboam's reign that things started to fall apart for the Jewish nation. It was under his reign the nation split into two nations -- Israel and Judah. After the split, Rehoboam was the king of Judah.
Ahab was the king of Israel and is portrayed in Scripture in a very negative light for leading the nation away from God to worshipping Baal. Ahab's wife Jezebel is regarded as one of most wicked women in the Bible.
Hezekiah served as king of Judah, being crowned when he was 25 years old. He reigned over the nation for 29 years in Jerusalem.
Omri was the sixth king of Israel. It was under his reign the boundaries of the nation were extended through military battles.
There are two kings with the name Joash, or Jehoash, in the Old Testament. One served as king of Judah and other as king of Israel.
Jehu served as the tenth king of Israel, reigning for 28 years.
Jehoshaphat was the son of Asa and reigned as the fourth king of Judah.
Meanwhile, Ezra, Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Malachi were all prophets and have books in the Old Testament named after them. However, none of the men ever served as king.
