Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which book of the Old Testament comes immediately AFTER Deuteronomy?

Answer: Joshua

The book of Joshua is the sixth book of the Old Testament and immediately follows Deuteronomy. It tells the story of Joshua leading the Israelites into the Promised Land after the death of Moses. One interesting fact about the book of Joshua is that it contains the story of the battle of Jericho, where the Israelites marched around the city for seven days before the walls came tumbling down.
2. What book of the Old Testament comes immediately before Proverbs?

Answer: Psalms

Psalms is a collection of poems and hymns. The book is divided into five sections, each ending with a praise to God. Psalms is the longest book of the Old Testament and contains 150 individual psalms, many of which were written by King David. The book covers a wide range of themes, including praise, thanksgiving, lament, and wisdom. Even pop culture has used Psalms as U2 recorded the song "40" based on Psalm 40.
3. What book, the most famous of those listed, comes immediately BEFORE Hosea?

Answer: Daniel

Daniel was a prophet of God and the book contains stories such as Daniel in the lion's den and the fiery furnace. Daniel includes prophecies about the coming of the Messiah and the end of the world. Interestingly, the book of Daniel is written in two languages, Hebrew and Aramaic, and is one of the few books in the Bible that is not written entirely in Hebrew.
4. What book comes right after Genesis?

Answer: Exodus

Exodus is the second book of the Old Testament in the Bible. It continues the story of the Israelites, who are now enslaved in Egypt, and introduces Moses as their leader. We read about the parting of the Red Sea, the ten plagues of Egypt, how to build a tabernacle, and the Ten Commandments in the book of Exodus.

The word "exodus" comes from the Greek word meaning "departure", which is what the Israelites did out of Egypt.
5. What book with a female's name comes immediately before Job?

Answer: Esther

Esther is a book in the Old Testament that tells the story of a Jewish queen who along with her cousin Mordecai saves her people from genocide from Haman's plot. It is one of only two books in the Bible named after a woman, the other being Ruth. Esther is also unique in that it never explicitly mentions God, leading some scholars to question whether it should be included in the official canon of scripture.
6. Which prophet's book is found immediately AFTER Isaiah?

Answer: Jeremiah

Jeremiah is the book found immediately following Isaiah in the Old Testament. Jeremiah contains prophecies written during the time of the Babylonian exile. Jeremiah warned the people of Judah of the impending destruction of Jerusalem. The book also contains some of Jeremiah's personal prayers and lamentations.

Interestingly, the book of Jeremiah is one of the longest books in the Old Testament, with a total of 52 chapters.
7. Which Old Testament book FOLLOWSs Joel?

Answer: Amos

Amos was a shepherd and fig farmer who lived in the southern kingdom of Judah. He was called by God to prophesy to the northern kingdom of Israel during the reign of King Jeroboam II. Amos was considered one of the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament.

They got this description not because of the importance of their writing but rather from the brevity of the book. The prophecies in Amos were focused on social justice and the need for Israel to repent and turn back to God. One of his most famous quotes is "But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!" (Amos 5:24 KJV).
8. What book immediately FOLLOWS Leviticus?

Answer: Numbers

Numbers is the fourth book in the Old Testament. The book is not a collection of math problems but rather it is named from two censuses taken during the Israelites forty year journey in the wilderness before reaching the promised land of Canaan. Their wandering partly due to their lack of faith in God after sending spies to Canaan and getting bad reports. Only Joshua and Caleb, the two spies who gave good reports, were allowed to enter the promised land from the initial group.
9. 2 Chronicles comes directly after 1 Chronicles.

Answer: True

Yes, originally both books were written as one large book called the "Words Of The Day" but Greek translators broke them up into separate books of the Old Testament. 1 Chronicles captured the genealogy all the way from Adam until King Saul. Then the book discussed the beginning of the reign of King David. 2 Chronicles continued the listing of the lineage of kings.

The book discussed in depth King Solomon's reign and all of the lineage up until their Babylonian exile.
10. Little twist for the last question, what Bible book comes very last in the Old Testament of the King James Bible?

Answer: Malachi

Like a coming attraction for a new movie, Malachi gives a wonderful prophesy in the last book of the King James Bible's Old Testament. Malachi was also considered one of the twelve minor prophets. In the book we read about the coming of "Elijah the prophet" to prepare the way for the Lord before the Day of Judgment.

As we progress into the New Testament, we see the coming of Jesus Christ in the book of Matthew.
