Your challenge is to list the ten plagues in order, from first to last. Take the name of the plague at the right of your screen and correctly link it up with the number at the left. Usually I give Scripture verses as a clue for each question, but in this quiz it would be a dead giveaway to do so. The ten plagues are documented in order in Exodus 7 through Exodus 12. Keep smiling and may God richly bless. David in Canada.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nile River turned into blood

Out of the ten plagues unleashed on Egypt, the turning of the Nile River into blood was the first. In addition to the Nile, all water in Egypt ended up being turned into blood. Or as Exodus 7:19 states, water "both in buckets of wood and pitchers of stone" was turned into blood.

According to Scripture, the plagues were unleashed to convince the Pharaoh to give approval to the Israelites to leave the country and migrate to Canaan, the Promised Land.

For details about the first plague, see Exodus 7:14-25.
2. Plague of frogs

The second plague to be unleashed on Egypt was the plague of frogs. According to Scripture, God sent a massive number of frogs out of the Nile River with buildings, homes and even the royal palace being overrun by the slimy creatures.

The Pharaoh claimed to have a change of heart and told Moses the Israelites could leave the country after the frogs were removed.

However, once the frogs were gone, the Pharaoh hardened his heart and announced the Israelites were forbidden from leaving Egypt.

For details, see Exodus 8:1-15.
3. Plague of lice

The third plague Egyptians had to endure was the plague of lice. According to Scripture, all the dust in Egypt was miraculously transformed into lice. The torture of the people must've been immense. On top of this, all the animals in Egypt were afflicted with lice.

For details, see Exodus 8:16-19.
4. Plague of flies

After the plague of lice, the Egyptians had to endure the plague of flies.

Apart from the Israelites, no one was immune from the suffering. Scripture states, "Thick swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh, into his servants' houses, and into all the land of Egypt. The land was corrupted because of the swarms of flies."

The Pharaoh responded by announcing to Moses he would grant permission to the Israelites to leave Egypt if the flies were removed. However, after the plague of flies came to an end, the Pharaoh had yet another change of heart and refused to grant permission to the Israelites to leave.

For details, see Exodus 8:20-32.
5. Killing of livestock

The killing of the livestock was the fifth plague unleashed on Egypt. According to Scripture, a "very severe pestilence" hit cattle in the field, as well as horses, donkeys, camels, oxen and sheep.

However, none of the livestock owned by the Israelites were impacted.

Apparently, Egyptian-owned livestock that was in barns and stables were not impacted as the deaths of more animals are reported in future plagues.

Despite the enormous loss, the Pharaoh refused to budge and would not let the Israelites go.

For details about the fifth plague, see Exodus 9:1-7.
6. Plague of boils

The sixth plague was the plague of boils. According to Exodus 9:8-12, the plague resulted in painful boils breaking out on people and animals alike.

Scripture tells of Moses tossing soot from a brick kiln into the air and miraculously the plague of boils was unleashed.

The Pharaoh's heart, however, was hardened and he refused to give permission for the Israelites to leave Egypt.
7. Plague of hail

After the plague of boils came the plague of hail. The hail that fell on Egypt pulverized the nation. The hailstorm caused enormous destruction to crops, trees, and livestock throughout Egypt.

However, the Israelites who lived in Goshen, near the mouth of the Nile River, were not impacted by the plague of hail.

For details, see Exodus 9:13-35.
8. Plague of locusts

After the plague of hail came the plague of locusts. Out of ten plagues to hit Egypt, it was No. 8.

According to Scripture, the locusts "covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every herb of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. So there remained nothing green on the trees or on the plants of the field throughout all the land of Egypt."

Scripture goes on to tell of the Pharaoh seeking forgiveness and telling Moses the Israelites would be free to leave the country once the locusts were removed.

However, after the locusts were removed, the Pharaoh's heart was hardened, causing him to rescind permission to the Israelites to leave.

For details, see Exodus 10:1-20.
9. Plague of darkness

The second last plague unleashed on Egypt was the plague of darkness. According to Scripture, the darkness was extremely thick and lasted for three mind-numbing days.

Exodus 19:22-23 explains things this way: "So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. They did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings."

Despite all the suffering the plague caused, the Pharaoh once again refused to let the Israelites go completely.

For details, see Exodus 10:21-29.
10. Deaths of the firstborn

The tenth and final plague to hit Egypt was the deaths of the firstborn. The deaths not only involved the firstborn child in each household, but also the first born of livestock.

The only people exempted from this tragedy were the Israelites. The event has become known as the Passover, a major celebration for Jews around the world.

Finally, after this plague, and the nine that happened before, the Pharaoh announced the Israelites could leave Egypt and travel to Canaan, the Promised Land.

However, after the Israelites made their exodus out of the country, the Pharaoh ordered the Egyptian army to pursue them.

For details about the tenth plague, see Exodus 11:1-10 and Exodus 12:1-30.
