Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

St. John Chrysostomos, whose name literally means golden mouth, was one of the early Fathers of the church. He was Archbishop of Constantinople and authored at least 600 homilies on various subjects. One of the three eucharistic services of the Eastern Orthodox Church is called the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. This homily is placed at around 400 AD. A homily is delivered during a church service to provide an expansion on the key themes of the day's readings, so it is not surprising that the themes of this homily relate to Easter.

Liberation and Hope: The homily emphasizes that Christ's resurrection has broken the chains of sin and death, offering hope and the possibility of eternal life to all who believe, regardless of their past.

Transformation through Faith: Chrysostom highlights the transforming power of faith in Christ's resurrection, stressing the necessity of not only believing in the event but also applying this belief to one's daily life.

The Necessity of Repentance and Action: The sermon is a call to action, articulating the profound need for conversion, repentance, and a life of righteousness and love, in response to the gift of the Resurrection.

Following the introduction used here, the homily continues by explaining that everyone is welcome to partake in the Holy Communion, because on this day we celebrate the Lord's resurrection and our delivery from the clutches of Satan. Everybody should rejoice, because on this day, the Lord promised eternal life, by descending into hell and defeating death. It uses vivid imagery, compelling narratives, and poetic language to illustrate theological points, making the message accessible and engaging for its listeners.

Some passages from the sermon include "Let none fear death; for death of the Saviour has set us free" and a hymn to Jesus' resurrection, which is the corner stone of the Paschal celebrations:
"Christ is risen! And you, o death, are annihilated!
Christ is risen! And the evil ones are cast down!
Christ is risen! And the angels rejoice!
Christ is risen! And life is liberated!
Christ is risen! And the tomb is emptied of its dead;
for Christ having risen from the dead,
is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep."
