Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which NBA team drafted Allen Iverson?

Answer: Philadelphia 76ers

In 1996, Iverson became the first overall pick for the 76ers. He immediately proved the team correct in their decision in his rookie season, starting 74 games, scoring 23.5 points per game and winning Rookie of the Year honors by an absolute landslide.
2. As a freshman in college, was Iverson named the Big East Rookie of the Year?

Answer: Yes

He led the Hoyas in scoring with a 20.4 average, and 4.5 assists.
3. After his playing days were over, Iverson's first professional team retired his jersey number. What number?

Answer: 3

Iverson wore the #3 for his entire career. He played ten seasons in Philadelphia, and later attempted a comeback in which he played 25 games for the team in the 2009-10 season. In all of this time, he was #3.
4. Allen Iverson didn't just succeed on the court. He proved quite capable in another sport, at least at the high school level. In which HS sport did Iverson win a state championship in?

Answer: Football

Allen Iverson was an absolute stud of an athlete in high school, where he went to Bethel High School in Hampton, Virginia. Here he won the Virginia state championship in both basketball and football. In both sports, he took home the Associated Press High School Player of the Year. Finally, in football, he was the ultimate swiss army knife.

He played quarterback, running back, defensive back and kick returner, contributing in a massive way on all sides of the ball.
5. Allen Iverson was dazzling in just his first season 1996-97, breaking a record set by legendary Wilt Chamberlain in the process. In how many consecutive games did Iverson score 40 or more points in 1997?

Answer: 5

He scored more than 40 points in five consecutive games (Wilt did it for three). What's most stupendous about this ridiculous streak is, the 76ers actually managed to lose all five games which Iverson did this in! Iverson scored 44 points twice in Chicago and Milwaukee, 40 points at home against the Atlanta Hawks, traveled to Cleveland to put up 50 against the Cavs, then returned home to post 40 against the Washington Bullets. Yet, the 76ers lost each and every one of these games, and four of them were double digit defeats too!
6. Allen Iverson was a scoring legend. In how many seasons did he lead the entire NBA in points per game?

Answer: 4

In 1998-99, 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2004-05, Iverson led the league in PPG. In the latter three seasons, he went for over 30 points per game. In the year 2000, he was named league MVP as well.
7. Durability was the main thing holding Allen Iverson back from being considered the single greatest basketball player ever. He only played two full, uninterrupted seasons. Which of these season was one of those two?

Answer: 2007-08

In 2007-08, Iverson spent his second season with the Denver Nuggets. He put together an excellent campaign, securing a bid to the All Star Game and posting 26.4 points per game in the process.
H played 82 games for the 76ers in season 2002-03.
8. In which season did Allen Iverson post his career best points per game?

Answer: 2005

In 2005, with the Philadelphia 76ers, Iverson put up an electric 33 points per game exactly. Interestingly, this wasn't due to volume but, rather, increased efficiency. Iverson's usage was actually slightly reduced overall compared to his 2001 season, where he played slightly more minutes and took slightly more shots. Iverson simply shot the ball better in 2005, with an above average 44.7% shooting from the field.
9. Allen Iverson spent time between four different NBA teams. Which of the following is one of them?

Answer: Detroit Pistons

Iverson made a brief stop in Detroit in 2008, where he played 54 games. This was towards the twilight of his career, so his numbers and overall performance were a shell of his former self. Moreover, he was traded to Detroit and, upon landing, things did not go so smoothly. Head coach Michael Curry moved him to a role coming off the bench, which upset Iverson. This culminated in him being deactivated entirely and not used for the team's playoff series later that season.

2006-2008 : Denver Nuggets
