Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whose birthday was the Walker family celebrating the night William died?

Answer: Kitty's

In the first episode, "Patriarchy", Kitty Walker returned to her childhood home in California for a job interview as well as to celebrate her birthday with her family. After her father William suffered a heart attack that night, she decided to take the job in California and remain at her mother's house indefinitely.
2. When Tommy and Julia were having trouble conceiving, whom did Tommy ask for help first?

Answer: Kevin

Tommy learned that he was infertile, and he and Julia had been trying to choose a sperm donor. Tommy didn't like the idea of using just anybody's sperm to conceive his child, and he asked his brother Kevin to help them out. Kevin was reluctant, so Justin volunteered.

However, Tommy had been mad at Justin for not getting his life together, and told Justin that he didn't want him to father his child. At the end of the episode, "Northern Exposure", the brothers had worked things out, and both Kevin and Justin agreed to donate sperm for Tommy and Julia. Julia became pregnant, but it was not revealed which of the brothers fathered the child.
3. At which of these places did Justin work in the first season?

Answer: hotel

Justin got a job as a bell boy at a hotel, where he worked for a female boss, Tyler. He had known Tyler in high school, and they began seeing each other shortly after he got hired. She was sympathetic to his drug problems, not firing him after he got high at work, but she did fire him after he cheated on her.

When she found out later that he had been upset that day because the army recalled him to go to Iraq, she forgave him and they got back together for a short while.
4. Sarah's daughter, Paige, had a school event in which she had to represent what U.S. state?

Answer: Hawaii

In the episode "An Act of Will", Sarah was having trouble balancing being a mother and being the new CEO of her father's company, Ojai Foods. She forgot to buy a grass skirt for Paige, but promised she would get it that day. By the time she remembered, the store was closed. Sarah pleaded with an employee, who let her in and helped her look for a grass skirt, but they were sold out. Sarah had a mini-breakdown in the store, and decided to buy a couple of leis instead.

When she returned home, she found that Joe had already taken care of Paige's costume and taught her a song to sing.
5. What was the password to William's secret bank account?

Answer: sktkjr

With the help of a forensic accountant, Sarah and Saul were able to find a bank account belonging to William that might have accounted for the missing money from the Ojai pension fund. It was password protected, though, and none of the members of the Walker family could crack the password.

However, Saul let the cat out of the bag and told Sarah that William's mistress Holly had a daughter. Sarah confronted Holly, and Holly denied that William was Rebecca's father. However, when Sarah was working on figuring out the password to the account, she added Rebecca's name to the rest of the Walker children and that worked in opening the account - SKTKJR, for Sarah, Kitty, Tommy, Kevin, Justin and Rebecca.
6. Which 'chair' was Kitty's on her television show?

Answer: the red one

The interview that Kitty had originally returned to California for was for a political television show "Red, White and Blue". Kitty was the red chair, the Republican position. Warren was the blue chair, or the Democrat perspective. The white chair belonged to the show's host and moderator, Whit.

After Kitty interviewed Senator McCallister and he offered her a job at his office, Kitty left the television show.
7. Which of the Walker siblings has medical training?

Answer: Justin

Justin was trained as a medic when he was in the army, and treated wounded soldiers in Afghanistan. He was recalled to Iraq because the army was in dire need of medics. He showed his medical training at home too. At first, he was the only one who was able to give Paige her insulin shots, and then he helped Sarah learn how by letting her practice on himself.

He also helped out when Julia went into labour at the vineyard.
8. What was the theme of Nora's birthday party?

Answer: medieval times

In the episode "Something Ida This Way Comes", Sarah had hired a party planning company to help set up for Nora's 60th birthday party. She thought she had ordered the "mid-level package", but there was no such thing - it was the 'medieval package'. So, the staff helping out at Nora's birthday were dressed in medieval clothing, and they decorated the house to look like a medieval castle.

The episode's title refers to Nora's mother, who came to the party and drove Nora crazy.
9. What was the title and name of Senator McCallister's rambunctious uncle?

Answer: Major Weiner

In the final episode of the season, "Matriarchy", Nora organized an engagement party for Kitty and the Senator. She invited several members of his family, but came to regret it - they were an even more crazy bunch than the Walkers! They drank excessively, formed a conga line, and broke a lot of stuff. One of the Senator's relatives, his uncle, was called Major Weiner. Nora kept pronouncing it as "wee-ner", when it was actually "whiner".

As Nora said, she wasn't sure which was worse!
10. What did Tommy and Julia name their baby daughter?

Answer: Elizabeth

Julia had been pregnant with twins, a girl and a boy. They had already decided on the boy's name - William. However, the twins were born prematurely and baby William was not doing well. In the episode "Favorite Son", little William needed a kidney transplant and the only possible matching donor present was his twin sister, Elizabeth. Julia and Tommy decided not to risk the lives of both babies, but before they could even tell the doctor their decision, William died.
