Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The race's first Detour took place in what famous market?

Answer: Chandni Chowk

The race's first leg started the teams off in Delhi, India, and after racing off to the Royal Palace Hotel, teams could choose between two tough tasks taking them through Chandni Chowk. For 'Chicken Dish', racers could go on a shopping trip, collecting ingredients to make the perfect butter chicken sauce for a local restaurant.

In 'Wedding Wish', however, teams instead had to locate mannequins in the market streets, then purchase all of the clothing and accessories to match the examples to pose in a photograph.

The challenge was split fairly even with six completing the former and five completing the latter due to an unaired, but mandatory division.
2. Which Detour task encountered by teams in Agra, India (in Leg 2) had teams dealing with manure?

Answer: 'Make It Stick'

Racers headed to Agra in the second leg of the race to engage with one of two laborious tasks for their Detour. In 'Make It Slick', racers needed to do some laundry in the Yamuna River, cleaning a bag of clothes in a barrel of sudsy water and then smacking the clothes against rocks to get the soap out. Once the clothes were hung to dry, they could keep racing.

In 'Make It Stick', teams instead made cow patties for fuel, combining manure with hay and water, forming the patties, and sticking them to a wall. If they could get all sixty-four done, they could keep get their next clue.
3. Only three teams chose to complete the 'Stripe It' Detour task, painting Puli Kali dancers in Kochi in Leg 3. Who was not amongst them?

Answer: George and Pam

Racers flew to Kochi in the State of Kerala, India in Leg 3, and their Detour was a choice between the detail-oriented and the physical. With 'Stripe It', teams joined the Puli Kali belly dancers, working to paint the dancers' bellies with their unique tiger designs.

In 'Strike It', teams instead headed to the grounds at Maharaja's College Stadium to learn kuttiyum kolum, striking a stick and measuring their distances until they had enough ground covered to get their next clue.
4. No matter which Detour option racers chose in Leg 4 (in Langkawi, Malaysia), racers had to use which of these to reach the task?

Answer: Jetski

The tropical paradise of Langkawi played host to nine teams in Leg 4, allowing them to choose between one of two tasks for their Detour that sent them jetskiing to one of the beautiful shores of the island. In 'Eagle Eye', racers paraglided over Datai Bay searching for a piece of eagle artwork on the water, using it to identify a souvenir at a local shop to get their next clue while in 'Mai Tai', racers delivered mai tais to vacationers on an anchored boat, doing so on stand-up paddleboards. Five teams headed to the latter task while four went for the former.
5. Ben and Jackie were eliminated in Leg 5, partly because they got stuck on which Detour option in George Town, Malaysia?

Answer: 'Piles of Tiles'

Though racers dove straight into more tasks in Langkawi in Leg 5, they eventually had to take a flight along the coast to George Town to complete the leg, wrapping up their day with a choice between Detour tasks in the market streets. 'Burn Your Boat' appeared to be the quicker option, leading teams to a temple to make five paper boats from joss paper, burning them as good luck offerings. 'Piles of Tiles', however, had teams sorting through numerous mahjong tiles to form a full set of one hundred forty four.
6. One Detour task in Leg 6 (in George Town, Malaysia) had teams working with desserts. The other had them eating which local dish?

Answer: Sup torpedo

Racers encountered the rare limited station Detour in Leg 6 and only four teams could complete either 'Treats' or 'Eats' per what was available to them. While 'Treats' (selected by all the earlier teams) allowed racers to replicate a Malay koay dessert platter, 'Eats' had them eating a traditional soup, sup torpedo, containing bull tongue and penis. Racers completing the latter task had to consume all provided components to keep racing.

The true irony was that it was their choice from the get-go, but anyone with a stomach of steel could get through quickly.
7. Both Detour options in Leg 7 took place at which Asian landmark?

Answer: Angkor Wat

Racers had to decide to 'Protect Your House' or 'Protect Your Empire' in Leg 7, both of which had teams completing detail-oriented tasks around Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia. For the former, the teams had to find an example of a spirit house and, walking a kilometre through the complex to another pagoda, replicate the ornamentation exactly to get their next clue.

The latter had teams hustling to learn four distinct techniques from local martial artists. If both team members could demonstrate the proper bokator moves in the correct order, they'd get their next clue. Teams were split down the middle with the three all-women teams protecting their house and the remaining teams protecting their empire.
8. Between the 'Fish' and 'Farm' Detour options in Leg 8 (which had teams on Tonlé Sap), all racers needed to work with fish in some way.

Answer: False

The 'Fish' Detour option, of course, had the teams handling sea creatures. Heading out in a canoe, racers needed to harvest shrimp from traps laid in one of the Tonlé Sap floating villages. If they could collect enough shrimp to fill a glass they could trade it for a clue. Racers who went to 'Farm' instead needed to plant an herb garden on a floating plot of soil, properly setting up the plants and labeling them to the approval of the local farmers.
9. In Leg 9, teams joined the circus in Siem Reap, Cambodia. There they could either 'Start the Giggles' or 'Stop the...' what?

Answer: Wobbles

Racers had to take on one of two tough circus-themed tasks in Leg 9, joining the Cambodian Phare performers in either 'Start the Giggles' or 'Stop the Wobbles', both of which would perform their dexterity in some way or another. 'Start the Giggles' had them performing a slapstick routine, working to coordinate a series of moves set to music to wow a pair of clown judges.

This was done by Emma and Hayley and Darren and Tristan. 'Stop the Wobbles', on the other hand, had them performing a balancing act, staying atop a narrow cylinder in bare feet for at least a minute each. Harry and Teddy, Alli and Angie, and Jana and Cor finished this.
10. Teams evenly split themselves between Detour options in Borneo in Leg 10. Which task had them using glue?

Answer: 'Save the Reef'

Conservation was the name of the game when teams reached the jetty at the Gaya Island Resort Marine Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia in Leg 10, and they had to choose whether they wanted to 'Save the Mangroves' or 'Save the Reef', both of which would have them making efforts to restore Borneo's natural beauty. Harry and Teddy and Emma and Hayley hopped into kayaks and headed into the mangrove forests for the former, collecting seeds and returning them to a nursery to be planted. Darren and Tristan and Alli and Angie, meanwhile, learned how to restore dead coral, properly combining washed-up pieces of coral on the beach, adding nubbins of live coral to them, and placing them back into the sea.
