Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Racers were sent to Cambodia at the start of Leg 7, arriving in Siem Reap and being told to head to what famous temple complex?

Answer: Angkor Wat

Leaving Malaysia, six teams were flown from Penang, Malaysia to Siem Reap and departed from the airport in the order they arrived at the sixth Pit Stop. Touching down, racers were given a clue sending them by cycle-rickshaw to the Chum Theany Angkor Souvenir Shop where they would be told to head to Angkor Wat, the largest temple complex in Southeast Asia. Once there, racers would have to search the grounds for an offering that they could give to a monk watching from one of the temple's highest points.

He'd give them a blessing and their next clue.
2. Which team did not complete the 'Protect Your House' Detour task in Cambodia in Leg 7?

Answer: Jana and Cor

Handing the care package off to the correct monk meant racers could get their Detour clue, and the first of their possible options was 'Protect Your House'. Racers headed to this task had to make their way to the Preah Ang Kmao Pagoda where they would be able to find an example of a spirit house, a small shrine for local gods. With this example, racers had to replicate the spirit house at a distant station one kilometre away. Getting it right would get them their next clue. Alli and Angie, Bec and Kate, and Emma and Hayley completed this task.
3. Racers completing the 'Protect Your Empire' Detour option in Leg 7 (in Cambodia) had teams learning bokator. Which of these was not one of the moves they learned?

Answer: Bash your head

Racers who chose the 'Protect Your Empire' Detour task could rely less on an eye for detail by putting their bodies to use. Heading to the Bayon Temple, racers completing this task had to learn bokator, a Cambodian martial art and one of the world's oldest fighting techniques, with local practicers. If racers could memorize a demonstration and properly execute four different moves in succession, they'd be given their next clue as a reward.

The fun names of the techniques, in order, were 'rip out your liver', 'break your leg', 'rip out your throat', and 'frog on the back'. Jana and Cor, Darren and Tristan, and Harry and Teddy went for this task.
4. Did any teams take a penalty during the spider-eating Road Block in Leg 7?

Answer: Yes

Racers headed to the Asana Old Wooden House after the Detour and were confronted with a difficult eating task for their Road Block as, this time, the selected teammate had to consume a local delicacy: three fried tarantulas and a four smaller bowls of spiders, grubs, and assorted bugs.

Although prompted simply with 'who's good in the kitchen', the task forced Angie, Hayley, Tristan, Jana, Teddy, and Kate to contend with their taste buds and their stomachs. Clearing their table would clear them for the clue. Bec and Kate elected to skip the task, taking a penalty at the Pit Stop.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 7, checking in at the Pit Stop mat at Wat Damnak in last place?

Answer: Bec and Kate

Despite the Detour mixing up teams' standings and the Road Block truly testing the racers' fortitudes, racers made it on foot to the Pit Stop to check in, meeting Beau at Wat Damnak in an effort to avoid elimination. Darren and Tristan left the Road Block earliest and won the sprint to the mat against Alli and Angie, making it their fourth win of the race.

Although Harry and Teddy arrived at the Pit Stop sixth, Bec and Kate's sixty minute time penalty dropped the sisters from third to last, eliminating them from the race with five minutes left on the clock.
6. Visiting a rural school in Leg 8, racers had to learn the song "Old McDonald Had a Farm", but in which language commonly heard on the shores of Tonlé Sap?

Answer: Khmer

Between Legs 7 and 8, racers were transported from their Pit Stop near Angkor Wat to a spot much closer to the massive Southeast Asian lake known as Tonlé Sap where, ripping open their clues, they were told to travel to the nearby Ponloeu Angkor Bookstore.

There, teams would be able to purchase school supplies that they could deliver by boat to the floating primary school at Chong Khneas, one of Cambodia's floating villages. Before they could get their next clue, racers would need to join the school kids, learning a rendition of "Old McDonald Had a Farm" in the local language of Khmer and performing it for the class.
7. Racers completing the 'Fish' Detour in Leg 8 had to collect which of these in Tonlé Sap?

Answer: Shrimp

Racers headed out from the floating school with a Detour clue and with that they had a choice sending them deeper into the community. Racers who completed 'Fish' needed to join the local workforce, collecting shrimp from meticulously-laid traps along stretches of the floating village. Taking a paddleboat out into the water they needed to collect enough shrimp to fill a single disposable cup, providing it to a fishermen to get their next clue. Three of the five racing teams went for this challenge.
8. Two teams completed the 'Farm' Detour task, planting a garden on Tonlé Sap in Leg 8. Which of these was one of them?

Answer: Harry and Teddy

Racers who wanted to get their hands dirty could take the 'Farm' Detour option instead, hopping onto a floating garden and planting all of their provided greens on the small plot given to them. Once teams properly planted the garden, they would need to use labels to properly identify everything they'd worked with, and only then would they be able to keep racing. Jana and Cor and Harry and Teddy completed this task.
9. Which racer completed the rice-making Road Block in Leg 8?

Answer: Cor

For their final task of Leg 8, racers needed to get back onto solid land, taking a boat back to the shores of Tonlé Sap for their Road Block, and for this one they needed to choose a team member who was 'ready to go against the grain'. In this task, Emma, Alli, Darren, Cor, and Harry had to use a local technique to hull and sift through fresh jasmine rice. To do this, they had to start by pounding grain with a mortar and pestle, separating the inner rice from its husk and then tossing it in a bamboo sieve to sift the components apart. Once they had a cup ready to go, they could get their last clue.
10. Leg 8 proved to feature a non-elimination Pit Stop, but were teams told to keep on racing when they stepped on the mat?

Answer: No

After the Road Block teams needed to grab their bags and proceed on foot to their eighth Pit Stop waiting out in the rice paddy adjacent to the rice task. Teams could follow the paths and step on the mat (provided they could find their way) and collect their placement. Emma and Hayley excelled in the leg, stepping on the mat in first to win a luxury hotel stay at the Pit Stop.

It would be their second win of the race, having won the second leg as well (back in Agra, India). Although Harry and Teddy stepped on the mat last, only moments behind Darren and Tristan, no one was eliminated in this leg. Harry and Teddy were informed that they would have to face a Speed Bump, but they would do so in Leg 9.
