This is where the episode's title plays in - Fred C. Dobbs (Humphrey Bogart) was a greedy character who goes crazy in his search for gold in the 1948 movie "The Treasure of Sierra Madre".

Frank brings Margaret out where he had found a rock the surgeons had painted gold, but when they get there, they find all the rocks painted gold. Margaret sees right through the ruse, but Frank is mad with gold fever and thinks they are real gold. Then they see Radar leading a donkey with gold-painted prospecting tools, the surgeons drive by in a Jeep painted gold and an announcement is made on a gold-colored PA speaker.

When Frank realizes he's been had, it's too late. He previously requested that his transfer be rescinded - permanently.
