Beulah Jackson is one of the first people Beth meets when she, Rip, and Carter move to Rio Paloma, Texas. In episode 3, Rip and Beth discover that one of their calves is sick, and their friend, veterinarian Everett, diagnoses it with hoof-and-mouth disease. The entire herd needed to be destroyed, which Rip did in episode 4. Beth later found out that a cattle broker sold them a sick bull using a forged clean bill of sale, although it was unclear if they ended up with the bull on purpose or by accident. With the entire herd gone, Rip and Beth had a tough decision to make.

They go to work for Beulah, with Rip becoming her ranch foreman, and Beth becoming a business consultant. Rip fell into the job easily, after having been the foreman on the much larger Yellowstone for years. Beth had been toying with the idea of marketing Yellowstone beef before her father's death, and was able to convince Beulah that a similar venture with a bespoke beef brand would be profitable. The canny Beth hoped to find a way to make a living, get even with Beulah if she had been involved in the sale of the sick bull, and learn some of Beulah's well-kept secrets for later exploitation.

Rob-Will is Oreana's father and Beulah's biological son. In episode 7, it was revealed that his father had raped Beulah, and she shot him when she found out that she was pregnant. Rob-Will was a troublemaker with no discernible talents. Beulah hoped that his third trip to rehab would be the charm.

Beulah's adopted son is Joaquin, who has lived on her ranch as long as he can remember. He was Beulah's "good son", her lawyer and the family fixer, until she announced her retirement and put Rob-Will in charge. Upset and frustrated, he called his father, Mariano, in Mexico, who at one time had been employed by Beulah's father to be her bodyguard.

Joaquin's father is revealed to be El Padrino, the Godfather, and the head of a powerful crime organization in Mexico. He has controlled Beulah and the ranch for at least fifteen years; Beulah said that she agreed to his plan during some lean years and could never get out from under his thumb.

Ed Padrino is the head of a drug cartel that has been smuggling fentanyl across the U.S. border inside of cattle. Rip and Beth found 3.5 kilograms of fentanyl worth about 2 million dollars sewn into some of the cattle in a recent shipment. They returned the drugs to Beulah, but it was too late. Ed Padrino targeted them for death.

When the attack on the Dutton Ranch is not successful, another plan is revealed. Beth and Rip's adopted son, Carter, was kidnapped. Beth received a call and was told, "I have your boy". Realizing that El Padrino really wanted them, not Carter, Beth and Rip began to plan their next move.
