Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

If you can recall, at the end of "Yellowstone" (season 5/episode 14) Beth Dutton buried her father, John, and promptly killed her adopted brother, Jamie, in order to seek revenge for John's death. John's enforcer and Beth's husband, Rip Wheeler, took Jamie's body to the train station, the Yellowstone Ranch was sold, and Beth purchased a small ranch in Dillon, Montana - far away from the Yellowstone - where she, Rip, and Carter, an orphan they had taken in as family, could experience a new beginning. Life there was shown to be idyllic, quiet, and happy for all until a fire sparked by lightning burned down the entire ranch.

The small family could either rebuild or relocate. One of the Yellowstone cowboys, Walker, was from Texas, and told Rip about a smaller ranch, the Edwards Ranch, that was for sale. A scene in season 1/episode 2 showed Carter, Beth, and Rip looking at the ranch with its former owner, who wanted an honest buyer to carry on her family's tradition in the area. The ranch came with 5,000 acres and 175 Black Angus cattle; the owner's only stipulation was that Rip and Beth had to keep on her ranch hand.

So Rip, Beth, and Carter moved to Rio Paloma, Texas, which was described as being located in south Texas, about an hour away from the Mexican border. Rio Paloma is a fictional place, however, and much of the show was filmed around Ferris, Texas. It was quite different from Montana. Much of the terrain was scrubland and rocky prairie, and it was hot. Rip commented that he was really missing the mountains in Montana.

While Beth and Rip originally fell into their new world rather seamlessly - same job, different location - it was not such an easy transition for Carter. Carter always stayed and worked on the Yellowstone; he was a runaway and was never legally adopted in Montana. Now he apparently had to go to school, where he was the new kid and older than most other high school students. It was painful to watch how the others treated him, and one had to wonder if he would be able to make friends with the right people.

In typical Beth fashion, she made an enemy early on with the matriarch of the largest cattle operation in the area, the owner of the 10 Petal Ranch and 10 Petal Meats, Beulah Jackson. Beth wanted to sell some cattle for meat processing to potentially begin a Dutton Ranch side business, but declined the unfair arrangement that Jackson offered. Had Beth already made an enemy? Yes! And Jackson already had hard feelings since she had been trying unsuccessfully for years to buy the Edwards Ranch. Beth needed to find a slaughterhouse to process the Dutton Ranch Angus beef. Perhaps her new friend, a veterinarian named Everett, would be able to help her find the right butcher, and help her learn how to fit in with the people at Rio Paloma.

And what about Rip? He found a dead body on his ranch; someone was obviously the victim of a murder. Instead of notifying the law, Rip, who lacked even a birth certificate, located a new train station, an abandoned mine, and took it upon himself to dispose of the body in an attempt to stay under the radar.

The incorrect choices, very important in the "Yellowstone" series, were completely missing on the first two episodes of "Dutton Ranch".
